I'd be quite positive if that is the Ulster intake. A few noticeable omissions, but probably still a more talented bunch than previous years.

If Reid is quitting then there's nothing Ulster can really do. Shocked at O'Donnell, but I think he's u18 so he still has a year to prove himself. Don't think Ireland will play him in the u19s a year young at the expense of Patterson.

Is finnegan not a good shout for the academy?

What other scrum halves are in the Ulster Academy? Stewart obviously, anyone else? Maybe it's one player per position?

I think it's just Stewart. There was someone from England being looked at, but I'm not sure.

My mistake about O'Donnell. Either Campbell has noticed something about him that we haven't, or there's an even better scrum half coming through that nobody knows about. Certainly from what I've seen of Stewart in the u20s, we could do with someone else in the academy. Are we sure that he wants to play rugby next year?

I believe O'Donnell's pass is the line being trotted out as the reason as to why he isn't in the academy but there may be a clash of personalities there. Aaron Cairns already in academy as a 9/wing.

Angus Curtis already part of the academy set up but injured himself in his first game when he arrived in the New Year, I believe another Irish qualified South African back rower arrived with him but nothing in press to confirm about joining academy/sub academy.

Not surprised Reid has no interest of professional rugby, hopefully continues to play the club game.

A big worry that Ulster are putting so much faith in the Under 19 bunch, a talented group but will be a rude awakening when they go to play A team matches. Bar a few backs it is hard to pick out any players who the ulster academy have made better, a number of Ireland Under 20 internationals who never kicked on, yet in other provinces they seem likely to improve and break through.

Stewart is pretty solid. I don't mind that too much. If he can do the basics well then you have something to work with.

Playing a year young too... in probably the hardest position to do so from a decision making point of view and in terms of being under the spotlight continously.
