Having an issue over the last few days where some channels are displaying a message saying:

"Your Sky+HD box isn't getting a satellite signal."

On the channels were this is shown if I go to the settings menu, it says input 1 signal Strength/Quality at 0 and Lock indicator as Not Locked. The input 2 seems fine. If I go to a channel which is not displaying the message, input 1's signal strenght and quality is better but not near full like input 2 is.

I have tried the troubleshoot guide on the sky website and have had no luck getting it to work. I'm wondering if there is a way to narrow down if it is a cable, box or dish issue? If I need to have it repaired do I need to go to Sky to organise a repair or could a local tv repair man sort it out? I'm well out of any contract with Sky by now.

Couple of things you could try as it seems like a cable / connection issue.

    1. Check the cable connections at the rear of the box - make sure they're not loose.
    2. Swap the cables around to see what if any difference that makes to the signal quality / strength.
    3. Take you box to a friend or neighbour and connect it there just to rule out that the box isnt faulty.
    4. Borrow another working Sky+HD box and connect to your own cables and check.

Could be an issue with the connections at the dish or indeed the dish has moved slightly but that is unlikely as both feeds would be out.

Contact Sky on their talk to forum and if you've been a customer for a couple of years they will send an engineer out either free or at a reduced fee. Post up your query and then send a PM to Sky Reps with your name, phone number and time for them to call you. You will probably have to argue a bit to get a deal on the engineer visit but depending on how long you have been a customer will dictate what fee if any they will charge for the engineer visit.

I have tried tightening all connections and all was good. Although 1 of the copper wires looks a little bent near the top, I think it may have been damaged when I was having some plastering work done. I'm going to clip it back a small bit and replace the connectors and see if it makes any difference. If not I'll get a loan of another box and go from there. Thanks.
