How long does it take for a cow to make colostrum after weaning?

its related to calving rather than weaning with colostrum started to be made about a month before calving. i'm not sure what impact it would have if she was still being milked

    Thanks.
Daisy (the only cow on the farm) was AI'd in June last year. TBH I totally forgot about her calving date and only weaned her bull calf off her today - my bad

get a precalver mineral into her and hope the calf stays in the oven for 3 weeks

    Thanks ganmo.
TBH I'm kicking myself (and OH a lot harder ;)) for neglecting her calving date. Jaysus she is the only cow in the herd and you'd think between both of us we'd know better

Yetest is not 100% reliable. Although looking at the positive ones this evening most of them I would say are positives, I have a few of them out on once a day milking to build up condition score.
Just checked there, one of the positives is a 3rd calver, this would be her 3rd time being blooded for Johnes and this is the first time she came up positive, seems to be extremely hard to know when/how to test them

If you can't trust the result when it's negative, can you trust it when it's positive?

You'd have a fair idea if she has it, they wont be performing as good as the rest of them

Just had a visit here from a coilte man delivering 'keep dogs on leads' signs, dad was chatting to him out the front, I was heading out the back when I spot a dog in the field at the back of the house it comes up to me so I grab its collar and bring it back to the house to call the warden...turns out it was yer mans dog who was delivering the dogs on lead signs....PLANK!!!

He's lucky to be getting the dog back

The farm account gets a top up, not me being paid! Ya that's belonging to the guy that buys off us, he traps badgers for the dept. Very handy fella to be friends with if there's badger activity to be seen!

New school after beung built up the road, there are 2 disabled parking spots. The principal and the vice principal park in them everyday, neither have a disabled drivers permit. My sister who does have a disabled parking permit took it on her self to take photos on her phone every day this week of the 2 cars in the disabled spots. Today she got a letter from the school that she had broken privacy rules of the school by taking the photos while on the school property wtf :eek:

Sure you wouldn't believe the zoom on camera phones these days....wasn't your sister outside the school wall taking the photo ;)

She saw her stepping inside the school gate to take the photo. At a recent funeral here there was a car parked in the disabled spot outside the church, a permitted driver needed the parking spot and the reg of the car was read out from the altar, school principal from another local school had to sheepishly walk down the aisle and move her car :)

Write a letter to board of management requesting a 3rd permitted parking space, as the other 2 seem to be required for staff parking.

She runs the board of management, is the principal and has her say on the parents council, closed shop there, her way or the highway:mad:

Would love to get the cars clamped , but we both have kids in the school

Get someone else to take the pictures this time from outside school property (now that you know the rules).
That is if they are still parking in them now.:P

    Problem solved.:)

I would second the writing of a letter to the board of management asking for more spaces...

Re the photo - I know your sister was taking a photo of the cars, but I'm ok with the school sending a letter re taking pics on school grounds...

I would be more concerned if they saw someone taking pics and didn't take act rather than the disabled spaces to be honest...

The photos were taken before the kids came out from school so no children are in any of the photos. My sister doesnt need the disabled spot at the minute, but if another disabled driver came in there's no disabled spot for them

I know, and I agree with you, they should not be parking there...

But your sister, nor should anyone be taking pics inside school grounds...

Two wrongs doesn't make a right...

I still would go the board of management route, keep going with the letters. Push for additional spaces, say you have no problem taking the issue higher for them, if they would like...

Traffic wardens always take a photo of the vehicle when they ticket it.
Would she have a defence against this too?

You'd imagine the ticket warden wouldn't go onto school grounds to take the pic...

Would a traffic warden go to a school like that? Or are they only allocated certain areas? Like a specific town or the likes?
