Do you know did they root it? Is android pay still working? Where did you go and how much did it cost you?

The phone was not rooted. I think that unlocking code was generated via the box they use and nothing else has been done.
I restored factory defaults twice on this phone and everything works, no issues.

Anybody know any Chinese phone shops in Dublin that would unlock this?

Was just in Tesco and see they have the plus version of this phone on their network for €300... Don't see much difference from looking at it...

Anyone getting a case or know of any good cases?.. Is Matrix cases worth getting?...

I think they must have made a mistake, as far as I know there's just an Idol 4, and an Idol 4S.

The S has a better 1440P screen and much better GPU so it would be more ideal for VR.

I assume it has to be the Idol 4S for 300, they're hardly charging that for the Idol 4 which is €200 on other networks (including 3 usually).

I left the phone for about 1 hr

Thanks OP, ordered an Idol4 today with 3. Was thinking of the MotoG4+ but at over twice the price couldn't pass up on the Idol4 plus the MotoG4 is supposed to have serious issues after a fireware upgrade was rolled out.

Yeah the 4S got confused since I was originally supposed to be buying the G4 Plus 😛

That would be more suited question for the G4 thread which should be easy to find as more people would know the issue there after buying

He could link to the thread where they are discussed. Hard to have an informed opinion if people make comments then don't back them up.

Has anyone the actel unlocked in Dublin?

2nd day using the idol 4. Great phone for the price.

I'm coming from a one plus one so main letdown of being the camera so far.

    Bargain for 100 euro

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,457 ✭✭✭✭beauf

Any detailed thoughts on the camera.

The G4 one is ok, can be really good but is inconsistent. G4Plus is more consistent.

Sorry it was second hand info I received and upon further investigation unjustified. Problem was with the Moto2G which after a Moto approved Android upgrade to 6.0 killed the phone with unresponsive system and apps.

I've been impressed so far. It's brilliant in standby. I think it dropped 4% overnight whereas my one plus one would have burned through it.

I find it OK. I wouldn't say terrible even though a lot of reviews implied it's very sub-standard. It's not brilliant but it gets through the day just fine, it's not a deal breaker for me as I charge my phone every night in any case. I switched from a P9 Lite and to be honest there's nothing between them apart from the battery (P9 Lite is a lot better). It's an absolute steal for €99 even excluding the fact it comes with a VR headset and a set of JBL earphones.

Thanks ,that's interesting as I was on the eye out for a deal on the P9 Lite as I have the P8 Lite.
I find the P8 Lite a good phone but the battery life is very poor .
P9 Lite looks very nice ,but its not reducing in price so I might get the Alcatel if I can get it unlocked cheaply.

Edit:Says sold out Online ,try instore

This is terribly slow to charge over USB.

The USB I'm using is a short Anker cable that could fast charge a oneplus one

Any idea how I can speed this up?

    Something about sandwiches

Just an FYI, I got this unlocked over the weekend in one of those phone unlocking shops. Cost 20 euro and took an hour.
Would love to find a way to get it de-branded though.

    I could be wrong....

From a quick google it seems the oneplus only fast charges using its own charger or compatible.

The One Plus 3 seems the same.

It also seems the phone doesn't support the Qualcomm Quick Charging standard. The chipset supports it, but its not implemented for the oneplus one.

For the Alcatel Idol 4 VR Edition to get Qualcomm Quick Charging you'll need a Qualcomm Quick Charge compatible charger, and a cable that supports data and power. (Not a charging only cable) because the phone needs to "talk" to the charger. I use a Aukey charger with my G4 and it charges the 3000mA battery in about an hour. I expect the Alcatel Idol 4 VR Edition will be about 45 mins with its smaller battery.

Looks like it won't fast charge off the laptop with the alcatel cable either meaning it need to be plugged into the AC.

    A bit disappointed with that!

Do some phones quick charge off a laptop? First I've heard of that.
