What do you think of the idea of Cork village being the nation's capital?

Many from there feel it would be a worthy capital. They call it "the real capital", "the REAL capital" no less.

What does Cork have to offer in an administrative regard?

Corkonians talk a good game. Sell yourselves to us. Tell us why?

    I'm not feeling it.

Maybe others (other than Cork people) feel different.

It's in the backhole of Ireland. Heck, making G-G-G-Galway the capital makes more sense!

Do you just sit there hitting F5 on AH waiting to make the first witty comment on each new thread?

You sound trivially annoyed about something, there is a thread for that you know.

Only people from Cork call it the real capital. It's tedious nonsense really.

It's gotta be either east or west coast. You try making an 'S' gang-sign with your fingers & you'll end up with early onset arthritis. Represent!

Have only ever heard it in Dublin. Have never heard it from a Cork person. Tedious nonsense indeed!

Knock has an international airport and Jesus' mother goes there on her holidays.

    I vote Knock.

I think Nurney in Kildare should be the capital. A post office, church and pub. Very representative I feel. And it has a funny name.

We could build a new capital city like Canberra, Washington, or Brasilia.
    How about Culchieopolis, Tractoropilis, Bugredgeryaaa?

    Fewer!

Though kind of to be expected, seeing as Dublin has about 4 times the population.

They should move the Cork county capital to Fermoy, or Mallow, or Youghal...

Would it be a capital for the whole country? They'd have to build it on an overcrowded site in Dublin city, then.

Dubs in particular seem to be obsessed with the Cork is the real capital thing. As a Corkonian I rarely hear it down here, and when it is mentioned it's to take the piss out of the Dubs who get very worked up over it for some reason.

That chord progression would work better with a D minor.

Candidates for a new capital in my mind would be Limerick or Waterford - both underperforming and needing a boost.

The other option would be a new city in the Midlands - the hill of Uisneach is traditionally the center of the island. Drop the new city between Athlone, Mullingar and Tullamore.

Build all new hospital centers of excellence there and the land would be very cheap.

Reopen the Athlone to Mullingar railway for quick access to the center of Dublin.

Edit: We could name the new city An Lár.

Not a hope.moved back to Cork from Dublin recently and it just wouldn't make any sense.the state of the roads and general public transport in Cork it seems blatently obvious that the city has been left fend for itself financially.there needs to be a serious diversion of funds away from the capital to the smaller cities if this country is to grow properly.

Actually no one in Cork ever says it, people outside of Cork say we say it all the time though.

The roads of Cork with the exception of that one road leading to Dublin are amongst the worst in Ireland. Drove to Donegal last summer up through the centre and down through the west and couldnt get over how much better the road network is. Havent used the bus service regularly in years but remember always going an hour early of 2pm shifts in a city centre hotel as the bus seemed to take a lunch break despite the timetable you cant rely on it at all.
