    So AMD are **** again.

Bugger hoped it would kickstart a CPU war.

Finding one is challenging enough. When you do, they're still selling for €300+

The concept of discounts is alien in the Nintendo world. A good discount is €2 off a €50 game made 7 years ago :D

    (exaggeration.... but not far off)

There's always http://cemu.info/ Although I don't know if the game you're wanting to play is stable on it. But if you're already willing to buy the game might as well see if it'll run on this before buying the console to go with it :P

It still will generally as they're excellent productivity processors, half the price of Intel for the same performance.

Gaming however, like the FX (relatively speaking, obviously is light years ahead of those), is at this point in time is considerably inferior to Intel, even when pairing the €500 flagship R7 1800X to the €350 i7-7700, and sometimes the €250 i5-7600K.

It may be bugs that can be ironed out, maybe not, but I wouldn't be in any rush to buy one if I was a gamer, and ditching existing Intel Haswell/Broadwell/Skylake setups now in favour of a system upgrade to Ryzen is definitely out the window for gamers.

Will see what the next few months bring.

I had big hopes, but looks like we are back to square one. It still shook intel a bit, which was good. Looks like no ryzen upgrade this year and another year with 2500k. Please vega be at least decent..

Ugh, with the 1080 getting a price cut and its effect on 1070 pricing yet to be seen, holding off my full rebuild for Vega is becoming increasingly difficult. With a Q2 release still on the cards I was hoping AMD would even hint at a narrower date during their GDC talk. :(

So tempted to get the Switch. The reviews of Zelda are really something, and it would probably get more use than the PS4 at the moment. Nothing coming out on that that interests me (not that Last Guardian and Uncharted 4 are gone).

Horizon Zero Dawn is meant to be good. I'll get it down the road.

So with Shovel Knight Treasure Trove coming to Switch, I was wondering could someone explain the different versions on PC?
Like I thought I saw somewhere that if you owned the original, which is less than a tenner on GOG, you got the others for free?

yup was looking for a reason to support amd but ill be sticking with my 6700k, unless the crappy gaming performance is down to bugs that get ironed out.

confusing thing is in all synthetic benchmarks the r7 is a multithreaded monster and is on par with 6900k in singlethreaded, just doesnt translate to games for some weird reason

    Drivers(for a CPU WTF) , patches, optimizations.....may help.

I have a 5960X that I paid maybe 500 more than its worth because AMD are **** and offer no competition to Intel so they can price accordingly.

I am probably about 2-3 years away from a new CPU and I hoped AMD would at least offer some competition so my next choice would be cheaper and the market would get a kick in the hole.

I'm not sure I understand your complaint?
AMD are now offering performance equal to Intel, at a lower cost - so they're shít?

its the general response to amd people want amd stuff to be 100x better then intel before they would even look at them

i think it's great that amd are finally starting to catch up and it some elements
    overtaking intel

    Its not equal its less.

It will not force a price war or a generational leap in CPU tech.

I want a price war and a leap in tech.

tbf their still behind in gaming, unless its software related hopefully

It looks like they can almost match the latest i5s (in gaming) which is great for AMD, the pity is that the price of the 1800X means it should be beating the i7 7700K.

Here's hoping things get better for AMD with a revision or patching, but I dunno if that will really happen

I hear some are suggesting results are skewed by the brand of motherboard (or BIOS) used in Ryzen reviews? Asus and MSI having problems, with Gigabyte showing much better gaming performance.

Nier: Automata is up for pre-order on Steam :)

There's emerging results from Ryzen showing that higher clocked memory gives significantly better gaming benchmarks at 1080p (back to the levels AMD were raving on about)

Hoping Destiny 2 gets a PC release,a lot of rumour about it lately. Played a decent amount of Destiny 1 on PS4,im no vet but i think after i revisted it when the taken king was released the game felt much improved for me. Rise of Iron felt like a bit more of an end game update to me rather than content but i suppose the game stuck around a bit longer than they originally thought. In saying that since the taken king ive really enjoyed the game and still play it a lot.

Theres already a great community on boards for console,be great to see PC added to that.

Is it not just borderlands with halo gunplay? Never played it but never wanted to either.

I feel its grown into more than that,i played the alpha beta and then bought the game a good few months after release and dropped it after about 20hrs,just didnt click with me. Then when the taken king came out myself and a friend picked it up and havent looked back since. I feel thats the point when the game really shone for me.

I think it borrows from a lot of genres and melds it into a game thats very playable. Especially in a group.

Bought it for the kids pre owned on PS3 and it wouldnt work as they needed a DLC to play, dont think they ever bothered with it again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,615 ✭✭✭Revoker88

Yeah the dlc can be pricey and splits the community in a lot of ways. Its not a perfect game but i think it will do really well on PC.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,878 ✭✭✭Robert ninja

It's built like a free to play game. Except it charges up front and then for updates in the form of DLC that as you said have split the community. Friend of mine with 100s of hours gave up on it. Said the grind is worse than Warframe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,615 ✭✭✭Revoker88

That was my intial thoughts on it too,but theres a reasonable balance to it. Id say its loot system is pretty similar to an arpg like diablo 3.

I think it then it comes down to when you finish the story what you do to earn items and is doing it fun and is their enough variety in it,in destinys case after about 150hrs of it i can still say i enjoy it. The gun play is good and satisfying and there a number of ways to build classes depending on how you want to play which always helps with variety.

Ive spent a decent amoumt of time with loot driven games and i have to say destiny is right up there with some of my favourites. I dont think the game was fully realised till they released the taken king but i do think its has turned into a good game. Espcially in co-op.

So im hoping we at least have the optiin to buy the sequel on PC.

For anyone that picked Super Galaxy Squadron EX in the recent Humble Freedom Bundle, just thought I'd mention it got a free Turbo expansion pack today. Just stuck an hour into it there and it's added a lot to what was already an addictive shmup.

Anyone bothered with Halo 5: Forge at all? I was playing a few games last night on it. FPS cap is lousy but other than that it seems like a lot of fun, not very well optimised for m/kb though as far as I could tell (my m/kb skills are very rusty though).

I'd happily play Halo 5 (and the bloody MCC which they should really release on the PC), but i've no real interest in Forge.
