    Probably because if you replaced knacker with n*gger you would be banned. For some reason only certain people are entitled to not be insulted.

    In Dublin, knacker is a word used for scumbags/scobies. I rarely if ever hear it used for travellers. Pretty sure it was boards that taught me that it's sometimes used in that context.

    A knacker is a person whose business is the disposal of dead or unwanted animals, especially those whose flesh is not fit for human consumption.

    I've heard it for both. Plus since this isn't a dublin forum the point stands.
