What version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will you buy?

Unfortunately I don't quite have the money to buy the Switch.

As much as I'd love to play it soon, I'm finding it hard to justify a Wii U purchase seeing as I know I'll want it for Switch if/when I do upgrade, and regret having caved.
€110-140 for one game seems a bit much.

    So, I'm kinda torn. :(

    How about you?

I'm being stupid, and getting both versions. I always regretted not getting Twilight Princess on the GameCube, so getting both versions of this one.

Hope someday to have all the Zelda games... (Except the CDi games, those don't count.)

    Exactly the same here.

Edited the first option on the poll as it could seem a little confusing!

I've never owned a Wii U so I'll be splurging on the Switch. First time in a long time that I've been this excited and optimistic about a Nintendo console and no better way to kick off its life cycle than with a brand new portable Zelda.

Funnily enough, I've not been massively into Zelda games. Loved Wind Waker and Ocarina of Time but this just looks on a whole other level for the franchise.

    Yeah sorry for that.
I think you've slightly altered what I meant though, as I was referring to those who already owned a Wii U but would overlook the Wii U version on release in favour of buying it with the Switch.
I probably should have added an option for those who would buy both regardless though!

Apologies, that was how I'd read it!

I had actually thought about starting a similar poll before, that would have been just 'which version', Wii U/Switch/Both

No option for "own a WiiU but buying immediately for my new Switch"!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,120 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

That was the first option before I butchered it... :o

Have a Wii-U and plan on getting Zelda for it. Not getting a Switch until the end of the year or maybe next - whether I get Switch Zelda depends on whether I get round to playing the Wii-U version by then.

Where's the poll option for that? :pac: :pac:

Im hoping to pick up the wiiu version later, cant afford both switch, pro controller BOTW and a few of the amiibo on launch. Really hope there will still be wiiu versions around a couple of weeks later.

Have WiiU. But I'm getting Zelda on the shinny new Switch on launch day.

    Wiiu.

It's been sitting there pretty much unplayed for the guts of two years so it's about time I got something new for it :D

Close to what I'm leaning towards myself. Didn't even give myself an option to vote for!

    Absolute hames of a poll.

Probably should have kept it simple but was trying to make a distinction between those who would buy both as completists and those who simply couldn't afford a new console new and would settle for the Wii U version just to tide them over.
And then whether many would go for the double dip.

    Alas, poll results inconclusive.

Guess i'll be trading my Wii U for a copy of Superman 64 instead so.

    Thanks Boards.

Ah probably too many scenarios to make an accurate poll but interesting nonetheless.

The Switch is the definitive version for sure but I'm not paying 400 quid just for that - even if I had the funds (getting Bose QC35s and sim racing gear put paid to that :)). I just want to have Zelda in my collection in case I want to play it sometime - already owning a Wii-U is the cheapest option. But that's just me, others have equally valid reasons why Switch & Zelda is a good buy for them.

Have a wiiu. Might get it for wiiu later. Not getting it on switch.

Traded in my Wii U already against the Switch. So getting the swtich version from the e-shop on release.

Have a wiiu so I'll be getting a wiiu version in a coulple of weeks. Have the switch overpriced edition preordered but cancelled my switch preorder. Will be getting it in May. Will prob get the Switch Breath of the Wild edition Switch then if it exists, so hopefully I'll play that copy of the game.
No wait, there's another fire emblem out in May, so no wont get it played for a while.
I'll get the remastered edition in the Nintendo Extra Nxt Console out in a few years. Will defo play that.

I've a WiiU, getting the Switch this Friday, and BotW with the new device.
I'll pick up the WiiU version later, though I don't think it's the definitive title that Twilight Princess on the Cube was.

I'd absolutely agree with that. If it'd kept the gamepad functionality with the map and inventory management, it'd have that going for it vs the better performance on the switch, but as it is, I think the Switch version is the definitive version of BotW.

I've a WiiU and although I plan to get BOTW, as it looks great, I'll probably wait for a few months before taking the plunge. I'm at a stage in my life where hype doesn't impact that much and I've no problem waiting months/years before playing a game, even if I think it will be awesome. There's just so many other great games out there and that Steam backlog's not getting any shorter :D I'm a big GTA fan but haven't picked up GTA V yet; the possibility that its Steam sale price might drop below 29.99 is always at the back of my mind before I pull the trigger :)

I'm also open to getting a Switch, though as you can see from above I'm not an early adopter, quite the opposite, so would expect to wait until 2018 before moving on from the WiiU.

Is it strange that the majority are buying both, like me?

Given how many copies of OoT, MM, LttP and LA I own, and the rest of you as well, it's not strange at all!

I'll pick it up at an exorbitant price later, but the loss of Gamepad function is a great pity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

Is it foolish to hope they'll patch the Gamepad back in once the Switch has had it's successful launch?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,120 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

Sadly, I'd say yeah, it probably is. :(
Chances are that that's it, they won't patch it back in. It'd be great if they did, but I can't see them doing so.
Perhaps if there's enough pressure to do so they may...

Getting it on Wii U. Won't be buying a switch for another year or two (that way there will be a better range of games and they won't be as expensive). Will I get Zelda for the switch at the time? Not sure, probably not if there is no noticeable difference.

I've hacked my Wii U and played 5hrs of it so far, which is just enough to finish the starting area.
My two worries before playing it were weapon degradation and having to cook all the time. Happy to report that I actually like these two things. I normally hate cooking type mechanics , such as crafting potions and weapons in Skyrim but the animation that plays when cooking in BotW is fun enough that I don't skip it. And when your weapon is about to break you can throw it at an enemy and score a critical hit and then just pick up their weapon. It's great so far.
