Bought a new blue bull last spring. Fairly big front to him and was a bit nervous about starting to calve him. Had a blue 2nd Calver yesterday calved up in half an hour while I was watching her. Had another one tonight blue 2nd Calver again. Went down to out her I the pen under the camera and she was licking it. Just in, calf fed and all well.
That is ten calves on the ground now after the new bull and all going well. Very good calves and touch wood not too bad calved.

Nice to hear the rain after getting 50k gal of slurry off a lad in derogation and covering 20 acres after dinner today. Slatted tank was full and he rang in a bit of a panic. His uncle is a contractor so we had his 3 tankers 7300gal and my 1300g shifting. Not something I had expected getting done today but it's a job done. A few pallets of fertiliser next and first cut should be under control.

Yes they are supposed to look after everything. When I had employees a few years ago I would get alot more notice than this from the accountant
In that case I would expect the account to complete the form.

Not something I'd be shouting from the roof tops in case the cross compliance inspectors are watching....

    Why not?

If Foxy has the allowance for it? The rain last night down our way wasn't that bad at all I would have said, nothing exceptional.

would have thought it was all above board?

if the P30s were sent in monthly/quartherly and paid the P35 balance should only be for December or Oct/Nov/Dec at most.

Normally biggest hold up on payroll , p30,p45, p60 & p35 is getting the info however if its a set monthly amount its simple to have had that sorted 1st week of January

    Quick one for ye....

One of the heifers threw her calf about a month ago. So calf was already dead when I got to the shed. I registered the calf as dead when born.
Now for BDGP scheme I am being asked to record Calf Vigour! The lowest score is 'Very Lazy/Week'.......but surely for a calf that is registered as dead when born it should not be required to fill out this section (at least).
Surely not the first person to come across this....so what should I do?

Do you have agfood? Check the animal is gone off it, did you get the letter from icbf/ dept of ag to say calf was born dead?

Was at KT meeting last night. We had a vet telling us all the things that can/will kill our cattle and the song that was going round and round my head was "50 ways to kill your heifer" (50 ways to leave your lover, by Simon & Garfunkel)! Sorry, just had to share that with ye! As you can see, I take the KT meetings really seriously.

Got letter back in place of blue card which we gave to knackery. Must check agfood later.
On another note, MooCall went off at 2.30 this afternoon so I made my excuses and left work. Cow calved on her own at 4pm. Another one just calved there now. And a third has the tail up! Just love it when it all comes together. 😄

Would you trust the Moocall 100% or have you someone keeping an eye on the cows also?

    I don't even trust myself 100%. 😄
Have to say though I think it's a great job. Hasn't failed to give me a warning yet. I do have people to pop in to shed and have a look but they would only really notice if the cow had started. It has definitely helped me anyway.

I had the DOE retest on the jeep today and it failed on brakes and headlight aim. I gave the mechanic the fail sheet and told him to have everything right.
He said he had it on the rollingroad and the brakes were spots on and the lights got focused by the same crowd aswell.
I'm disgusted as it was the last day for the retest and has to get a full test now again.
The DOE centre were sound enough and didnt charge for the retest cos I'll have to pay for a full again when I have it ready

I had a similar run-in with my mechanic. Decided he knew better than the NCT tester, and didn't change brake pipes. So it failed on the retest. After a lot of shouting he did what he was supposed to do the first day, and refunded me the test fee.

OH had doe on the lorry today, he failed as there were no bolts holding the engine on on the lorry  He brought it to mechanic and they had a fooker of a job to get 4 bolts in. Brought it back to test centre for a visual retest and it passed. Not bad for a 1994 lorry. He was glad they found that fault

Those are a fine set of quad calves! Great shape to them and healthy as trouts. Will they be freemartins now?

I don't know if I'll look for the test fee but I'll do a bit of shouting in the morning to wake him up

Haha! No idea what's happened, unless another tree fell. Seen four on one road earlier on a six mile stretch.
Watching first dates and then BOOM, black screen.

Forced to watch it here as well. If you're watching the RTE one, its desperate stuff altogether. Turned over to the E4 version.
When do we see you strut yer stuff, or has it already aired?
