    Hey,

Just wondering what you would do in the following situation.

You are walking home from town at about 22:30 and you walk past a couple of travellers and they start giving you abuse. You think fair enough and ignore them and don't even look or speak. All of a sudden you hear some one coming up behind you. you can hear that they are running. Your first instinct is too turn around and look. You do so. Bang bang. There are them nasty travellers and they are after hitting you. You some how manage to punch them back and get out of punching distance. All of a sudden 4 travellers turn to 15 and they start picking on your mate. You some how manage to get away but your friend can't. You see 2 other friends but they don't know anything going on. Your friends come over and your trying to figure out what to do. As you are thinking about this they go for the guy that is on its own again.

So guys what would you do???

    RunFree.

PS this actually happened and both my mates are ok.

i wouldnt even have gotten a punch in so ffs to ye, i woulda just run. if my mate was getting beaten and if there was a brick or an iron bar lying around i might have picked it up and started swinging, if not i'd like to think i would do my best.

    fookin pikies

If your outnumbered by **** intent on fighting, running isnt cowardly.

If its a no run situation and your mate is getting battered ,2 guys getting battered means less hits for both or somfin stupid like that but if it means he gets less of a whomping ,jump in swinging.

I would say casll the gardai..... but I dont think it would happen to me, so I am speaking slightly out of body if you know what I mean... not saying I'm tough (that tough) but people tend not to hassel me.

Ye'd av e fierce auld time fudding wit 15 pikeies.

One of my mates always has to deal with pikeies in his line of work. And from the stories he comes back with, i wouldn't go near em.

So........Id run and call the guards (and wait 2hrs for the guards to arrive, whilst holding your friends skull together)

well i'm an angry little bast*rd so if i was hit, i'd probably run back a little bit, call the guards, then run back into it. It's the kinda person I am :P.

Originally if I heard running footsteps I woulda pegged it, but my mate was getting a beating, well, you wouldn't have a choice but to get invovled.

This is connected to that rumoured 'Traveler funeral' that was passing thru the Liberites last Thursday is it? If so then you'd have been wise to stay clear of them.

If two more of my mates had been there we all would have jumped in and fought them in all liklihood. If I was on my own I would have stayed back a little and thrown sh!t at them....like rocks or whatever was at hand that would hurt. Try to draw them away from my mate before I legged it :) (This is given that there are 15 of them laying into said mate)

fuking hate pikeys though....they should all be banished to the aran islands. Every last one of em...

if your mates taking a beating you have no choice but to help him, ive had to do it before while watching my mate taking a kicking, you dont and cant run away in that situation... My mates have had to do it with me aswell while i lay on the ground getting kicked into, i woulda took a hell of a beating if it wasnt for my mate coming over and pulling a few guys off while taking a beating himself..

If you run away from a mate while hes knee deep in shìt, then i dont know how you can call yourself a friend.

    just my 2cents anyway

Maybe its just me but I cant recall having heard anybody refer to them as pikeys until Snatch came out:D
Anyway your story confuses me a bit but if it was am mate who I know would help me if I was outnumbered Id jump in alright.
The guards wouldnt do sh1te.Last night at 2am we saw an old guy lying unconscious on the street. We told a guard who was standing a street away that there was an old man lying unconscious. He proceeded to continue his friendly chat with one of the local pub managers(there were bar exttensions last night in case your wondering if it was regarding opening hours)and strolled up 5 minutes later. So getting the fuzz isnt a helpful option.

You would have to try and fight them off, get your friend out there and put that athletics training into use - attract all the attention to you, run for the nearest pub/club and get behind the bouncers and into the building - then ring your friends, tell them where you are, tell them to get to a club/pub near them and give it 10-15 mins and attempt to meet up, dont tell them to come to the club straight away as the travellers will be about 100 yards away waiting for them.

I'm a complete coward... but if my friends were in trouble i'd rather come out with a broken leg then have to see my friends bleeding while i run.

whice is better to say pikeys or gypos. anyway ive heard that on english gangster programes before snatch

Get stuck in, trow every dig you can, kick. nice bin lying around bounch it off one of their heads, but get your mate out of there, then run.

Btw anybody notice the preoccupation with street violence on boards these days

I don't think talking to people like that would do any good and if your friend is getting a kicking sure he could be dead by the time you finish calling the gardai and I don't think many people would just run away if their friend was being attacked so that just leaves jumping in and doing as much damage as you can before getting the funk out of dodge, provided you have the legs to carry you of course.

If it was as bad as that, I'd have to get in there too, but I'd give the guards a call if I could first.

    What did actually happen?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 6,588 ✭✭✭weemcd

call me naive but i really didnt think mugging and stuff like it was such a problem. it probably comes from living outside armagh - quite a small town, im quite sheltered because i live in the countryside. i will have to do something to protect myself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,403 ✭✭✭passive

so....is Runfree gonna tell us what he actually did and how it worked?

i'd call the gardaí, quickly. then try talk my way out and if it came to it fight (until there was a chance to escape)

a while back i got surrounded by a bunch of scumbags and ran like **** away, leaving about 8 friends behind (mostly girls/not fighting people)....probably the most cowardly thing i've ever done but the scumbags were only after me and everyone else came out unharmed...

but in this situation i think i'd have to stick around and do my best to get my friend out. THEN run like ****

Come on, the gardai are useless, everyone knows that, their reaction time, their overall protection, its a joke - in my home town (Tullamore) the worst crime spot is actualy in front of the cop shop.... does that not say something?

Ok ok fair enough....maybe not the aran islands...I mean if we built a big high wall around Kerry say or maybe Longford or somewhere like that and put them all in there that would be alright aswell.
