IrishZeus hasn't come back with a question. So, just to kickstart this again....

Teddy Roosevelt. Odd choice. Aggressive imperialist.

Name the six European powers that have at one time or another governed mainland North American territory north of the Rio Grande.

Probably can't get all six, but:

    Britain (New England, Canada, etc)
    France (Louisianna, Canada)
Spain (presumably, though not sure if their territory was north of the RG)
Sweden (I think, or maybe one of the other Scandinavian countries might have ruled places like Minnesota for a bit)
    Netherlands (Pennsylvania-ish region)
    Germany (guessing)

First two are definitely right, the others are more guesses, and are probably more about where immigrants settled than what was actually governed.

How can England not be correct?

How can England not be correct?

I never said England was incorrect. England/(Great) Britain count as one. Nobody has yet got all six correct

You posted that after England was guessed twice....

    Oh Sweet Jesus!
What I am saying is that there are six European powers in the answer, and nobody has named the correct six powers in their answer. If you name five correctly and one erroneously, your answer is wrong. Do you understand that?
Now, would you like to have a go at scoring? Which do you want to be, Henry Shefflin or Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh?

Mod Just cool it a bit folks. Chancer3001 your objection does not seem to be relevant so don't pursue it please.

Ok.. It seems nobody is going to get this. Answer:

    1. Spain ( 1521-1821, Florida, Texas, California etc. )
    2. England/Britain ( The Thirteen Colonies, Canada, Newfoundland. )
    3. France ( New France, including Newfoundland, Quebec etc. 1534-1763, Louisiana etc. )
    4. Netherlands ( New Netherland, i,e. mainly New York 1614-1664. )
    5. Sweden ( New Sweden, based mainly in Delaware 1638-1655. )
    6. Russia ( Alaska to 1799-1867. )

I won't be at my computer for a few days so somebody might post a question.

Whoo-hoo, 5/6 - better than I thought. Just Russia (which I should have figured out) instead of Germany!

    Little pet lizards.

    Bearded dragons.

    Love a nature question.

What's unusual about the bones of sharks?

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 16,287 Mod ✭✭✭✭quickbeam

They're made of cartilage not bone? Unless there's something else unusual about them.

Sorry folks, have been travelling a bit for work so only posting a question now. Might as well have an extra one going.

Where is the largest opera house in Italy? Or alternatively, tell me what it is called? (I will fill in the blanks if someone gets either right)

The only one I can think of is the La Scala in Milan. No idea if its the biggest though.

Excellent guess but I am looking for a closed/roofed opera house, rather than an open air arena.
