Better, I have a hard copy price list with all the options listed from Fitzpatrick's Tullamore.
I left it at home though, I'll grab a scan tonight.

    Got that options list?

The garage has a roller shutter so normally not visible but I do agree it is tempting.

I presume its locked into the car when charging/locked from inside car, don't know as I have dismissed the car as an option, too low down etc for a bad back

When charging, the cable is locked in place automatically. I used the granny cable once at home while I was waiting on the charge unit to be installed, and also once at work, when the charge point in Naas was out of order.

No idea, came up on r/teslamotors

    Some mentioned they'd been Ioniq'd

I stopped by the local Hyundai garage today. I had my old man with me, as he wants to upgrade from his 152 Yeti. I was after an options list for the electric model and was given a price standard price list for all the models:rolleyes:

I said I was looking for the options price list for the electric Ioniq and the rep said that they don't do options at Hyundai

He pointed me over to the self proclaimed "Ioniq specialist" who was sitting at his desk. He told me that there are no options, but what would I want. "leather seats" I say. Hyundai Ireland won't bring one in with leather seats he says....but the garage can have them retro-fitted at a cost of €1500. I told him I would rather factory fitted leather and he reaffirmed they can't get them.

I have to say, I am really put off by this. No options, even thought the car has to be ordered anyway. It smacks of "paddy spec, or nothing at all." The only option seems to be 5 of the dozen or so available colours from Hyundai. I don't fancy shelling over 25k for a new car and not be able to more than black, white or silver. Strongly considering going elsewhere now. Will most likely get an Outlander from the UK.

Could you go to a Hyundai dealer in the North and buy new up there and get the Premium SE spec with leather that way?

Yes it's a strange situation. I wonder is this policy decided on by Hyundai Ireland or are these decisions by individual dealers? I guess the fact that cros13 came upon an Irish options list, would suggest the latter. Perhaps email all Hyundai dealers to specifically ask them about getting a car with factory fitted leather, would they do it?

If you need a list of email addresses, I should have it handy somewhere.

You wouldn't get the Irish subsidies though, would you? Or the free charge pass and the charge point installation.

    On the €5k grant, true.
I presume to get the UK grant you'd have to provide a UK address.

The €5k VRT exemption should still hold here when you import it although you would have to claim the VAT back in the UK and pay VAT here, which would be messy.

The "charge pass" is free regardless of where you buy the car or whether its new/used.

Overall, its not really a viable option unless you have a UK address you can use.

A while back in this thread, someone pointed out that the Ioniq has the same squarish rear end as the Prius. I agreed that it did, but I also pointed out that Hyundai have down a better job of disguising it and softening it with the design of the lights, curves, etc.

Well I just came across this article about the new Jaguar iPace and here is what Jag's designer had to say:
This element did provide the biggest design challenge for Callum’s team. “The rear needed be very aerodynamic, which meant it would be blunt and harsh, so we worked hard to refine it and make it more Jaguar – more elegant.”

    http://www.forbes.com/sites/nargessbanks/2016/12/06/electric-cars-jaguar-ipace-suv/#60cbaafa7e42

So it seems square rear ends are required for good aerodynamics. But that doesn't mean it has to be ugly like on the Prius. The Ioniq is pretty good looking rear end and the rear end of the jag looks absolutely gorgeous.

I've asked on their facebook page. Wonder if it will get a response.

The Premium SE version is only about £1800 more than the basic spec. Looks like it comes with a sunroof, but I could be wrong.

So it's daylight robbery to pay €1500 for retrofit leather seats.

It is not, when they are retrofitted. You are left with the cloth seats worth - at dealers prices - probably as much... ;)

Another report from Sweden, motorway winter driving just above 0C, heat on, lights on. Normal driving mode, zero regen braking. Using active cruise control.

Using 10kWh/100km doing 90km/h (implied range of 280km) and 18kWh/100km doing 125km/h (implied range of 160km). Very impressive stuff considering the cold temps and the motorways speeds.

I got it after, nice car. I will update this thread as I get time to test the car.

I drove about 70 kms averaged 14.9 Kwh/100 kms, I can tell right away this is better than the Leaf how much so , well I know it would take a lot more effort to achieve in the Leaf. I was on c and d roads, 60-80-100 Kmh.

My trip to Michael Lyng Hyundai in Carlow in the Leaf averaged 16.9 Kwh/100 kms and the same trip in the Ioniq "home" 13 Kms, averaged 13.9 Kwh / 100 kms ;)

Interior isn't bad at all, some cheap plastics and I was disappointed with the carpet, it's just carpet look-a-like plastic like the leaf but it's a nice place to be all the same, some nice mats and you won't really notice.

Leather would be nice but Hyundai Ireland won't import the top spec model even if you get down on your knees and beg. Reason is they have to bulk order and due to poor EV sales they won't take the risk of getting stuck with cars they risk not selling. And they won't import a few because they have to buy in bulk and seemingly you can't order options from hyundai like most other manufacturers you buy the spec and that's it. Perhaps if they knew it was top spec or nothing they might be able to get one so everyone should pester them to order more top spec models.

The car I think is wider then the leaf but headroom is notably less. My head just about tips the roof in the back and while I'm about 5 foot 8" . Head room up front isn't bad but I do like the higher roof in the Leaf and my partners dad can sit comfortably in the Leaf with plenty of head room and he's 6 foot 5" and would struggle in the back of the Ioniq. Leg room is fine. Seats are pretty comfortable, lack of leather is a shame, (get pestering Hyundai for the top spec)

The boot in the Ioniq is a far better shape than the Leaf but not nearly as deep and I thought I'd be able to fit the buggy length ways but a few inches too short so had to put it sideways. Shame, I thought the boot was going to be larger.

Oh yeah, I heard some people say the Leaf is a "lot faster" no, I'm sorry but it isn't, it's a bit faster but being so used to the leaf and the EV motoring the acceleration was definitely not "a lot faster" as far as I could tell than the Leaf but I would love a drag race :D

I love the option to have 0 regen when you lift the throttle, I can see how this improves efficiency, and regen is a "lot" stronger , the highest regen Kw I saw was a whopping 87 Kw !!!, comepare that to the Leafs 30 Kw.

Regen when you need it and coasting when you don't and it's just wonderful. One pedal drivers just don't get coasting ! but there are times one pedal driving is fine. You can still adjust regen by lifting back, but not off the throttle, and pressing again.

The Lane keeping thing is not useful on country roads, but the lane departure works ok where there is road markings. I can't wait to try out the kind of auto steering on the motorway tomorrow.

The adaptive cruise is pretty good , does the job and I love the ability to bring the car to a complete stop, it will accelerate again but it's far too slow to move the car again from a dead stop but would be wonderful in commuter traffic on the Likes of the M7 N7.

I thought the Ioniq had Android and Apple car entertainment ? If it has I could not find it, all I could use was normal bluetooth streaming which was a complete disappointment if it's a feature only on the top spec Ioniq !

I arrived back with 58% battery, my work commute would see 35-45% in the 24 Kwh Leaf, so it will be interesting to see what I get tomorrow when I pass the turn off for work.

So I am very impressed with the Ioniq, great car but sadly, the lack of remote activation of heating and charging is really disappointing and I'm not sure I could live without the convenience. But most people that never had it won't miss it because it will warm up amazingly fast compared to ICE. I read somewhere that this function is coming.

One thing I do like is the ability to have the heated mirrors come on with the timer pre heat.

For the life of me I can't seem to get the timer to set ? the Leaf is so simple , I'm actually amazed !

Any Ideas ? the problem is setting the off peak timer function, when I have it all set the "OK " button doesn't light.

    Nice review/comparison.

Having been in both I would take the Leaf Tekna leather interior and overall roominess any day over the standard Ioniq with polyester seats. But in the EV world range is probably the primary consideration.

I'm not sure 200 Kms can be achieved with "Ease" ?

When I got into the car with a full charge it said "200 Kms"

Tomorrow will give me a better idea.

    The Boot and the buggy.

I long for an Estate EV !

    Thanks for the review!

Yes it has Apple Carplay / Android Auto. Didn't test it as I have a 950XL :p Did test wireless charging and bluetooth playback and I thought they worked well and the sound quality was pretty decent. Did you not think so?

If we were still at buggy stage, I would not be buying an Ioniq. Boot is not big. For us it's a relief that we finally fit in a smaller car after years of large BMWs / Saab / Jaguar / Rover, etc. Not that we particularly want a smaller car, just that there are more options open to us.

And when you were testing the acceleration, did you use sport mode? It's a lot slower if you don't :) I only had the Leaf on a short test drive and I found acceleration off the mark was fine, but I would put serious money on the Ioniq being a lot faster say from 30km/h-100km/h. But I guess we will eventually do that drag race so I can prove it to ya :p

I can't comment on Bluetooth in the Ioniq but sound over Bluetooth (unless there's AptX, a proprietary codec, is supported) is generally inferior. In the Leaf it's definitely only so-so.

@madlad: the time you're trying to set there is confused.

    00:00AM is midnight.
    12:00PM is midday.

There's no such time as 12:00AM, which is why the OK button is greyed out.

    I'd imagine anyway.

There's things I like about both cars, the 87 Kw regen is just mad in the Ioniq.

Ioniq , 0 regen option when you lift off the throttle with control on the steering to adjust regen strength.

    Ioniq , The Adaptive cruise.

Ioniq, I like the dash, the Leaf has trees and bubbles that are as useless.

Leaf, I like the leather in the Leaf and having a 1 year old and 2.5 year old being able to wipe down the seats is very handy.

The headroom in the Leaf is definitely going to be good for tall people, particularly in the rear. For me the Ioniq is perfectly fine but I do like not sitting so much on top of the windscreen in the Leaf.

Ioniq, Boot is a better shape but not really more practical.

Leaf, a doddle to set the charge timer ! :D

    Leaf heater steering.

I found the ride comfortable in the Ioniq , the Leaf SVE seems to have better handling.
