    It's strong flour you need.

    What are you making?

I was going to make a goats cheese, roasted pepper and pesto focaccia. I was too lazy to go to another shop for strong flour even though now I'm sorry I didn't brave the elements and go!!

Why do you not see supermarket own brand creme eggs?

Galaxy have caramel eggs so it must not be some trademark or copyright or whatever to have small eggs with gooey filling.

Have a look in ALDI, at the assorted specials counters.

I've just started working in IFSC. Close to a Mexican food outlet called Burritos and Blues or something like that. There's always a queue out the door at lunchtime...but I am tempted to visit at teatime when it is quieter. Might sound stupid but I don't know what to order. I like hot food, preferably chicken, and I have kidney beans. Any suggestion what to ask for?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,951 ✭✭✭SB_Part2

Burrito with chicken, pinto beans and then whatever toppings you like. Or a burrito bowl.

Unplanned and totally enjoyable "kitchen hour" or so... A very ripe pineapple reached out to me to be jammed, 3 lovely jars.... so that is done and a mixed berry steamed sponge is a simmering... Loved the hour and all washed and cleaned.

I am still making discoveries in this very well-equipped kitchen and today came across a wok... lurking under the heaviest frying pan I ever tried to lift.

Never had or used a wok ... a voyage of discovery ... the gas hob has a burner with several rings...

And at the sides over the teak worktops, on each side, metal rails to rest pans on.

ALso found some round thick pads, blue; no idea what for but pan shaped and looked like insulation?

Pan protectors? The idea is that you put them into the bottom of a frying pan before stacking another one into it, they protect the inside from being scratched and damaged.

Really? lol! The things they think of!

Just googled that and these are plain round.. maybe to protect the teak wood surfaces then?

Well, I suppose if you have really expensive pans you might want to protect them. Me, I've got some 10 quid ones from when Lidl had them on offer, and they'll do for a year or two, but people do like nice things.

They could be table mats, I guess, for when you want to put down a hot pot or pan onto a wood surface?

Or they could be multi-functional thingymajigs, and you get to invent new purposes for them! :D

They have wee hanging loops on them too ;)

And the teak counters are well protected already with huge wooden boards and racks.

finding so many things I never used before... Yes these are expensive pans etc ,heavy and hard wearing. The big pan has a steamer insert.

Still using my own old frying pan though! Could hardly lift the ones here.

Could get used to all this finery.. And that is just the pans.... now the china....OH MY!

Wondering how i managed without the poultry shears... They make cutting uo raw for the cats an easy work

Are they for resting your teapot on by any chance? I haven't seen one of those around since I was really young.

No; she had posh stands for that and these are in the pan drawer! Never had such a well equipped rental kitchen..

    I mean a WOK!

They sound to me like padded mats for oven-to-table cooking.

Enjoyed a 'shop till you drop" day in the Big City.... baulked at the last possible shop ie LIDL ... No more; enough!

The range and quality and variety of food is awesome. So much choice. Well pleased with purchases.

Today;s "finds" in the magical mystery cupboards! The owner left the kitchen cupboards as they were....am exploring a bit at a time..

A stove top kettle. I had been intending to ask at the local charity shop about finding one... There is a set of rails across the open fire and I have neen heating water there in a huge pan, but it is unwieldy

So now the kettle sings quietly.... pace of life slows down :)

AND I have correctly IDed a utensil as a spaghetti server....

C'mere a minute. Are you still up in the hills, or have I missed something?

Oh yes, still up in the boonies. Civilisation is portable ;). Just the owner is a lover of fine things. The kitchen is amazing. I love it! Will not use half the stuff though..

    http://www.1st-stop-county-kerry.com/Peig-Sayers.html

And thank you; she was clearly a great lady... strong and stalwart

Would love to live on Great Blasket.. or any small island...lived in Kerry...

Have always lived simply perforce and through inclination. But am learning now... Will never use a wok etc!

Love the kitchen here though but love the hearth too.

She was a pathological liar, actually. Made most of it up.

Not a nice thing to say..... and not relevant to my point. Stories are fiction.. not lies...

All reminds me of one day when I was fairly new in Ireland. I was chatting to some old ones after mid week Mass one day and when they heard about my water supply, run off from the bog , and bringing drinking water in from holy wells, they started reminiscing about their younger days and that life... Went all starry eyed....

When I asked would they go back to that way of life, SHOCK , HORROR!.. they lived in town now...

For me, this way is peaceful and good.... as is eating simply.

Thanks be the Jesus, she wasn't on my curriculum. Heard a few bits about her. This was after I married a Kerry woman, who is the complete opposite. I hope.

No idea what this lady did to upset you all, but all I am doing is saving money and enjoying greater simplicity....

    Ah well!

I got some scallops fresh of the boat yesterday. I am dying to do something with them this evening. I'm thinking a classic combo of black pudding and pea puree.

    Hey all,

Looking for your recommendations for a nice place to get a nice lunch in Dublin city or else around Drumcondra area? Could even go somewhere within the city centre.

Was in The Ivy House in Drumcondra last week, it was nice, but looking to try somewhere else.

Only one issue - need somewhere that is not overly busy, we were going to try Elephant & Castle, but having gone there once before and remembering how crazy busy it was, I don't know if its suitable.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.
