    Disappointing.

But Dublin are manufactured hurlers. Cork are more likely to lose to them than teams like Clare/Limerick/Galway.

    :D

Do you ever actually read the nonsense you post first?

    Hurling is genetic is it?

If so, some people need to get some DNA engineering. Fast :)

No doubt it was a bad night from cork but I don't think they're as bad as that display for me I think they just expected to win and then when it was put up to them they couldn't switch it on. Cork have some nice hurlers but some aren't physical enough for the modern game.

Serious question, when was the last time Harnedy played well for ye?

He was hurt pretty much all of last year in fairness. Still doesn't seem to have his usual burst of speed and energy so I wonder if he's 100% yet.

I don't think this Cork team is going to be much different to the last couple of years. They can take a scalp in a one off game if the forwards all hit their straps but they're too inconsistent/not good enough to put in any substantial championship run.

We must keep blooding some young lads for the rest of the league and finally try to nail down positions for defenders. The likes of Joyce, Cahalane and Ellis have played in every position from 2 - 9 in the last couple years. I'd like to see Joyce at 6 and Ellis at 3 given a bit of a run personally.

who is regarded as one of the top coaches in the country acting as a spectator up in clare

    Regarded by who?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,101 ✭✭✭Rightwing

agreed but major qustion marks over teams 3 and 4 in that list to get over the line if it were all ireland final day ,point i make is if limerick clare or cork got on a run they probably have enough to challenge themselves but as i say clare will not be in the mix this year ,

given this is a cork thread i hope the likes of meade shane kingston , coleman cadogan and players like griffin at corner back who had a bad night improve as the league goes on , if they can work with them over the summer and find a system ( which is beyond management in my opinion ) they can still make an impact .

donal og serves no purpose in clare , dose he actually do anything in cloyne or the local area in cork for underage?

I know nothing about him apart from the fact that he is a know all. Kiely must have about 15 strong back team helping him, it's a joke.

    I agree Cork lack physicality.

He coached a minor team to win the second grade minor county last year, St Colmans ( amalgamation of Cloyne and Russell Rovers)

I know things can change very quickly, but if I was offered 20/1 on us winning senior AI in either code in next 5 years I would not back it.

I know some will thinkk thank god im not a bookie, but honestly I have went to games since 1989 and things were never so low. Even against Limerick in 1996 least you knew there was crop coming through.

I guess it means he ran too far and did not actually kick it from where the free should've been taken.

Never saw something like that on an intercounty Twitter before, small bit unprofessional?

sure every player from junior b to senior intercounty has been at that for years, trotting in towards the centre of the pitch to give themselves a better angle.

pet hate of mine tbh, would like every attempt at scoring from a free to be taken off the ground.

Barry John Keane from Kerry is particularly adept at this method of free taking.

Amateur in terms of pay yes, but the attitude of the majority of teams, especially at intercounty level, is anything but.

Is there any hope for the footballers in the coming years? There's been plenty of talk about the hurlers having a great crop of young talent coming up, can the same be said of the footballers? Kerry's recent minor successes suggest they're soon to be a frightening prospect once again, it's a pity Cork don't seem to be able to capitalise on undetage success as well as they can.

With regards to youngfellas i think it's a lot easier for a fella a year or so out of minor hurling to play senior then it is for a footballer based on the physicality of the game these days. Even if you look at the top teams in both. Dublin don't have any lads making the breakthrough, likewise Donegal. On the other hand you have fellas like John McGrath, some of the waterford/clare lads in the hurling breaking through. As big as they are at 18/19 these days there's still a bit of a gap i feel between that age and grown men in the their mid to late 20's in football. Skill doesn't do much for you in football whereas you can be skillful and relatively small in hurling.

John McGrath is 22 nearly 23 and didn't make his debut until he was 21 (a month short of being 22) the gap in the physicality required between hurling and football has closed massively in the last couple of years.

re cloyne cusack has done a lot of work for his club and in the surrounding area. The issue in cork is the some of the older fraternity who would rather lose than see cusack o halpin and those lads involved in cork hurling

The rule isn't being enforced, that's the issue, I've always taken them from the hand and I'd be useless from the ground, that's not to do with making a better angle for myself either. Both are skills, removing one from the game on account of inconsistent refereeing isn't the correct solution IMO

That said, some fellas take the piss, refs should have the spray like soccer for the wall - don't pass that mark

so you are saying the players voted for a change of management last year but to keep donal og, nonsense , i dont believe they were ever given much of a choice in his inclusion and yes i would have contact with lads on the panel

, while i agree with the fact that the cork county board dont want or at least done very little to get him or sean og or who ever on board
