    1. Selling them for cheap gets you into the shop, maybe while you're there you'll buy something else.
    2. Selling them for cheap online usually means a heap of them pop up on ebay shortly thereafter.

For 15 quid, this is a great buy, got mine for 20 and very happy with it. (No way it's worth 40 though)
If it can revive a now redundant (but still excellent by sound output/quality standards) home stereo, then it is most definitely worth €40.

I have mine powered from the USB on my sound bar. A stereo with USB port would do the same

If folks get 'ground loop' issues when using the Chromecast Audio (crackling/pops from your speakers) be sure to use the provided PSU OR use the optical output from it if your amp has an optical input. The provided adapter isn't just a standard/cheap 5V USB PSU.

Great deal at that price :D

Quick question. I have the video version. Would that do the same job with audio, I.e. Would it cast audio as well as video

On Android you can connect to the Chromecast Audio just like you would do a bluetooth receiver rather than in a video app itself like YouTube. There will be a delay in video/audio though, just like a bluetooth receiver.
The cast option directly in YouTube won't show Chromecast Audio devices, only normal Chromecast video recievers

For purely audio purposes, the OP is the way to go.

Yes. But the video version has a HDMI output so your stereo needs a HDMI input, which it probably doesn't have.

Most modern televisions have an optical output so assuming your amp has an optical input then the video version will work for streaming music. However if you have a television with no optical and only HDMI and your amp has optical but no HDMI..... then you're screwed.

I think WHL is just asking can you use a normal Chromecast on a tv for audio only.
You can, Google music works anyway.

Mahon Point had another offer in-store of a regular Chromecast plus an Audio Chromecast for €49.99.

Loads in Currys/PcWorld in Liffey valley today. Inside the door with big signs and at all tills. Defo no shortage.

What I didn't know before buying is you need Spotify premium to cast to the Chromecast audio. Not to end of the world but I think I would have found a similar device for a similar price if I'd known that before purchasing.

Does Spotify even work on a phone if it's not Premium?

Yes, you can cast to regular Chromecast but not cc audio.

That's mad. Spotify are strange though, they were very resistant to even allow any casting from their app, even the premium one. It's only pretty recently that they do.

I guess Google play music is as rival so by forcing people to get Spotify premium they get one over on Google.

anyone use these for multiroom audio?.... i have an amazon echo... wonder if i can integrate with this for cheap multiroom

Yes, you can use these for multiroom audio. You can group them and cast to them simultaneously for a cheap multiroom setup.

No it doesn't work with Amazon Echo, but it does work with Google Home, Googles version of the echo. You can ask Google Home to play music from spotify on multiple CCA. I've this set up and it is amazing. Great for parties, etc.

I think it is more due to licensing issues with the Music industry. I'm sure Spotify wold love to just make it available everywhere, but the big 5 music companies control so much and like to dick around with new services like this.

whats this about needing spotify premium ?

Can you not cast YouTube from your phone to a stereo and listen to it via audio only ?

    Crossed wires.

The point is that Spotify Free does not permit Chromecast but Spotify Premium does.

There are many other free ways to play music through Chromecast.

    From reddit

I currently use my Chromecast Audio in my car and it works fantastic. The sound quality is superior to any Bluetooth solution I've come across.

I could not find a way in a short period of time to configure the CCA using the same phone that was hosting the network. I got around this by creating the SSID I wanted the CCA to connect to on my home network and joined my phone to it as well. The Chromecast app didn't have any problems with this and allowed me to set it up. Once I was done, I disabled the SSID on my home network and setup my phone with the exact same SSID and password for its hotspot. The CCA connects to it and it and it works like any other Chromecast.

Google how to guide,Chromecast audio in your car

Sort of linked to this, where do people get speakers? Everywhere I look you can only buy wireless speakers which are more expensive and negate the need for the Chromecast anyway. The whole idea of these is to make a normal speaker wireless but I haven't got one in the house at all and I don't imagine many people have.

Is there another use for them that I'm missing?

I'm sure most people use it to connect to an old stereo they have sitting around the house. Personally, I've used it to connect to my surround sound system, and it's great.
