so im thinking i might buy all my games digital with the switch... Any idea what eshop prices will be like?

If the Wii U is anything to go by, then very expensive. It's been far cheaper to buy them physically, not to mention all the added benefits.

You won't find info on Argos they don't do preorders or the likes in Ireland.

It's weird because in the in-store booklets they have a section for it (no pricing) and a section marked out on their website: http://www.argos.ie/features/nintendo-switch

However, nothing is there at the moment. It sucks because Gamestop are a flat out no from me buying anything and Smyths is grand, but I just know Argos will have a good deal.

Nobody work in one, or know someone who works in one that could ask? I feel they should start to get info at this stage.

Sorry to double post - but don't bother. Maybe over here it's cheaper to buy digitally, but from what I've seen on Amazon and other sites it's dearer to buy online.

Zelda is 49.99 physical but 59.99 digital. Those are pounds mind you...

Very brave to go all digital on a Nintendo console given their history with it :pac:

They have been all sixes and sevens with their approach to online stores and accounts.
I'm hoping the move to a subscription service will bring with it a more cohesive contemporary system.
Attaching games to an account rather than a system would be a start, and we have kind of a beginning of this with games bought on the WiiU/Wii bringing discounts to their equivalent on the 3DS store, in certain circumstances at least.
Ideally, if I buy Ocarina of Time on my WiiU, I should never have to buy that game again, unless it's some sort of 3DS like enhanced port, but even then I'd be expecting a discount.
But, Nintendo's biggest financial reserve is ultimately the treasure trove of titles and IP that they have built up over the years, so it's not surprising they don't want to open the vault to ongoing ownership of titles to people who show every interest in buying OoT again and again, with little complaint, on every system that they own that can run it.
Even, with a choice of emulating it on a Wii or spending a few euro and have it on the same system via VC, I'll take the latter, meaning I'm part of the problem!!

    We shall wait and see.

    14 more sleeps til Switchmas!!!

Out of curiosity, have any of you seen any advertising or marketing in the mainstream media for the launch of Switch? I haven't myself and if it wasn't for looking in on this thread, I wouldn't know that it was launching in a couple of weeks.

superbowl ad is probably the biggest, i have been getting some switch ads on youtube too recently

i've actually found recently thats not just a nintendo thing, its very annoying as it should be cheaper for digital since your not paying for discs/cases etc.
an e.g. recently was looking to buy RE7 on PC. on steam its 50 or so while in gamestop physical disc its 35 compared. another one my buddy was buying nioh and it was 65 i think he said on psn while the disc off amazon was 15 cheaper. worse still buying the digital copy off amazon and clicking on the disc version and its again anywhere from 10-20 cheaper for the games

Anything over here? I haven't seen ads here at all. I think I seen an article in the Guardian but beyond that I haven't seen much in the way of anticipation.

Cidey, at your age 14 sleeps will barely get you to Dinner time! Who do you think your kidding?

Ads : Sounds like they're aggressively targeting the adult unwashed and eschewing both children and the semi-educated - haven't seen any ads on kids tv or any news or financial channels. Dear god, I hope the Fifa port is good, 'cause there's a lot riding on it.

i think i'll buy it regardless as its only through sales of it that ea will continue to make them on it and maybe get a more advanced copy next year

I think I saw a brief Switch advert during impractical jokers the other day. 15 seconds including a brief snippet of Zelda.

I remember on the Vita EA released the exact same FIFA game twice, just updating the skins for the new season. I'd not want the switches success riding on how interested they are.

Shovel Knight looks fantastic in that video a few pages back. Never bought it but it looks perfect on the Switch.

Just on the talk of physical vs digital... I still love buying physical copies of games if only because it's easier to shop around for cheaper deals online. Plus there's also the fairly generous trade in offers that CEX offer on games to be used for future purchases.

I would have opted to go solely digital if Nintendo's e-shop prices weren't so bloody extortionate.

I've gone for a sizable micro SD card for the Switch to download digital only games such as Shovel Knight and Snipperclips but having physical carts won't eat into my storage space.

I'm going south park mode gonna freeze myself and wake up Buck Rodgers style, Switch should be dirt cheap in 2400s

i dont think the switches success will count on it. i mean the wii just got the same one over and over too. i just think they are more likely to put effort in if it sells. if say they put the ps3/xbox360 version on it this year and pulled the same thing 12 months later then i wouldnt buy it again.

im gonna take a guess and say they put the first xbone/ps4 version which used the old engine but pushed to its limits. still doesnt require the biggest efforts vs getting the frostbite engine running on the switch

They can be charged by sliding them onto the console
How fast are you planning to finish Zelda? :o

Given I'll be travelling for two weeks with the switch, most likely quite quickly!

100 shrines, skulltula side quest,weapon/armour upgrade side quests and the inevitable water temple related meltdown may take more than two weeks.

I don't like football or football games, but I'd imagine an ad showing people playing a wee fifa tournament in a daytime pub garden would win over a fair few customers.

Given how reluctantly Nintendo lowers the price of games and consoles......not liking your chances!

What do you mean, if? They are putting the PS3/XB360 version on it this year. Did you not see the video yesterday?

Fifa looks nice on the small screen, it just might work, we better get those sound effects when inserting everything if not I will not be amused.

That could just be placeholder imagery though. I'm not that into footie games but it will shift units if it's done well.
All down to EAs willingness and also what the system can handle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,392 ✭✭✭✭RobbingBandit

EA probably happy because of fifa coins ultimate team and a cut of the online funds, probably won't launch it until September when Fifa 18 is out as European leagues are entering their final thirds soon.

There was 128GB micro SD card on Pigsback the other day for 20 quid, just searched it there and it seems to be gone, nooooo....

I doubt it was fast but I don't think the switch will take advantage of SD card class speeds, or does it?

also the writing while it is shown was translated to basically mean not the final product
