Dunno what the venn diagram for Fullmetal Alchemist, GBA and fan translation people looks like around here, but, the RPG based on the popular anime has gotten a seemingly fantastic fan translation after 13 years in unlocalized obscurity. It's called FMA: Stray Rondo and you can get all the details and whatnot here.

    Ahem.

Some of them don't look too bad considering they're hand drawn with marker

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,025 ✭✭✭Mr.Saturn

There is. I'm not sure if it's FMA or FMA: B, but there is one.

Just do what me and Capcom do and write the year as 20XX and you'll never go wrong.

€15 for Tetris on the GB... Is that an OK price these days?

It's been open since before Christmas, was so tempted to buy an Amiga. Pristine condition. Nice bloke too.

I'm guessing it's the site that's new, then? Might be worth a punt eventually as I'm in Mullingar very rarely these days.

I think it's one of life's greatest ironies that I initially got into older games because I'm cheap. Now I can buy a few relatively modern games for the guts of a score or score one B+ tier Gamecube title and maybe the bus home if it's a good day.

Oh I'll have to tell my bestie, he lived up there for years, might like to check it out himself.
I meant to ask is there a retro shop in Galway? When I was up there last a chap was telling me about it but I didn't get rather it had been set up already or not.

    Hi lads,
I was wondering if anyone has some old 72-pin SIMM Memory Modules spare or for sale?

I'm looking for 2 x 32MB, they can't have more than 18 chips per module and can either be 32-bit or 36-bit (parity).

One of the current ones I use in my groovebox is faulty as the .wav samples get corrupted when you use over a certain amount of sample memory, and I don't have an old PC to run memtest or whatever on.

    Thanks.

    You're neighbourhood Doge!

Quick question for the wizards in here. Is there any downside to a widescreen crt? My old 4:3 trinitron died and I see another one nearby for sale but it's widescreen. I can set the aspect ratio to 4:3 according to the manual. I'd normally just get a 4:3 but they seem to be drying up lately. Thanks..

You may have to get used to black bars on either side of the screen!
Other than that, no downside, well, they tend to weigh a ton!

So I ordered a few games from playasia a while ago which arrived while I wasn't in the house. FedEx left them at the front door. So I get an invoice today from FedEx for vat on it.

Am I going to get heavies calling to the door looking for the vat?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,397 ✭✭✭✭Digital Solitude

    Nope, forget about it

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,400 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

Well I got hounded by them recently for about a month. I eventually paid it because I thought they might not deliver future items. when I did it was in the process of getting passed to a debt collectors.

Their handling fee is ridiculous and is why I left it so long while debating whether or not to pay it. I always try to avoid FedEx if I can they are the worst of the lot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,397 ✭✭✭✭Digital Solitude

Maybe FedEX are bad for it, I've had stuff from dhl and fast way I think it was, they rang once or twice and left it

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,400 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

FedEx are definitely the worst for it. They charge a ridiculous handling fee on top of the tax and it's always via a later a week or so later they never charge at the door like some of the others.

On a happier note, anyone listen to the FM synth episode of retronauts to tie in with the release of the Lagrange Point vinyl soundtrack release. My god that soundtrack is god like but it also made me go back to listen to some PC-88 stuff.

Hitoshi Sakimoto and Yuzo Koshiro did some incredible stuff on that machine, this one by Koshiro is an absolute gem:

I'm pretty sure debt collectors wont go near anything if its under €1000, apperantly between fees etc. its not worth it to them. I cant comfirm how true this is but id say a safe bet is even anything under €500. You'll get a phone call or two but thats it usually. One of my friends bought a engagement ring and had it posted over, they rang him for vat and fees and he just didnt answer his phone and they stopped, that was a few hundred quid aswell.

Plus if they just left it at your door then just say you never got it and it was stolen :)

As a general rule all courier's are bastards when it comes to claiming customs charges. Let them pass it on to debt collectors if they wish. These bullies have no power in this country. They may claim to be able to affect your credit rating here, this is completely false. Ignore to your heart's content
