That is a big mistake, having the cost widely advertised as 5 euro but then throwing VAT and currency fluctuations into the mix. No consumer likes hidden extras thrown in when you go to pay.

It smacks of being less than upfront about the cost, at a time when they need the goodwill of listeners/customers to survive.

Well VAT in Timbuktu is different to VAT here. Theres no way they can advertise a world wide price. Its 5e plus VAT, which they said. No hidden fee.

The website still says "New website coming soon".

It really would have been useful to have it ready for this move.

According to their twitter the website is going to be live from 8am tomorrow.

Patreon is standard way of paying in the podcast world. Although I'm not paying anything till its official

Patreon is fine, I just canceled a sub to a podcast I'd pretty much stopped listening to in anticipation of supporting SC. No issues at all cancelling. Patreon also don't inundate you with emails which is great, actually I don't think I get any from them. I use PayPal to pay the sub, which adds another layer of security and privacy.

To Android users, what Podcast app would you recommend? Soundcloud has been my weapon of choice but, seeing as I'll likely give this a shot for a month at least, I'm gonna need an app of some sort. With a download option ideally.

    Thks.

Just signed up there, you get an RSS code to your email which says you can listen to the extra pods through whatever podcast app you want, including Apple pod app.

Can anyone tell me how I can do this on the iOS app?

I use pocket casts but I assume process is the same for most apps. Just copy the URL from the email and go to the search or add new area of your app, paste it in and hit enter. Should show it then. It has a second captains world service logo on it not the ordinary one.

I guess essentially I get the rest of Feb for free... They are up to 242 Patrons now. Will be interesting to see how many they get to!
Jaykay74, thank you for your pledge of $5.35 per month to Second Captains!

No charge has been placed yet. You've pledged to a "per month" page and will be charged on the 1st of next month.

Just signed up. Relatively painless, was able to add to pocketcasts easy peasy. The patreon website isn't the best on mobile though.

With the URL being sent out for use, I assume there's an element of honour code in ensuring it's not shared, don't be dicks people!

Yeah, that's the thing. They've already said you can use it in any app or device that you use your personalised url on. Hopefully people don't start acting the maggot with it.

I've signed up this morning. Looking forward to seeing how it goes. Would be good to see them get the numbers they need to make it a success.

I signed up yesterday prior to it going live and gave card details etc but when i login it says i'm not supporting any podcasts...i don't know maybe i just signed into setup a pateron account but my intention was to subscribe to SC (I clicked the space to support SC with 5.35 a month) but just doesn't seem to have happened. Bit annoying.

In iOS (just tried on ipad, assume it's identical on iphone):
    1. Open Podcasts app, click the My Podcasts option at bottom
    2. Click the + icon (top left, above the search)
    3. Paste in the URL received from Patreon email

How fast did you get your link when you signed up? It said it would be instant but nothing yet for me

Suspicious is not what I'd call you.

They said several times last week that it would be going live this morning. I'd expect the number to grow throughout the day as people listen to the days releases and are reminded to sign up.
Unless you think it's more likely that Murph has 900 credit cards.

Up to 927 now, and that's before the first podcast of the week, which might remind others. Looks like they'll be doing okay to begin with..

Maybe its like that Breaking Bad plot were Walter got funds for his cancer treatment obstensibly through a gofundme page but it was actually the drug money being filtered through the gofundme...

Been ten mins now and haven't got the link either. I copied the link from the subscription page once my payment went through though.

I got the link straight away too.
They are over 1000 subscribers now. Looks like it is working out ok for them. They just need to deliver the expected quality content now..
