Jesus you'd need to be a right prick to rip them off like that. I'd hope almost no one would.

I can't imagine anyone paying making them available somewhere free. Its a topical podcast too, even a week old and its pretty pointless. Match previews of games you already watched and know the score of

Just FYI, the charge on Patreon is $5.35 (€5.02 today, according to xe.com), but there's VAT on top, so it seems to actually be €6.18 p/m. The lads probably should have highlighted that.

They did on the last podcast. Eoin states 5e per month plus VAT depending where you are in the world.

https://www.patreon.com/posts/join-our-world-7932326 If you look at this list of people pledging on Patreon it's actually the lads themselves.

There's going to be some along different lines though.

That said, their biggest problem for them is that it's probably not going to be that difficult for people to get them without paying anyway.

YOU WOULDN'T DOWNLOAD A CAR, WOULD YOU!?

Are you embarrassed signing up for second captains? you don't even have to use your own name. Silly excuse. Would you not like to show your support.

You don't have to have your pledge visible, either. You can change it in settings.

Christ that's embarrassing if it's correct. Irish people don't like paying for something unless they have no alternative and in this market there is a wide choice of alternatives that are free to air.
Listened to them on NT, watched them occasionally on TV, never listened to any of their podcasts. Some replies here said they'd subscribe because the got so many hours spent listening for free, that was their job and they got paid for it, they're not Mother Theresa!

Replies primarily concerned the podcasts since '13 for which they got/get SFA

That is a big mistake, having the cost widely advertised as 5 euro but then throwing VAT and currency fluctuations into the mix. No consumer likes hidden extras thrown in when you go to pay.

It smacks of being less than upfront about the cost, at a time when they need the goodwill of listeners/customers to survive.

More constructive, I see that now thanks. I'm just not enamored with having to use this Patreon site I've never heard of to do this and I'm not familiar with the workings of it. Maybe there's a good reason they are using it but an explanation on their end of it all would have helped as far as the announcements went. Maybe they'll get into it on Monday.

Yeah, i've zero problem paying for it, but not familiar with this patron business. Something about it makes me uncomfortable.

By the way, I went onto the SC website a few days ago to try and find out is there a way to support them that I have seen before.

It got me to enter my email and said I would be contacted when there was any news. But I've got nothing at all before or since the announcement. Strange.

Also, I don't want to be critical, but they didn't exactly give a whole lot of time for this news to bed in.

Sort of sign up straight away, will yis? approach.

The website still says "New website coming soon".

It really would have been useful to have it ready for this move.

Patreon is a very reputable site, I contribute towards a podcast already through Paypal on Patreon. With the other podcast I subscribe to you have the option of choosing how much you donate a month, it's either €1, €5, €10, €20 or €50. Maybe further payment options would have benefited the lads. The fanboys may pay more than the €5 and more casual listeners could stick with the €1 or €5.

They have said it will go live tomorrow the patreon funding doesn't seem to kick in until 1st March so they are probably launching tomorrow maybe have previews and promoting until 1st March when the podcast becomes paid (except 2 on Monday), Maybe
