Nintendo need to really cut the rubbish and get back to making proper consoles. They haven't had a proper console since the game cube. Wii , U and nw switch are just trying to hard to be alternative and unique when they are just dressed up kids toys.

They have given up completely at ever competing with Sony or Microsoft.

They should just go 3rd party at this rate.

The nes classic is a reminder of how good they once were, the wii U and switch are a symbol of how desperate they have become.

All you guys who keep saying "but it has Zelda" about the tragic launch lineup. Heaven forbid, what if someone doesn't like Zelda or that type of game? I've it preordered on the Wii U, but I know there are many gamers who aren't fans. What's the alternatives? What's there to draw those people in?

The more I think of it, the more i fear that this isn't gonna be much more of a "success" than the Wii u. I hope I'm wrong.

Variety is the spice of life. Where's the shooter, the sports game, the racer, the puzzle game.

If you're a Nintendo fan and LoZ isn't your goto game, well, you'd be talking about me.
I like the series but it isn't the one that I reach for.
Mario Odyssey would be that have tbh.
But, this new entry into the LoZ franchise appears to be trying something new, more akin to the Skyrim action adventure, and it was always going to be a day 1 buy for me.
But most people who will go on to buy a Switch, regardless of if it turns out to sell Wii numbers or WiiU numbers, will do so in 2018 and the years that follow, so the first 2 or 3 months are perhaps not as significant, though the early adopters would disagree.

To those people, I'd recommend waiting to see if the games that they'd enjoy would come later.
There are racers on the way, and sports titles, puzzle games, just not at launch. Binding of Isaac would count as a shooter, albeit not an FPS, it's a rogue-like bullet hell game, at least that was the creators intention with it,with the bosses.

I never understood this argument, I see it everywhere online but cant grasp it? What defines a "proper console"? A 30cm x 25cm x10cm black box equating to the same power as a PS4 or Xbone?

How would this solve anything? There is no mystical group of 40-50m people who really want a "proper" system to play Call of Duty or Battlefield on but aren't that pushed on the PS4 or Xbone!

I hear ye. I just think with all the negativity about the Wii U, Nintendo really needed to be coming out the stalls sprinting on this, making huge statements. Forget about the articles sligeach linked and just do a quick google. "Nintendo Switch". There's a lot of negativity out there. Haters gonna hate but these aren't haters, they are very respected websites such as cnet, eurogamer, Forbes.

Time will tell, and it's all guess work at this stage.

while i share your concerns of it being another flop the 2 things that give me hope it wont be another wii u:

    1) 3rd party devs said the wii u was horrendous to develop for and most developers who have actually had time with the dev kit seem to be saying its so easy to develop for(some even saying its easier than the PS4 and xb1). i mean the snake pass guys said it merely took them 7 days to get the game running on the switch, of course there is optimization and such but that means a lot less effort in creating ports. nintendo have taken it upon themselves to learn the ins and outs of the main 3rd party engines like unreal and have a team of devs who are ready to help any 3rd party dev trying to port it with optimization tricks etc.

    2) nintendo themselves are supporting it far better in year 1 than they did in 2 years of the wii u: botw, mario kart 8, snipperclips, splatoon 2, arms, fire emblem warriors and mario odessey. we already know there will be a full fire emblem game in 2018 and that both the pokemon company and retro studios are working on something for it.

they need to go out and get 3rd party devs developing exclusives for the system pay platnium to make a 3rd beyonetta for example. we know from software are working on something i hope rather than a DS port its a nintendo published DS esque game that is 100% exclusive as that will sell. i believe its been confirmed beyond good and evil 2 is a switch exclusive and is in the works. these are things that will sell the system to people on the fence along with nintendo games. while cod and the likes are hopefully coming to it they wont sell the system if the person thinking of buying it already has a ps4 or xb1 or pc to buy it on (yes i realise thats exactly what wii u owners who want zelda can do but its a much smaller install base). hopefully e3 will showcase more and more for the system. they need to make it the exclusive home of the best indies and the home of jrpgs too as they will both give it a further USP

EDIT: i have 2 friends who didnt buy a wii u buying it at launch 1 guy who since the wii u was announced was saying nintendo should go software only and he seems sold on the idea of the system. another guy is a father whos gaming time is limited but he has 2 hours commute to and from work every day which he loves the idea he can take his games on the go and actually finish some games as he has only finished 2 in the last 12 months due to limited time gaming

Game informer good discussion on botw. Some interesting stuff. May be some stuff some consider spoilers so listen at own risk

Listened to that yesterday morning. Really good discussion. The weather dynamic sounds really interesting.

I can't wait to get my hands on this game.

For many/most gamers though Skyrim and Binding of Isaac are just not going to sell it.
Christ how long have those 2 games been out on PC and other consoles! Play them on the go you say, meh I say. I be plenty of games on my vita, ds etc I can take on the go.
Binding of Isaac is on vita right?

Don't get me wrong Splatoon and new Mario on the go yes please but the launch titles are **** if you ain't into Zelda which is why I'll be waiting.

edit... And don't get me wrong I am looking forward to the switch. Probably more than most as I have a 4 year old that think will really take to the small controls etc.. Just not yet. Xmas 2017.

I can't believe in this day and age there are still console vs console debates.

It's a very simple breakdown for me and has been for a while. Nintendo systems for Nintendo games. PS4 (or PC if I had one) for everything else. If both of these areas interest you, buy both consoles. If you can only afford one, buy the one which interests you the most. This isn't difficult.

There are two particular arguments which keep coming up which don't hold water. Firstly while you could argue that Nintendo has the better exclusives, they don't have the Witcher, GTA, Dark Souls, Fallout etc. so those third party games may as well be exclusive to the PS4. This 'Exclusive' tag is completely over emphasized.

Secondly is people getting irate at the Switch's launch line-up. Don't like the releases? Don't buy the console. On the other hand, buy the console and enjoy Zelda. Then wait a couple of weeks to pick up Fast RMX. Wait another few weeks to pick up the definitive version of Mario Kart 8. A short while after will see the release of Lego City Undercover which needs to be played by all. Splatoon 2 soon follows and then Mario Liberty City at the end of the year.

If I wasn't a Wii U owner I would be all over this. For now I will take the wait and see approach, especially since the 3DS is still releasing great titles.

I remember the Wii benefiting because it was so different to the PS3/Xbox 360 that it ended up being most people's second console. Everyone has a Wii and one of the other two.

Maybe the Wii U felt too similar to the Wii and couldn't break out the same way. I feel the portable Switch might give it another shot at being everyone's #2 the same way the Wii was.

Watching kids TV this morning. Every ad break had a minimum of 1 Nintendo ad. Pokemon SuMo, Mario Maker, Yoshi and Poochy's Woolly World - all fair game recent releases - and tonnes of ads for Tamofeckindachi life. They're pushing a 2 year old 3ds game like Sisyphus on crack but not a sausage of Switch or BotW or even 1 2 Switch.... God damn it Ninty! 3 weeks!

And can all you Rockerfellers with infinite cabinet space pipe down about your second consoles? Some of us are committed monogamists

When I get the switch I'll have just it and my steam link under the TV. Reckon they'll be a great combo

this thread has been very hard to read over the last few days so much back and forward bickering. I've been hovering over the unsub button
its pointless same things happens with the xbox or the ps4
for some reason people in the internet love to bash something

people canceling a preorder over a game console not having a web browser please you were never going to be getting the console if that bothers you
    so much

anyway 19 days until switchmas i'm still looking forward to it
still awaiting and hoping gamestop do a midnight lanuch for it

i see the switch becoming a great console for indie games which is excellent
from my point of view as i would much perfer to play a nice indie game lying in bed

I wonder if we'll get stuff like FTL, digital crack on the go.

I'd love to see Darkest Dungeon and Sunless Sea too, just don't like them at the PC I'd play them more on a portable.

Oh and Rocket League. Every console should have a rocket League port

Rogue Legacy, Enter the Gungeon, Salt & Sanctuary, Hyper Light Drifter, Furi, Thumper.... so many great potential portable games.

You're aware the Wii U has a massive indie selection and can be played in bed....right?

Mine can't. The Gamepad loses connection at about 15 feet away.

Really?! Christ. Some major interference between them? Should work up to 27 feet away. Never had a problem with mine.

If it's just in bed you wanna use it however, just move the console to a nearer location

Ah, it doesn't bother me too much. I don't like the gamepad screen all that much anyway. Just a little disappointed with the range initially.

No idea what's causing it. I'll be retiring the Wii U soon so no big deal anyway.

Oh and Rocket League. Every console should have a rocket League port

Even though I really, really would love a Rocket League port, and while I know many people play it to a pretty high level with digital inputs so everything (Kb+M players on the PC mostly), it'd probably be the game mostly likely to annoy me with the digital inputs having been so used to it with the Steam, XbOne and PS4 controllers already. While I'd still probably play it a hell of a lot, especially with being able to carry it around with me, the controllers with the Switch would already likely have me rank it as the worst version of the game by quite a bit.

Shame too as it reminds me that I was looking forward to the possibility of Project CARS, or its sequel, coming to the then NX when they cancelled the Wii U version of the first game, with the devs stating they were very interested in porting it to whatever the NX would turn out to be.

Can't see any steering wheel+pedal accessories coming at any point for the Switch, so it does make me quite sad that there likely won't be a decent racer above any arcade level on the console at all. While most of my sim racing would have still been on the PC, would have been nice to still get some things on the Switch too whilst I'd be travelling long distances.

Could be a 3rd party one. Like there is a 3rd party fight stick on the way

My cousin works in local media in London and unknown to me he attended the Switch event. These arrived here yesterday.

I need FZero and hopefully the still to be announced Dark Souls trilogy will be coming, the third game in the series is apparently working just fine on the Switch hardware.
The trilogy hasn't been announced on any system as yet, so my fingers are crossed

    With regard to driving games
I'd say don't count the system out just yet, the Wii had a few decent efforts, the Ferrari titles being a few.
The lack of analogue triggers is a problem but the right analog stick might help, or at least be adapted as the analog register for a throttle brake setup.
I'm hoping to see Waverace and 1080° being brought to the Switch, as well as Pilotwings.

If N64 and GC games come, then there's 2 F-Zero games! Not as good as a new one of course.
