Both the Xbox One and PS4 have all these multimedia apps but guess what, neither plays Nintendo games.

That's what I am buying the Switch for!

Look i am one who does not care if it has apps.

    ITS A GAMES CONSOLE.

If i wont to go on the internet i go use my phone or laptop. The phone is with all people at all times.

Netflix who cares. ITs on my smart TV and other games consoles.

I wont it to play games thats it and i am happy :)

Would this be the other consoles that have all this functionality like browser, Blu-ray, Netflix, online that doesn't require you to jump through hoops, is cheaper, more powerful, has a bigger library of games, etc, etc? It's another negative against the Switch, like it or not. This has been reported all over the net including Irish websites.

I value a browser on Nintendo consoles and a lot of other people do too. I'm sure it will turn up at some point, just like it'll be cheaper in price eventually. First impressions count for a lot though.

Lads a browser is about as useful on a console as a bloody handle.

Generally speaking, yes. But a console in the form factor of a tablet and designed to be taken on the go? I could see that being rather useful indeed.

Nah, sorry I couldn't disagree more. Although I did use the Gamecube handle a few times.

If it doesn't have a browser, then won't that make connecting to some free wifi hotspots a nightmare?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,431 ✭✭✭MilesMorales1

Free wifi hotspots are a nightmare to connect to even on an iphone or 3DS.

it will have a browser on it but initially but yeah it will make it annoying a temporary work around until the browser comes, which could be a week or month, could be connect to wifi using your phone and then use your phone as a hotspot. i imagine i will use my phones 4g unlimited data when out and about as a hotspot anyway cause its probably going to be faster than most free hotspots. i do that with my phone anyway and from time to time when my home wifi is acting up i have used it for my pc to play online and that worked very well

I would have liked a browser on it for sure and would have been nice to have it from the start, if it's a deal breaker for some not to buy it then fair enough but I don't really see why it would be, a month before release. It sounded from Kimishima's comments that there wasn't a big use of it on the Wii U. I hope of course they do put one on but it's a small thing compared to the uncertainty about the online etc, that hopefully they'll clear up soon. I think the price for the Switch is fine as well, it's well in line with other consoles at launch and in some cases less, anyone expecting €250/£200 were creating their own disappointment to be honest. The pricing of the accessories is a much more valid complaint imo.

Hopefully Netflix is put on it in the near future to watch the Castlevania TV series announced today

Your iPhone might need repair, I connect to wifi hotspots with no hassle at all.

Connecting to the free ones outside the house which require a million different things to connect to them are a hassle.

Eh no that's not true, although I've never owned an Apple phone but I doubt it's much different to android.

    Strange deflection

See, I don't play online much. But I know others do and thats perfectly ok, its a reasonable thing to want given other platforms in the competitive market have it so I don't take the piss out of them when the uncertainty around the online features causes them anxiety...

Okay, I'm putting the browser thing to bed, climbing in beside it and gently spooning till the morning.

PS, I quoted your post for convenience, not to target you for a relatively benign comment. When the Browsites triumph and the others go to The Camps I will keep you as a pet or custodial staffer.

    Banjo you're a weird guy.

    Do you have a blog?

If not you should stream and just talk, that's some tasty verbal diarrhoea.

He usually makes some good points, just takes a while to decipher them. Other times I think he's just talking to himself. :pac:

This place wouldn't be the same without his posting, or sligeach's for that matter. :)

    Quoted for emphasis.

This genuinely is a great little community we have here, and I've loved being part of it. The best thing about it is how we can disagree on various things, and still remain civil. It's a very rare occasion (or the occasional troll post) that things do get dragged down a bit, but these are seldom, thankfully!

This thread is full of disagreements, and is far from an echo chamber, which is wonderful, as it's exactly what keeps it vibrant and fresh. Yet we still all get along, with a little gentle ribbing from time to time, and well thought out arguments at others. And bad jokes all over the place.

I wouldn't switch you guys for any other forum... :pac:

Two of the best guys round here, for my money.

Totally agree, great bunch of people altogether in this forum.

Interesting, Nintendo say they may "consider" making existing Wii/WiiU controllers compatible with the Switch in the future.
    Linky dink
Personally, I reckon that Nintendo are anxious to starve the notion that the Switch has anything in common with the Wii/WiiU lineup, aside from updates to existing WiiU titles popping up during the early months of the new console.
If they published material and photos showing the Switch working with WiiU Pro controllers it'd be the only things the haters would post, in an effort to stymie the system before it's launched.
At the very least, it would tie the Switch to the unsuccessful WiiU system and damage the new brand.
