My better half has just decided we're going to Lanzarote at the end of Match.

It's only just dawned on me how f*ckin amazing this system is going to be!

Kimishima has said, as has been thought, that Switch won't have a browser on launch. Might be disappointing for some but I suspect for most it won't make any difference with so many devices now, apparently the browser on the Wii U took up half the system memory to implement while still being pretty poor. The fear of exploit as well would be a factor, but it could easily be put on with an update in the future of course. May be added of course later. Kimishima also hinted that they studied usage statistics on it and figured it didn't have that big of a take up on the Wii U. He also stated that support for other controllers may be included in a future update.

He also hinted that information about the eShop may be forthcoming soon i.e. a form of direct perhaps? I think they need to clear a few things up for sure.

I remember having a browser on the dreamcast and thinking it was great because pcs were expensive.

But since then everything has a browser. I've never once used the browser on my tv, xbox, playstation, wii u or handhelds. Too easy to whip out the phone and check things there.

So after doing a little searching it seems that Binding of Isaac cost €5 when it was originally released. It seems like the publishers are just profiteering on the launch of a new console if it is really going for €45 on the Switch.

Binding of Isaac was originally a flash game (currently €5) and was rewritten from the ground up (Binding of Isaac Rebirth - €15). They added lots of content to it, then released Afterbirth (€11) which is a massive DLC pack with over 1000 new room layouts, new modes, new levels, new bosses and lots of other content. Then they released Afterbirth+ (€10) with hundreds more rooms, new levels, new bosses, new weapons, a level editor (etc. etc. -- you get the idea).

What we're getting on Switch is the full game - Isaac Rebirth, Afterbirth and Afterbirth+. If you buy it all on Steam, it'll cost you €36. If you get into it, it's HUNDREDS of hours of gameplay.

To dismiss it as a €5 game is naive at best. It's a day 1 purchase for me.

4 new TV commercials for the Switch from Japan

    Breath of the Wild

1,2 Switch (more live testimonials than an ad)

    Splatoon 2

    Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Was formulating the above post as I was reading, thanks for saving me the hassle.

The Binding of Issac in physical form for €45 is really great value for all you'll get from it if you like the game, it's not even close to the level of taking the piss some companies pull with games. Stuff like Arkham Knight on PC, Konami in general or that there have been a handful of new, good AAA games this generation, with the rest being remakes. There are much bigger problems with the industry than that

Those who have pre-ordered will always defend their purchase.

It's a boring back and forth at this stage.

    ---

I've pre-ordered because I want this console to do well, I'm on the go a lot which helps increase my gaming time, new Zelda (short sighted reason perhaps but still... It's Zelda), it genuinely looks like a solid piece of kit and because I am excited about this console.

I've got my concerns like most and the questions I have are not as yet answered but my excitement is over ruling my concerns right now. Could be blind optimism on my part but I want to believe that this console can truly succeed and be great.

The internet is a funny place at times. You can always find a post/article that backs up your opinion on nearly every topic.

There's probably a hundred reasons why I shouldn't have pre-ordered and paid off my Switch but there's equally 100 reasons why I'm probably justified in doing so.

Good video that, nice and clear. Seems a bit late to be releasing it a few weeks before the launch but better late than never I guess.

Wonder will that share button be able to record video down the line and not just take screenshots.

Also, no mention of the touchscreen - afraid they'll confuse the audience or the audience will start comparing it to a tablet?

is it really late? i mean anyone who was gonna buy it day one watched the presentation and such and it was clear enough in that. this will help casuals and parents who may buy it when its back in stock in the months that follow

I still got an email last night from Gamestop saying to preorder the Switch.

And think they said before that they plan on allowing video sharing functionality later

Ooh a share button. Sounds like it must include social media functionality early on, like PSN share does.

I have a Grey Switch paid off in GameStop...
I'm toying with the idea of switching it (no pun intended) to a Neon Red/Blue....
    Which colour are people getting??

Neon all the way. I don't know what it is about it exactly, more nintendo like and playful I guess.
I do have a second set of grey joycon ordered though, so I get both looks :D

Yeah I'm leaning towards the Neon... I wonder will GameStop let me change or will that throw me to the back of the line... thereby not being guaranteed one at launch...

Guess it depends on stock available. The fact it's already paid off might help though

Have a Neon Blue/Red ordered in Smyths as it seems to be the more rare SKU.
And have a set of the opposite Red/BLue joy cons ordered too so can go all blue or all red.

The Blue/Red consoles are sold out online on Gamestop and Amazon, only the grey SKU can now be pre ordered.

Good video, confirms that a battery pack can charge it that was a little unclear from the earlier presentations.

Hardly late, the main audience for that video is the people who'll pick one up post-day-one launch.

Nintendo mentioned in the Switch's reveal presentation in January that video capture was coming in a later software update.

There was no mention of touch screen as Nintendo see it as a secondary control. The menu will be accessed by analogue stick and or touch screen (I assume) but it's not too important. I see it being used more in games like it was on the 3DS.

Late in the sense it's the first video from Nintendo I can recall showing clearly what the Switch hardware is all about. As I said, it's a good video.

It would be nice for them to go and make the same kind of video about their online service, VC and this mobile app - clear details from the horse's mouth.

Re: the touchscreen, I just figured it would be mentioned at some point as that might attract more folks to it.

"And in terms of the Internet browser, since all of our efforts have gone toward making Switch an amazing dedicated video game platform, it will not support it, at least at launch." - Nintendo President, Tatsumi Kimishima.
    raw

With every passing day more and more information emerges that further cements in my mind that I won't be picking the Switch up at launch.

You were never getting this at launch.

I have many devices to browse the internet on. I don't want to do that on the Switch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 980 ✭✭✭hairball

Don't particularly care if they never implement a browser. As long as eshop and VC are set up correctly.
Browsing on consoles and tvs is usually annoying as hell anyway.
I want a games machine not a media box

Bull$h1t! You can't say that. I've had it pre ordered with Gamestop since before the presentation. Everything in that and since has put me right off it. It's not what I wanted or was expecting. I'll get it eventually but it could be in a year now.

I have 3 web browsers (on my Wii/PS3/Xbox 360) I'm not using if you want to borrow one. Like new, barely used :p

emmmm the presentation was a video which clearly showed it. as was the original video.

i fully expect a direct which will detail online and vc and such in the next month or so.

as for the touch screen i think they are not focusing on it as its something that can only be used in handheld mode so not a major feature perhaps
