Why does Murray kick possession away so often?
He kicked the ball eight times. That's hardly 'often' is it?

I thought Heaslip passed the ball to a Scottish player (fairly late on) with a try begging.

    Did that not happen?

    Was it someone else?

Murray blocked a kick with his legs, ran forward passed to Heaslip and Henshaw came a bit too close.

Instead of trying to recycle the ball, Heaslip tried to offload to Henshaw, who wasn't there any more.

Heaslip also gave away 2 late penalties.

Did loads good though in the rest of the game.

If it was the one to Henshaw a few metres from the Scottish line then I thought the offload was on. Henshaw was just behind him but he slipped and fell. If Henshaw hadn't slipped, that probably would have been a try.

    No heart.
    Men against boys.
Beaten by the better team who wanted it more, no shame in that.
Talks of being 4th in the world etc is pie in the sky stuff.

Dont know much about Rugby - but watch it.

It seems to be always the same - we win a big match and the Irish Rugby team is over talked ?

Anyone who knows a bit ? - do we lack power and pace out wide - watching England and France far more power and pace. Why did Ireland think we were going anywhere ?

It looked to me as though we badly missed Jared Payne defensively today.

We seriously lack a game breaker in the backs like Hogg.

We didn't match the Scottish intensity at the breakdown in the 1st half

    The lineout was a mess

    Much work to be done.

Off loading to a Scottish player and getting isolated when Barclay turned him over.
To be fair to Heaslip, he was popping it to Henshaw who'd called for it and then slipped. Henshaw seemed to be wearing banana boots today, he slipped an unusual number of times. That time he slipped, he got up and slipped again (although I think Paddy ran into him too).

If Henshaw had kept his feet, he had that ball and could have been in. The other option was for Heaslip to take the tackle and recycle, but Robbie clearly called for it.

you can dress it up how you like but scotland are an average team and the 23 we sent out today as a unit were average.
That is the harsh reality that no hammering of italy or beating a very average french team in dublin will change.

For me Ireland are average, for example, for every great performance like in the win against australia in the autumn there is a performance like in the loss to france in 2016 6 nations.

Even today first half some dreadful defending especially from rob kearney followed in the second half with some good play.

Think you might need to watch that play again. Scottish player covered across and Henshaw had already checked his run for Heaslip. It was poor awareness from Heaslip.

Which were Heaslip's errors? Games a bit of a blur to me now

The offload to Scotland under their posts and giving away the last penalty by playing the ball on the ground.

We might have a game-breaker once Aki qualifies.

Really like Heaslip, but annoying to give away the penalty where they got the lead by just not rolling. A really poor mistake at a crucial time in the match by an experienced and normally reliable player.

    That was against Paddy Jackson?

Nope, watched it a few times. Henshaw slipped twice. He got up, but was too far back and either slipped again or Paddy ran into him.

He definitely slipped when he went to go a bit wider to take the offload. That's what cost him the yards that you're calling 'checked his run'.

Is there any word on Johnnie coming back?

I never really rated him personally but the difference he makes to a Leinster side is unbelievable.

Yeah, I should know this.. so feel free to blast me with mouthwash...

on days like this - I realise how valuable Johnny Sexton still is to Irish rugby - minus Payne we needed someone to organise defense - bad day all round

Oh, guess I have to look back at it, just my initial impression was that it was Heaslip as I saw him lying there pretty motionless. Either way, pretty frustrating penalty after working our way into the lead.

Fair play to Scotland, but jaysus that was winnable
Thought Heaslip was our best forward - but heygave away silly penalty at the end (May have been Jackson) and maybe should have held the ball but in fairness Henshaw slipped so it was on when he checked - was unfortunate
Bowe is an Irish legend but shouldn't be NEAR the Irish Squad unfortunately
Kearney was meh. And meh should not be good enough for the Irish 15 jersey (I know I know, Not Another Kearney debate blah blah blah)
CJ, Earls and Ringrose rather disappointing overall also - they're better than how they performed today
I'll admit I was screaming for Marmion to come on at the end - Murray seemed fecking wrecked by 70th min
Didn't take advantage of our scrum dominance - few times we went for the 5m lineout when a scrum may have brought better reward (I know we traditionally get a good return on 5m lineouts)

    Roll one Italy :)

This 'very average french team' are giving England a serious run for their money

Stander could be under pressure for the jersey next week. He grew into the game in the second half but was anonymous in the first.

In fairness you could replace Stander in that post with ANY Irish player and it'd stand.

That one was Jackson. Heaslip gave away the very last one by playing the ball on the deck.

    You've never rated him? Strange

Anyway he might be back next week, should definitely be back for France.

It wasn't chase able, the hang time was awful and down to Murray being tired. Failure to use the bench again
What you say so correct and so frustrating. Joe has his players and the others simply dont exist.

What a monumental f@ck up today. Please Joe, feel the pain of us. Please start playing rugby. Please

The BBC called it as Heaslip being penalised for not rolling away. I didn't hear the ref.

As they did the all blacks a couple of months ago. They are playing better rugby.

Also, Scotland should have beaten Australia the last two times they played them....they're not that bad a side.

I'd forgive him the penalty, he was desperate for a turn over. Paddy and Trimble were totally at fault.

Feck, poor Trimble never gets a break. The poor guy is sitting at home on his sofa and he still finds himself copping flak!
