Red hair and general air of being a loser/in love with a woman who hates red hair are pretty in at the moment, Millennials love that crap. Gavin James etc. etc.

The Coronas are successful in the UK?

Yeah they're not huge or anything but they've had tours there that sold well. They aren't huge in Ireland either though and are mainly a support act for bigger artists.

I dunno folks, there must be something to him because he exists in an industry that's build on boybands, girl bands, ex Disney stars and fake rappers!

As many have said, he's not much to look at, his voice is average and song writing is beneath even Gary barlow.

Are we to assume a sup par, ginger busker has done a david blane and hypnotised the world??

Fook sake, could it be that he's a decent person, who has time for most fans and his music therefore seems heartfelt?? he seems genuine too unlike the bono's, Jay z's, tailor swifts and Kanye's of this world. they love money and would eat their young to get it. They smack of arrogance and self entitlement, bleeding self enriched clowns. He has a shelf life alright, and I personally wouldn't be cooing over his music but I can see why people would enjoy his songs, a bit like David gray

Why not, it worked for Ginger from the wildhearts and he rocked the world without being such a sap.

Yes, but have you seen anyone who is actually excellent live to compare against?
Rammstein, Iron Maiden and heck even Baby Metal put on a great show and aren't some dull plinky plonky "woe is me" "I'm such a tortured soul" acoustic singer/songwriter nicey nice butter wouldn't melt sort. If you want an excellent Irish show, go see kerbdog next time they play or sultans of ping!
Crikey, if acoustic gigs are what floats your boat, go to therapy? in whelans in April.
You'll never listen to Ed sheeran again afterwards

Who says that person wouldn't hate all the acts you mentioned?

Me personally I've gone to see Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold, Metallica, Michael Buble, Ed Sheeran, Bruce Springsteen, Ne-Yo, rock festivals, alternative music festivals, rap concerts, acoustic shows and many more different styles of music and I have enjoyed most of them all for different reasons. I've never said oh Metallica were class I am never going to go to a Michael Buble concert again.

Yeah, the amount of people who say he's average probably don't know what a loop pedal is, let alone have ever attempted to do what Ed does with it.

He's clearly musically talented. He can compose an entire song, percussion, backing vocals, rythm etc all on his own. Not a lot of that knocking around the place, folks.

I've never seen one man on his own command a stage so well as him.

I was referring to radio in Ireland. Are you the drummer in any of the bands mentioned?

Ever heard radio abroad? They're playing the same stuff.

Lived in Netherlands for a while. Airwaves full of bland easy listening, progressive rock stuff.

Ireland's music scene much more vibrant.

However, pop acts like Ed Sheeran, will have always have mass appeal due to the taste nowadays for men weeping over their acoustic guitar.

    Don't do that. Please.

I always tell people who don't like him to watch the first song on this video if they want to understand why people do. This is him playing live in Vicar Street. We all have our own tastes, but I don't know how anyone could watch this, see him building the whole song on a loop pedal live on stage, and deny the guy is talented.

His music does absolutely nothing for me but cause irritation. But, sure, if it floats your boat...

I don't get it, but I see music as a highly overrated genre of art/entertainment so maybe i just don't get it period. I don't get most of Radiohead as well.

have you actually read them? you describe a song about a drug addict as soft, soppy lyrics?

Even the nursery rhyme "You are my sunshine" is darker than that fraud of a lyric. Look it up if you don't believe me.

If you want songs about drugs, I can point you to thousands of albums worth and they're a lot more meaningful when the songwriter has first hand experience of succumbing to their addictions.
Even limiting myself to the acoustic stuff, try Conor Oberst / Bright eyes out. He has a world weary view of life and more talent in his little finger than Ed sheeran could ever hope to attain.

I've never seen any of them live but I'm sure there are other musicians on stage with most of them during their gigs.
When he's up there it's just him and his guitar and his loop pedal.

Because it's hard to do. Lots of people do it, badly though. It's not easy to get it spot on, so I admire him for that.

Please. thats just a typical "my lover has left me and i'm so sad" song. As dark as a 100W bulb.

I've seen Iron Maiden live 3 times. I've seen Ed live 8 and got tickets for number 9. He is an amazing live performer. Have you seen Ed Sheeran live yourself to make that comparison?

"And we're all under the upper hand
Go mad for a couple grams
And we don't want to go outside tonight
And in a pipe we fly to the Motherland
Or sell love to another man
    It's too cold outside
    For angels to fly
    Angels to fly
    To fly, fly
For angels to fly, to fly, to fly
    For angels to die"

It's not exactly Heroin by The Velvet Underground.

That's just opinion though, and there are plenty of classic musicians who created masterpieces in their early 20s.

just your typical soppy lyrics from a boyband wannabe

    White lips, pale face
    Breathing in snowflakes
    Burnt lungs, sour taste
    Light's gone, day's end
    Struggling to pay rent
    Long nights, strange men

Are you missing something??? Yes you obviously are.

To say that he is untalented is beyond a ridiculous statement. The lad is in his mid 20's and he sells out arenas all across the globe with just him and a guitar.
He constantly has number ones in the charts and his albums are extremely successful.

And to say he's not a good song writer just says that you haven't listened to a single song he has written because at the moment he is one of the best songwriters of this generation.

    Very highly talented lad.

Birds goin on about how good looking he is. A fat ginger lad with kinda froggy eyes, wonder would they say that if he worked in Tesco

I'm not a fan of Ed Sheeran but he's undisputedly talented.

However, +1,000,000 to the above comment. He is objectively an average-looking guy. But riches and status do wonders for menfolk. ;)

No, none of that was knocking around well before Ed came along, except it's just a completely different genre of music:

    Jesus, that's brutal.

It's like he stole a 13 year old girl's diary and based a career on it.
