Why do you care if they lose listeners? if they lose a few listeners who think Trump is a good idea then I doubt the lads will be too bothered. Would surely make the live shows a bit bearable for them, not having to mix with those sort of folk!

On topic: I enjoyed Jonathan Wilson's tales of Gabon in today's football show. Very interesting and shocker!, not 100% sports related!

Whatever it is I think they should leave it out of their sports show as they will lose listeners imo.

    Not many I'd say

I'm enjoying the Trump bashing but it might get tiresome after 4 years.

I wouldn't mind a "current affairs" type pod from the Second Captains though. Maybe 1 hour a week. Or just let Ken ramble for a while.

It would need to be more balanced, right now it's just the typical media response of Trump is a bad man sure did ya not hear what he said about the illegal immigrants bla bla bla. The lads are just Trump bashing and calling Americans stupid. That will get tiresome real quick. No mention of why the markets are soaring since Trump got elected??? Getting a rid of the unaffordable Obama care??? Obviously that doesn't suit their agenda. No problem with them slaging him off aslong as it's balanced and fair. Right now they should have the Pat Kenny cheap shot playing every time he gets mentioned.

It doesn't need to be anything, least of all what you demand of it. You don't have to listen to it. You're free to start your own podcast, if you feel your views are not properly catered to.

They don't need to be balanced and fair about anything. They are giving opinions, however valid or not they are. It's all just opinions.

Yes, we did hear what he said about immigrants. And women. And climate change.

Bla bla bla? Can you not see how the most powerful man in the world being racist might be a real problem?

It's not a problem for some, though, which may explain a lot of their problem with this podcast.

It was me that said I'm terrified. Maybe a slight exaggeration, but only slight.

We're not even a full week in and it's somehow even worse than anyone could have expected.

There's no master plan. It wasn't all just an act to get elected. He isn't going to surround himself by competent people.

Between issuing executive orders he has literally spent the week watching Fox News and Tweeting.

And it's only starting to occur to me that he actually believes his own lies. Not only does he care deeply whether his inauguration attendance was the largest ever, but he actually genuinely believes it was.

And this is the carefully choreographed first week that he's been planning for months. Wait until he starts winging it.

It's insane. And he's not going to come to his senses and resign.

Only a cretin would be unconcerned by this.

Interesting overlap between the latest SC Football and Guardian Football Weekly with Jonathan Wilson talking about African Cup in both. You'd have to say Ken dug deeper than Richardson...

ah yes; the entirely rational and knowledgeable "markets". All hail the markets.

He's defo got a personality disorder of some kind but whether he's actually nuts I'm not so sure. I still think he is speaking the language of those that vote for him. When he says the media is corrupt & bias he is just saying what his voters believe. Then again the voter fraud thing. Not sure even his voters believe that.

You need to realise that what they mean by 'fraud' here, i.e. non-white/non-right-wing people voting, regardless of actual legal entitlement.

Yeah, SC are more likely to go in depth on pretty much any topic.

From what I hear on the pod Football Weekly are excoriated as being anti-Arsenal/Liverpool/Fitba/Championship on "the blog" if they don't make room for every insignificant story. Football Weekly tend more to the news end of things, though there's still analysis and opinion.
Second Captains will often go a Monday football pod and only cover one or two on the premiership games relying more on opinion and analysis. Football Weekly will always cover all of the EPL results, though probably not in much depth for many of them.
Plenty of room for both styles and personally I wouldn't bother with both if they were the same.

Catching up on the week's pods.

While I found the discussion at the start of Monday's regular pod (about that alt-right dude) very interesting, I totally get why some were saying it went on too long. That was a segment that was, IMO, very out of place.

I think it's a consequence of them only have ~4 hours a week. If they were on every day, you'd expect them to mention the big stories of the day every now and then, but in an hour long pod I think they need to curb it a bit and go more in depth into the sports stuff, maybe even do an extra segment if the two they have weren't long enough and just have a quick chat at the start.

I would agree with posters saying constant political stuff will get tiresome. However, I think the "The election was 2 months ago, get over it." argument is silly, given that Monday was their first pod after he actually became President. Likelihood is, as the initial storm dies down, things'll settle back to normal.

Ken's a guest on the latest Arseblog podcast.
Time now for this week’s Arsecast, and to chat about the Premier League title race, China, the rampant commercialism of the game, player hashtags, Arsenal’s season, and tons more is Ken Early from Second Captains. It’s a fairly in-depth chat.

Yeah but I don't 3 hacks on a sports show pontificating their opinions on the matter.

    Obviously!

I like listening for the sports analysis not their political views.

I just don't get people whining about free media they are being provided with, between this and the NTN critics (Sean !!!) I don't know why anyone bothers putting out free stuff for people. Listen, enjoy, be thankful..

Way of the world..GAA players play for free in front of huge crowds and people feel very inclined to insult their ability.

Is this a forum for discussion or is it just a forum for positive comments and glowing tribute only?
There is nothing wrong with critiquing the content and still enjoying the podcast.
It's an excellent production all round, one I'd pay for in fact.
I just wish Ken would drop his Una Mulally tribute act. Perhaps he will in time.

Ah now, whatever about the polticial content and leanings of the show - I haven't the patience to get involved in that back and forth - it would be a fairly dull forum if we couldn't say what we thought of the show.

I actually like the Trump talk. But I also have a skip button on my podcast player, it skips 30 seconds at a time. Amazing feature. I skip past the GAA all the time.

Should we read into the fact the podcast feed is now "The Second Captains Podcast" and has dropped the Irish Times from its title...
