Shop around. Try Axa for starters. Anecdotally, they seem to be omparatively competitive compared to some of the other larger insurers.

"Are insurance companies completely taking the piss now?"

"Now" would suggest that you think this is some sort of recent thing?

An insurance group (like in the UK) would sort this out. Though they have one, its a makey up one. and they never tell you what class your vehicle is in, except to say its in a higher group!

The only way around this is an independent body/website that stores everyones quotes/ cars, personal differences. Then and only then can you call them out on irregular trading.
eg two carpenters from exact same estate in finglas driving exact same car with same details and one charged more than the other for a change of vehicle...
Then you state your a gay buddist carpenter! lol

So my own car decided to start dying on me last week. It's a 03 Opel Vectra GTS 1.8. I'm paying Allianz 1500 a year to drive the thing as I need a car for work. 29 and a full license since 2006 but there you go. Anyways I went to Cork yesterday to pick up a new car I bought. Tis a 03 Vectra GTS pretty much exactly the same as my old one. The only difference was the colour and the much lower milage. Same car, year, engine, everything. When I was there I rang the insurance company to change over the insurance, thinking because it's the exact same car it'd be a straight swap. But nooooo. I had to pay 90 euro because my old car was a GTS sport and my new one was a GTS Elegance. So I was charged more for different spec, even though both cars are identical. You'd say something if it had a higher bhp or something but the differences are only cosmetic. What is it with insurance companies in this country fleecing us?

because they've jumped on the same band waggon as the "government" knowing that the "government" wont do **** about it. nearly every corporation in this country is at it, its designed to be like this, to put you under enough stress that you'll just give in an obey their demands. even if its extortion & illegal they'll still do it because they know they'll get away with it without any questions.
also, Irish people are stupid for putting up with it. but yet they still think that their "free". nobody is free in this world when you have evil twisted murdering child abusing sick f*cks like them in this world.

mr. enda pr*ck face Kenny should be tried for tyranny & treason as far as I'm concerned.

There's a crowd called it's 4women or just4women or something. Is that not illegal now?

The more pertinent question is why we let the FIRE industry (Finance, Insurance, and Real Estate) take the piss out of us all?

When AIB, and it will be when not if, overcharge their customers again and get caught out, I'd love to see not only a fine from the regulator, but also a class action suit from the thousands of customers that get overcharged on the basis that they have breached their fiduciary duty.

In terms of car insurance, keep shopping around is all I can suggest.

Honestly I was lurking just waiting, this is close enough.

Insurance companies themselves have said fraudulent claims cost the average Joe about €50 a year in premiums. Don't take the easy option of trying to lay the blame on anything other than them being greedy bar-stewards.

Besides Lawyers are fecking amazing this week and I don't want to see that spoiled.

Sounds like a deleted chapter from the King James bible. Every year the insurance lords travel to Basel and meet in secret in an ancient building that used to be a bank. They all sit along a massive table and wait for the head honcho of the global insurance cartel to appear with his robe and top hat to read a few verses from the book of quantum

Yes, and if there are any trace substances in there, you'll get a real bill.
