Had Today FM on in the car last week.

    Under Today FM it said

    EXPECT SOMETHING DIF

The display on the car radio obviously only allows a certain number of characters

Given the recent changes, I'd say its EXPECT SOMETHING DIFFICULT ON THE EARS

Listening to Today FM here - but already I'm dreading that giddy, hysterical, breathless f***wit Nick Webb after six. Comes across as poorly researched and lacking in credibility. Who on earth would think that that's a good item?

Guess to keep Matt interested instead of them throwing on nonsensical stories like the babestation one last week- I can see today fm trying to put in more 'youth' related stories like X factor and katdashian type stuff to try to 'attract' younger listeners

oh i have to agree, it seems like the idea is to do the business news in a show biz style, it comes across as totally lacking credibility and very diluted, very often you will hear him saying "buuuuckets of cash" in a drawn out D4 accent as opposed to giving actual researched figures, however, at the same time, cooper had a guy on a while back as a replacement, some business professor or something and he would bore the pants off you, so much so that cooper was distracted by something else and practically cut yer man off....last week Webb stated that Ryanair were getting rid of cabin baggage which was false and Ryanair contacted the last word to clarify the situation, not for the first time Webb had it wrong, I think he gets the business news off RTE Junior and rehashes it on the last word...i'd love to know how much Webb is getting from Todayfm because its the handiest money he will ever get....buuuuuuuckets of cash

Normally like the Ian Dempsey show, but listening to a show when the presenters are all on a ski holiday is a bit meh. Holiday slots might work well on TV but on radio, I don't think so.

That's the word, I was trying to describe him last week and that's the word I was looking for.:)

I haven't listened to the last word much recently, so are they trying to make it sound younger without throwing the baby out with the bathwater so to speak ? Like when 2fm replaced larry gogans 60s/80s music playlist with a late 00s music playlist

    Too much Trump
Not enough decent interviews with interesting people
The sport segments are gone to tosh with that cyclist fella.

Not enough critical analysis of the news by people who actually know what they are talking about

And what's with the 5 at 5 where they have a chat about the news instead of just giving the news?!

I totally agree, I never see the point in this skiing trip, the production values are shocking and its like we are all over here having a whale of a time but you cant see us and your stuck at home in your daily commute, its pointless..

Do not talk to me about that feckin paul kimmage, can someone please please tell me what the hell is the point in bringing him in for an hour every monday??? he knows nothing about sport except for rabbiting on about doping in cycling and now hes trying to ruin rugby saying its full of doping, i'm sick of him, one day they had him on to talk about a rugby game and he admitted he hadnt even watched it, now what is the point in paying a guy to come in and he isnt even prepared.... every time a question is put to him he goes "well theres a good piece from journalist x (normally a mate of his) in x paper today and then he proceeds to read out the column, for feck sake if i want to hear that i will buy the damn paper....i would rather the actual experts, lawro, cas, wally, frano etc get more time to chat than listening to this guy trying to be smart and he knows less than the average listener...

Who came up with that nugget of genius? It's stupidity is further compounded by the fact that there's also a 6 at 6 where basically they're saying 'hey kids! Here's a another story that was too s*** for the 5 at 5 but that we're including now because there's a ridiculous numerical imperative!'

I see Baula Mcsweeney sent out a snap chat about people on a "forum" to unfollow her if they don't like her. She wants the celebrity lifestyle but doesn't want the criticism that comes with being a celebrity. Make your mind up!!!!!

I really like Kimmage on that slot - you might call Lawro an expert but he's not really - he's entirely unresearched and only comes out with lazy cliches. Compare him to the better pundits out there (of which there are very few) and he doesn't hold a candle - he's actually one of the worst. Kimmage actually does some research and gives things some thought.

And he's not trying to ruin rugby - he believes that there's something wrong and he's drawing attention to it - that's called journalism. Roll back 15 years and people were accusing him of 'trying to ruin' cycling and we know how that turned out.

ah now, he knew cycling intimately so he had evidence of what was going on behind the scenes but he knows nothing about rugby, nothing, yet he deems it fit to say they are all doping, you ask any Irish rugby player about paul kimmage and see what they answer is...it wont be pretty...he had an unwarranted go at CJ Stander a few weeks ago too. He is getting paid by todayfm to talk about sports he knows nothing about and i wouldnt call researching just reading out his mates columns...lawro played soccer at the highest level therefore that qualifies him to give an expert opinion....if kimmo wants to talk about cycling and doping in cycling then fair enough i have no problem with that but to give him an hour slot on the last word is ridiculous, why not give john duggan or phil egan or some of their own lads a go in that slot, they all know more than kimmo about various sports...cooper tried to ask kimmo about the mens Oz open final last night and he batted the question off by asking cooper a load of guff questions, which do you prefer, michael collins or Dev....such guff to be coming out with on a sports slot...

I'm really not sure where to start with that! So I won't, but suffice to say that you're wrong on pretty much every point.

hes a misery, he was throwing muck yesterday at tennis, about why arent journalists questioning these tennis players that can play for 4 or 5 hours...

He strikes me a joyless moaner.

He admits that he is, but more often than not he's no to far off the mark with his moaning, not nice to listen to when it's your sport, especially those who are successfully hiding their dirty secrets

hes a journo with a chip on his shoulder, not what i want to listen to for my sports update...yes with the tennis he again had to turn it into an agenda with a journo instead of concentrating on the tennis itself, why did he do this? because he never watched the match and knows nothing about tennis, therefore its horse sh1t that todayfm are paying a guy to sit and talk about sports he knows nothing about, that time would have been better used having conor niland on to talk about the match.

Thanks to the program director, the work radio is now permanently off Today FM.

the thought of going from D&D, to Al Porter to Fergel Darcy was too muich for all of us.

The fact that 2FM is a massive improvement speaks volumes as to how pathetic Today FMs new direction is.

No more Fergel and no more Dermot & Dave makes me happy.

Muireann is a really good broadcaster on radio and on tv aswell. she's very natural. i'd like to see more of her on tv or hear more of her on the radio.

One of the recent Trump talks they had was two guests, one pro-Trump, the other anti-Trump and it was car crash tv. Matt was like fight fight fight. Really embarrasing stuff. The station has really gone off the boil. I'm even finding it hard to tune into D&D and I really like their show.

I heard the 2fm breakfast on Friday and I really liked it, might be going back to 2fm :O

I think you're talking about Cal Thomas and Marian McKeown - Cooper has them on every week and it's always been awkward but the dynamic is now vitriolic since Trump came in. Cooper has to shout both of them down and it's really tough to listen to. Thomas does nothing but make stupid analogies and get angry, evading questions and will not accept that republicans have ever done anything wrong. McKeown is too weak in the face of a strong character like that.

I used to like Cal and Marian until trump came about now its trump overload

In general I like the last word but i'm tired of the part where he gets some politician or union rep in and gets all high pitched squeaky matt trying to get in on them, its such an exhausted format at this stage, i like when he has an interesting guest in, I hate ivan yates with a passion but i have to say i enjoyed the interview matt did with him...

people seem to be tuning back into 2fm, i think i might give it a go

Jeez I don't find McKeone too weak at all - she's well able to stand up for herself. I really enjoy the Thomas/McKeone barney - highlight of the week on The Last Word for me!

i agree with you there, she is well able to fight her corner, in fact she is probably a better debater than Cal who just raises his voice, gives off sweeping statements and laughs as loudly as he can when hes being beat...

Each to their own but I find it nothing short of cringe-worthy and tbh it doesn't really give any insight into American politics to have those two at each other once a week.
