The truck driver couldn't possibly be held to blame for this.

Legally the railroad will probably be held responsible.
But who doesn't glance left and right before proceeding across an open level crossing?
And the dashcam vehicle on the other side of the road could see what was going to happen, stopped and moved back.

Does the black van man not have right of way on the roundabout?, similar thing happened to me today, this white van man pulled right out in front of me even though i was indicating left whilst on the roundabout he was trying to bully me off of my turn both taking same exit), just wondering the rule there as I figured you always give way to traffic on the roundabout.

He does have right of way. You must give way to traffic on your right or already on the roundabout. Given he is in the vans blind spot aswell and van should have went into left lane after his exit OP is very lucky.

That was the cop car he had a better view and could see what was going to happen.

Where truck was view would be restricted.

This. If we had a dashcam from the van and a car cut up the inside of him on the roundabout and cut him off, we'd all be slating the car driver.

It's not about slating but about what the rules of the road are.

The barriers weren't working correctly because of the weather (or so they say) so im guessing the rail company will foot the bill on this one.

The warning lights only came on after as well. Awful stuff.

    Fùckin hell!
I'd love to know the outcome of that.
I assume he was done for it.
    Wonder what punishment he got.
    Could have killed someone.

The black van had right of way. I know that roundabout and it doesn't have lane markings, so am not sure how he was 'in a different lane'. You were just impatient and pushed out in front of him.

Mind you I would probably have done the same as you :o

The way i saw it was he had passed by the junction i was waiting at and he was in a diffferent lane and i had a clear road ahead, if id stopped and waited for the traffic to clear off the roundabout id have been holding up traffic behind me that might have been turning left

Sounds like you're putting in more effort that the Gardaí

    Apparently I did.
Still no word back from Clontarf Garda Station, although the guard behind the desk looked like a middle aged Irish version of the fat cop in "Hot Fuzz".

He just scribbled down the reg number and my details on the back of a sheet of paper and looked like he was just humoring me so he could go back to his donuts as soon as possible.

Absolutely no need to lay on the horn here.

It is this type of aggressive driving that make drivers petrified of pulling from a side road on to a main unless they see an opening a half mile long. Meanwhile those behind must wait.

You acknowledge yourself it's a busy road. Cut the driver some slack.

Yep... but next time that guy might make an attempt to drive his car around the corner instead of pushing it.
Said it before here, if you take a chance like that, at least floor it.

Every action has reaction. He reacted to the horn blowing tailgate. If you need to accelerate to prove there was no room then maybe there was room in the traffic flow.

As somebody who used to take a "I'll show that c**t" attitude to bad drivers it impacts your own driving, messes up your zen and before long your a bad driver. The OP wasted more time making the video than they cost pulling out?

What's all this 'making the video' that everyone keeps mentioning now when they don't agree with one? You'd swear they hired a director and some lighting crew.

The camera is always recording. That's the point.

Ah patww79 you know better than that. You know it doesn't magically leap from somebody's car to this thread.

It's not exactly a huge undertaking either. I just plug in mine and let it sync while I'm playing Football Manager in the evenings.

Nice, some kind of AI to pick out the best bits and edit them and some IFTTT service to post them on boards.ie. Crafty out.

I suppose a similar amount of technology could be brought to bear on situations where people accelerate aggressively at junctions to teach people a lesson. No longer would it been such an ordeal to ease off accelerator just in case somebody dawdled out.

Only then could we say it was less effort than the AI assisted video syncing/editing/uploading/posting.

Naw, I'm still going with the other poster tbh.

Ah, yes. The oft overlooked "The Way I See It" clause, paragraph 4, subsection 3, from the Road Traffic Act (1961), amended (2010).

I wish more people would pay more attention to this useful piece of legislation.
