I think this is it. It's not clear, but it appears to have an Ericsson logo on it. There is also a green box further up the road on the green area. Not sure if that is relevant.

The green one is eircom for sure, thats likely the RSU.

The silver one could be them too as the concrete manhole covers look like classic TE ones but not sure. Its possible its ESB monitoring kit or it could be where they're building the new rack (it needs to be bigger). A few of the others on here may be better in the know there.

surprised that Dunshaughlin hasn't made it to the February round of exchanges going live. Looks like it will be March at least before the area goes live.

found 5 places going live in February apart from Crosshaven which got delayed:

    Rhode 3rd February
    Rosslare Harbour 3rd February
    Blarney 3rd February
    Annascaul – 3rd February
    Clonmany - 3rd February

    more places:

    Dunfanaghy - 1st February
    Newbridge - 3rd February
    Ballybrittas - 3rd February
Brittas Bay Bridge - 3rd February
    Coolboy - 3rd February
    Rathowen - 3rd February

Map must have been updated earlier today. My exchange has gone to green "Fibre Build Commenced". It was blue "Fibre Services Planned" late last night.

currently FTTH rural blue lines have just under 4800 premises passed for end of January. I'm expecting the number of premises passed by end of March fall far short of the original 100,000 which was originally intended to be passed by that stage. At current rate we will be lucky to have 10,000 blue lines passed by end of March.

Eir have been around our area, to offer Fibre, saying it's going live on Feb 2nd.
They have even increased the speeds of current Eir customers.
I on the other hand have Sky for the next 7 months.
Does anyone know, how long it takes Sky and Vodafone to get the option of offering Fibre?
Is there some sort of preferential treatment that Eir get, because of the cost of implementation?

    All today's announced exchanges:

    1st February:
    Crosshaven (Cork)
    Dunfanaghy (Donegal)
    Ringaskiddy (Cork)

    3rd February:
    Annascaul (Kerry)
    Ballybrittas (Laois)
    Blarney (Cork)
    Brittas Bay Bridge (Wicklow)
    Clarina (Limerick)
    Clonmany (Donegal)
    Coolboy (Wicklow)
    Newbridge (Kildare)
    Loskeran (Waterford)
    Rathowen (Westmeath)
    Rhode (Offaly)
    Rosslare Harbour (Wexford)

Something of a step up in announced exchanges. Also interesting to note that the updates only include the 1st and 3rd of February indicating that there may be more to come after that.

    Feb 2nd. That's the law(via regulations).

Do you have a link for the info about premises passed to date?

    Thanks.

You add up all the currently announced premises.

    I'll update the spreadsheet later.

There has been nothing on the openeir techbytes page since Dec 16

Where are they announcing the FTTH numbers?

On the map. Every exchange that is live has the number of passed premises on it. You need to tick the Fibre Services Live checkbox then hover over the large green tooltip.

They can offer it as soon as eir can, but it is dependent on them making the decision to sell from the exchange and setting up the backhaul necessary for them to be able to sell.

Are those urban FTTH premises included in the 100,000 FTTH premises passed estimate from openeir?

Were we led astray by the terminology used at the time?

No. They specifically announced ~106K largely rural premises in exchange areas that were entirely separate from their urban rollout. They were scheduled to be completed by March 2017.

    They referred to the
deployment of high speed broadband in rural Ireland
    this to be done in
    200 communities
    across the 26 counties.

I recall postings about 'rural' being everything outside of the main urban centres, rather than what I would expect/hope ..... outside of cities, towns and villages.

I hope this is not what their figures refer to, but if it is then they have passed about 41,000 premises to date with FTTH.

Headford exchange in Kerry just got FTTC. 18th of January 2017. Wow. Some wait. 110 premises can now access up to 100 mb.

Fibre services blue marker has now disappeared from the updated open eir map. But as the lads updating the map seem to not know much about updating a map I won't worry. But what worries me is the amount of exchanges being partially FTTH enabled.

Does anybody know if FTTH lines are generally in practice being laid from the exchange or does it depend on the weather or ease of access? Or does it matter where they start?

Basically is the 740 down for FTTH in the headford exchange by "early/mid 2017" have any chance of passing the total 740?

I appreciate all the people scouring maps and keeping our spirits up. It's only fibre but Christ alive it's some struggle to get some facts and concrete dates. That's the industry I suppose.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme nor reason to the pattern of blue line areas being enabled for FTTH. And only small sections of a given exchange area seem to be getting enabled initially. Which suggest there will be a lot of return visits by crews to many areas.

On the blue line map, it's interesting to click the button at the top "Core Fibre Network". This shows how the exchanges are connected along a main line.

Interestingly (from my personal perspective) the neighbouring exchange to me, Turloughmore, is at the end of a main line branch emanating out of Galway city which is the centre of many tributaries. But the core line passes right through Claregalway (my exchange) which is the only other exchange on that line from the central hub.

So does that mean they might be working backwards from the end of that line and doing Claregalway soon? Then from a high-level point of view, that whole core line out of Galway to its end will be 'all done'.

    Who knows...

Cornamona is another live FTTH area in Co. Galway which is at the end a green core line.

Belclare isn't quite so clear cut though. It's kind of at the far end of a core line, but in a loop connected from two sides

I can still see a blue marker for fibre services for FTTH for Headford.

What I thought was strange was the blue line doesn't break between Headford & Ballyspillane. Does that mean people could be supplied from either end?

I assume they have to start the fibre run them from the exchange or do you mean completing the connections nearest the exchange first?

I would think they are completing the parts of the blue lines which are most heavily populated first and have the greatest commerical benefit to them.

It's a good sign that there is a much larger number of exchanges going live within the first 3 days of February. Hopefully the map will get updated again in 2 weeks after the 6th of February with another string of dates. Dunshaughlin has to make it next time!

But I assume retailers would have gotten a months notice that these were going live, ie they would have been included in the apq file from 3rd Jan. but it took them to 24th Jan to update the map. therefore Dunshauglin could go live a month from today, but you might only see an update on the map a week before its due to happen...

hopefully were not left waiting another month for updates seeing as they only now go as far as the 3rd February. With the rollout now stepped up a gear we could see updates every 2 weeks instead. It used to update every 2 weeks back when the FTTC rollout was flying along.

The silver one has been there for years. So, I don't think it has anything to do with the FTTH deployment. The core fibre network has a spur into the village (according to the map). I wonder if it has anything to do with that.

It would be disingenuous in the extreme to include those 36000 urban premises in a "rural" fibre count. Most of those 36000 had been enabled and were on the map before the rural announcement was made in March 2016.

It's going way slower than they claimed it would but at this stage we all just have to sit it out no point complaining - at least it's happening albeit painfully slower than claimed. Still faster than the NBP which has even vaguer timelines and involves politicians and government - jesus wept!
