Enda Kenny's speech with Obama is one of the most cringe-worthy, unintentionally hilarious moments in Irish political history.

"Yes we did"....deport more people than any other president's administration in history.

But I thought Obama was soft on illegal immigration?

So you're not in favour of Trump's immigration stance then, I take it?

    No.

I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy of Obama supporters who slate Trump for his policies (which are just that now - nothing has been enacted yet.) compared to the Angel Barack's actual actions.

Yeah, something didn't seem quite right with 'first family' picture there. Can't quite put my finger on it just yet.

Basically for his age he seemed oblivious to the ceremony after finding something to entertain him (his playing with the child was quite endearing of course, but most kids would break off after a while and reengage with the ceremony). I say this, being a bit like this myself. You could see Ivanka being a bit uncomfortable about Barron not giving a fcuk.

Maybe he's just a brat not impressed with the awesome events but I don't think so.
Still think he's a cool little dude.

Who did Obama deport for the sole reason of being Muslim?

Or maybe God forbid people are judging Trump's policies on their own merits rather than resorting to the "but look what your guy did" tactic of a 9 year old

Who has Trump deported for being a Muslim? And when did he say he would?

Oh you mean the instance where he said he would insist on Muslims undergoing background security checks before they came into America?

Well given that the German security services have said recently that they have no idea how many Jihadi's came into the country amongst the refugees, or who they are, maybe his policy is the correct one.

Yes, that's exactly what a riot is.

Ah okay, so now that the "everyone against Trump loves Hilary" line has been shown up for the nonsense it is, we've moved on to "everyone who hates Trump loves Obama".

    Endless deflection.

What if some of us have problems with the lot of them?

The 2016 Presidential election threw up two of the worst candidates ever to run for the Oval Office in Modern times.

    Whoever won, we would lose.

I would not have voted for either.

Nope, the "complete and utter shutdown of Muslims entering the United States". That's not a "background security check". You can read more about it here, on the official website of Donald J. Trump - https://www.donaldjtrump.com/press-releases/donald-j.-trump-statement-on-preventing-muslim-immigration. He has tried flip flopping every which way to later say that would be Muslims from certain countries only (and still said bans, not background checks), yet that statement still remains on his official website.

Now enlighten me... how do you figure out if someone is Muslim if they decide not to tell you?

Not a fruitful line of argument.

It doesn't matter what they really believe. What they are is violent dickheads and they should be denounced on that basis and nothing more.

"Your lads are worse than our lads" is grand for football teams but for politicians they should rise and fall by their policies and values and not by who supports them.

Getting sucked into a debate about the justification of riots only plays into your opponents hands.

They never do, the same old deflect deflect deflect and run away... and in a few years time try to blame Clinton/Obama/Santa Claus/whoever on it, or pretend "how were we to know?" when it's been pointed out to them countless times over this thread and the last.

Using violence against the police authorities is definitely a riot. Tear gas being fired as well.

Never seen this at an inauguration before. Shows how divisive Trump is.

Not to mention his anti climate change / global warming denial - fine if he wants to incinerate America but if his henchmen in cabinet have their way on climate / environmental degradation it will be catastrophic not just for America but the rest of us as well

They will be. They have been sold a pup. Trump is a snake oil salesman. Bit like Nigel Farage.

Only way I can see him getting away with the above is if his "New Deal" on Infrastructure construction actually comes to fruition.

    That's a long shot I think.

26000 in the 2016 ....what a guy obama was....

many liberals (and liberal media) allow obama huge leeway whereas a president like bush got none (rightly so bush/blair got lashed for their war mongering ways)
    But obama , he's cool..why?
Is it cos he is black and there is some perverse racism afoot?

    I think so.

Didn't he inherit a war on muslims from the previous president? It would have been great if he could have just called a truce and withdrawn all troops but it just wasn't realistic. They were too invested and had raised too much resistance. Then, of course, there was the rise of ISIS to contend with. I can't imagine there are many who thing they needed a softer hand.

One of the annoying thing about tribalism is that leaders are poorer for it. They're not held to account by their own supporters.

It's considered "giving succour to the enemy" and people are too afraid that the enemy will win, so the pragmatism of having two competing cults of personality takes over.

It's the politics of being against your enemy rather than being for any of your own beliefs.

It's one of the hallmarks of totalitarianism. The idea is that everything bad is the fault of particular groups of people. So you need to get rid of them. The problem is that even if you get rid of them it won't fix the original problem. So you start targeting others. You start targeting people in your country/organisation because they're the insiders that are sabotaging you. It's not that your idea was bad it's that the only reason it failed was because of the sneakiness of the enemy.

The problem is that eventually you run out of enemies to target. The country would be perfect if only it weren't for all the people inside the country who want it to fail. So nazi's had socialists and jews. Venezuela had capitalists. Trumpism has socialists and muslims.

Note that I'm not saying that Trump is Hitler. I'm not saying there's going to be extermination camps or anything like that. I'm stating that populist movements such as Trumps always draw part of their support by blaming a particular group of people for the faults of the country.

Unlikely. There's enough idiots on the far left of the spectrum. They're live tweeting about smashing up property to show capitalists were their loyalties lie because apparently all property is theft.

Add to that the Russians - bet they're toasting their new best friend in the Kremlin tonight - his isolationist America first doesn't bode well for the Baltics, Ukraine, NATO alliance etc

You can't without a hell of a lot of difficulty. It would be a logistical nightmare to work it out. So he'll insist on blanket bans of travel from certain countries into the US......

Except, some of those countries will have significant resources invested in the US economy, making that difficult to actually work.
