I'd love to know how that normally works.. I'd be very surprised if Obama sat down and handpicked 690 people between the election and inauguration. Why isn't that a Republican sort of thing that's ready to go.

Normally the outgoing president's National Security Council sends a big list, recommendations, tips,...
    Hundreds upon hundreds of pages.

    https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2017-01-18/the-empty-trump-administration

This happened now as well, to help the transition go smooth. But nobody knows if Trump or his people even read it.
The way things are going makes me think they didn't.

To be honest I'm not totally clear on it either but if they need 690 positions filled I would expect them to have names against way more than 28 at this stage?

I found this entry on Wikipedia for the names proposed by Obama, it looks like a far greater number were proposed when he got inaugurated.

If you backed that up with something worthwhile, it'd be great.

    Sure.

"When Mexico sends it people, they're not sending their best. They're not sending you. They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people,"

18,000,000 people will lose health insurance when Trump repeals Obamacare

    William H. Pryor.

It is not a good day to be a gay, poor Mexican.

Anyone I know who is against Trump do not even know why they are against him... aside from the fact that they are being told that they should be by the fabulous media.

I was going to give the reasons why but I see others have covered them already. So given that it looks like you're a fan, what do you expect from him? What policies do you want him to enact, what do you want him to do with regards to immigration, who do you want to see him appoint to the supreme court, how many jobs do you want Hi my create in the rust belt states, who do you want him to handle the china situation (and if it comes to it, do you support war against them), at what point do you want him to have the executive branch filled, do you want him to follow through on 'draining the swamp' and in what particular ways, do you want him to tighten up on wall Street which we heard so much about during the election, and so on. What would you want him to achieve in order to deem his presidency a success and how would you like him to achieve this?

Keep in mind that "but Hillary!" is no longer a valid response. Specifics would be appreciated.

I dunno, I think 2017 might be a great year for democracy, voters may put a bit more critical thought into their choices in future elections.

If they're not dead, of course.

Oh give over. Democracy worked perfectly fine.

you may not like the result but don't equate that to the system failing.

People were asked their choice and they gave it and he won based on the rules in place. Whether or not the system is problematic is open to question, and should always to be open to question regardless.

Whether or not voters were misled, well unfortunately the price of democracy is that you have to trust the people to engage and inform themselves,

BTW I find it interesting that you ignored the complete paragraph before that one listing a number of other reasons to be against Trump gaining power, so I assume that you agree with me that they are compelling reasons for not being happy, enthusiastic or agree with a Trump presidency?

Sad truth is what we're watching is democracy in action (albeit via the electoral college system), just a reminder that democracy isn't some wonderful and perfect system but simply the 'least bad' we have come up with, and is fully open to exploitation from charlatans and a lack of information/education among the masses.

I knew it would be that quote.. A lot of nothing really.

Repealing Obamacare? If Obamacare was actually good, it wouldn't get repealed. This year, it's increasing so much to be practically too expensive for people who are forced to pay it. $8k deductables on top of hundreds per month in premiums for some folk. And insurance was cheaper for people with no pre-existing.
I'd say it's a worse day for poor Americans. At least Mexicans are more likely to go south to get sorted or can leave the country to avoid the outrageous bills which will guaranteed soon be blamed on Trump.

But more importantly, that guy is one of 21 people Trump listed in May and I'm guessing Republican pressures played a part. And now that list has been automatically narrowed to 6 so that it's only the federal appeals court judges.

Saying "he's thinking about it" seems a bit of a stretch and we'd be safer waiting until it actually happens. Nominating this guy to the Supreme court isn't exactly going to change much very quickly. There are nine of them.

So no, I'm not convinced that January 20th a bad day to be a poor gay Mexican. No worse than it will be for a poor American.

I don't even know which post you're talking about but I've already said that I'm happy for America to have a complete retard as President.
I don't give a shỉt because they had their chance. I hope he fưcks the country up.. But that doesn't mean I want to put up with lies beforehand.

The fact is that Trump is grand with gay people but is traditional on marriage, apparently much like the majority of Irish voters his age.

But Trump alone won't be making an impact on that, it's up to the people he puts in charge of these matters. And many of them seem to be outright hostile to gay rights, his VP for starters.

The fact so far every one of his nominees (apart from Mattis) have a very anti-gay agenda makes me think he's not specifically 'grand' with gay people.
Posing with an LGBT flag isn't enough.

TBH if it didn't effect us I would be of the same opinion, unfortunately when he does wreck things in 'Merica we will get the splashback from it here and I don't think it will be pretty.

How about thirty million poor people losing all their healthcare?

Oh and raising the retirement age to 69, while cutting pension's, and old age benefits.

What else? Environment. He's dropping environmental protections. Gutting the environmental protection agency.

Oh and yesterday he started the process to begin selling off the national parks to developers.

Hes also cutting children's and veterans benefits.

Education? He installed a sec of education yesterday that doesn't believe in free public education. No joke.

    And there's much much more...

He a moron. A dangerous idiot. He's already the most unpopular president elect in history. And his administration is a massive cash grab for him and his cronies. That's all it is.

What a day to be alive. All those impassioned speeches, all those outrage led Articles, all those Sleb endorsements, all that fake news, all those whiney protests and the man, the movement will still reign supreme.

The 8th of November was the final whistle but today is the Trophy lifting ceremony :D

Gonna be more great wins this year too. We're gonna win big in Holland, we're gonna big in France, we're gonna win big in Germany. We're gonna make the Western World Great Again.

Liverpool or Man Utd, though I'm not sure which to be honest. Some sports team by the sounds of things, anyway.

Trump doesn't know anything about the job because he never so much as looked at what's involved.

Because he neither expected nor wanted to get the job.

It's all a stunt gone horribly wrong. And he is going to have an absolutely miserable time - they guy is a narcissist who cannot deal with criticism without flying off the handle, and he is about to take a job as the most hated man in America.

Trump is going to spend his whole time in office near apoplexy.

Thanks for this. You've summed up exactly what I think.
And if he didn't seriously expect to get the job, his wife DEFINITELY didn't.
Not in her worst nightmare could this have happened.

What greatness are we hoping to get back to? Colonization of poorer countries? Almost perpetual war in Europe? Slavery? Exploitation of the Poor? How far back are you hoping we go?

One way or the other the whole of the civilised world is leaning unstoppably back to the right.
Left wing went too far and this is the result
    This is always the result

Errr the majority of the western world is centre orientated. With the exception of places like Greece none have really left governments at all (and that worked out well for the Greeks didn't it).

The US is definitely Centre Right, the Democrats are closer to the centre and the Republicans are more to the right.
