It was interesting what the female developer said in that radio interview that was posted on here about the Dock being more technical than just a unit to show on the tv, saying there wouldn't be any third party docks. With some kind of VR version supposedly in some form of testing somewhere, it could mean there is more upgrades or just generally that we might not know about.

I had a responce from Gamestop online regarding my December pre order of 499 which I paid a fiver. I was told that the price couldn't be changed online but when the switch arrives to Gamestop the discount of 170 will be applied and remaining balance will be taken from my credit card and I can collect at my selected collection point.

They are more than likely just in R&D looking at a 4K version ala the PS4 and One.

No way it will be a 4K dock. You don't just plug an extra processor on to something and get 4K magically, it's a stupid and nonsensical way to do computer architecture.

I think its very unlikely but not impossible from a hardware perspective. You currently can connect an external GPU box to a laptop and use that GPU to power the display resolution and graphic output but the cost would be huge for the consumer.

But that would require the games code to have the ability to take advantage of the extra horsepower which I feel is going to cost console manufacturers (PSPro/Scoripo) more grief than praise in the long run.

In theory, they won't take more pre orders than they can handle cos they'll stop taking them once their allocations are full.

I don't believe that the case. With 2 million units for release on day one and our territory being very small I imagine we've hit our allocation and stores are going well over. Some US stores have only got 10 units each, how many do we expect to have? Between GameStop and Smyths I'm very worried about not having a console on launch, if it comes down to it, those who have it pre ordered first get it first.

Is it not a case of first come first serve with these pre orders? that is, only if they go over their allocation. I would assume gamestop ireland know their full allocation.

Speaking with the store they don't know or at least couldn't tell me how close to full they were when I asked. (Asking to see how urgently I needed to get in and pay the €50 deposit) so I don't imagine so.

So if the store reps don't know when the pre orders are full how useful is the information if only head office knows? Surely they should all be sent an email with the exact amount of pre orders they have to share around. But apparently not the case.

They're taking the money from your credit card before you pick it up or you'll use your credit card on the day to pay for it?

It's the latter. If you're picking it up in store they don't charge your card.

There's signficantly more stores in the US though.

Well my credit card is via Paypal so I'm assuming they charge my paypal and I just collected it ? Sure I'll find out in March.

Not that I'm aware of, you collect in store and pay however you want at POS.

I'm actually happy with the launch line up, not dissapointed. Sure there's less games than 3DS. But Zelda is a killer exclusive to have, specially since 3DS launch games were mediocre at best.

Not quite an exclusive though. ;)

One last hurrah for the Wii-U.

    It's a Nintendo exclusive :)

    Yep I understood. :p

Fingers crossed the launch is a big success. I'm hoping it really takes off and is too hard to say no to next year.

Looking forward to the excitement from the early adopters here.

hence why I'll be outside the store waiting for them to open on the 3rd
    assuming there's no midnight release

From working in a Gamestop about a year ago, they often don't really know their allocation but take pre orders, send this back to the company and usually get as many as they have pre orders for at least. If head office know they've taken enough preorders, they'll let the stores know not to take any more. In the unusual case where too many pre orders are taken, it was a first come first served deal. But there would practically always be uncollected pre orders, so if those are not collected within 48/72 hours, they'd be then offered to the next in line. I don't know if that's how every store does it, but the one I worked in anyway. They may be asking for €50 so that the queue starts with those who have paid at least that much. It looks bad for stores to have uncollected preorders, so they would only want those genuinely interested, hence asking for a bigger deposit.

So the earlier you got in, the better, I think. No idea about the online pre orders, I always thought they were added automatically to the list, but seems to be confusion from a few posters about this. Gamestop are a shockingly poor company for communication, so it's no surprise that individual stores are not in the know. As hard as the staff/managers might work, they can never really do a good job because they are held back by a ridiculous head office who really don't seem to care about the customer.

Obviously, all of this could have changed since I left, and might have only applied to our store!

I've just realised that has been no mention of Smash Brothers wasn't the last few Amibo delayed to launch with the Switch ?

Reggie mentioned it off handedly, he said Smash will be on Switch. Nothing more.

You can still pre order at Gamestop on the website.

To just pick on up on launch day, hell yeah. To pre-order there could be still some places that might take the order.

I switched my pre order to an in store one today, so you can still pre order from Gamestop in stores as of today.

Argos might be a good choice on launch day as well.

    How'd you manage that?

Any particular reason you did that?

Made an online preorder today - did they still think you'd be able to pick up on launch day?

my online pre-order was only a fiver and they said I needed to put 50 down to be confirmed one and I should get one day 1. they just cancelled the online order and gave me a standard store pre-order.

Reggie on why the Switch won't struggle like Wii U did

For the Switch, Fils-Aime believes, as he's been saying for a while now, that Nintendo has done a better job communicating what exactly the Switch is; he also believes there won't be a lack of strong games.

"Nintendo Switch is a home console you can play anywhere, with anyone. Clear. Compelling," he said. "We see the reaction by consumers whether it's measured in Twitter trending topics or views of videos on YouTube or just the frequency with which I get called by old high school buddies that I haven't heard from in 30 years who are asking me how to get their hands on Nintendo Switch. We have communicated the proposition clearly and it is compelling."

The second piece, that of strong games coming out frequently, is a "critical" component to selling Switch consoles and to keep existing users engaged, Fils-Aime said.

"Wii U will go down as having fantastic content--the issue was as you look at the reality of exactly when the games were launched, there were large gaps in between," he said.
