I'd be interested in knowing how long after a rep has been around, if you miss your chance, how long do you have to wait before they activate lines for order after they have been withheld. It's just after all this waiting, it is a very bitter pill to swallow. My area hasn't gone live, I haven't seen Eir reps anywhere either, but just about everyone here wants fibre so if they do make it to my road they could have orders full before they even get to me.

Id like to clear things up here if I can.

The guy who sells door to door is competing with the telesales teams. They dont want you calling as they lose ccommission. So as usual they lie. Door to door always lie.

The reason you can't order is the APQ file doesn't have FTTH listed on your address. Its not too far or a full OLT. If it were you'd be able to order but then it would fail. If you're in this circumstance then you need to have eir open a ticket with openeir to fix the APQ.

The "notification period" should apply as its a RAP and if the exchange based rule was applied it could be 3 months not one. With this period theres a 1/3 month hold, then orders start and sometime after appointments start. So from the OLT booting up it can be a while until you actually receive your first bit.

A bit harsh surely. We all want FTTH but crucifixation of an eir employee is a bit much now.

    Perhaps she has a strap-on?

If you are on a blue-line then there will be sufficient fibre capacity to service all premises.
There is no indication otherwise, except for some excuse some nameless & faceless person might have used for not providing the service.

Thanks for that, Ed E...that's interesting...do you mind me asking, what is an APQ? And would someone at Eir Retail have a clue what I am asking them to do if I log a ticket?

    APQ= advance Pre-qual (file).
It lists all qualifying addresses for NGA. For addresses within the 30 day advance notice period, it also has the date that eir wholesale systems will accept orders.

If I don't have an active phone line, will the eir sales folk still take a door-step order? From reading this thread, I really don't want to miss the first available connection date whenever that is!!

Yes, some of my neighbours who are having it installed this week ordered it from the rep without an active phone line...he checked availability by Eir Code...Eir Sales (over the phone or online) do not seem to be able to do that...

Called Eir Sales again...The guy who I spoke to was very "sympathetic" about my situation but said that they can only go by what Eir Wholesale have in their system.
I was looking around today at the installation work that's gone on over the past few days around here and noticed that all the new splice boxes has a unique identifier printed on a yellow label. It may be worth getting the number of your nearest box and seeing if that helps in getting a FTTH connection ordered.

Gonna do that tomorrow. The hardest part is that you literally meet that brick wall when you speak to Eir Sales..."We can only go by what the system says"...sooo frustrating... If you try to explain anything about splice boxes or FTTH, they really don't understand...

I told the last guy from Eir Sales about us having a splice box on the pole outside my house ready to go...he said, no that box wouldn't have anything to do with Fibre, it would come from the exchange, that's where the box is...and you are too far from the exchange...

I tried, yet again to say you are talking about FTTC, not FTTH...it was going around in circles...

Hopefully the identification number on the splice box may unclog a few minds at the drone call centre.

I believe they would realise if you used the 'eir terminology' ...... "fibre-extreme" ..... emphasising 'extreme' as a different produce to 'eir fibre'.
    Worth a try IMO ;)

Dunshaughlin exchange, Trim road, where basic FTTH "looks" finished to me.
A few changes on the line checker,

I would normally get "fibre not available - 4Mb available..."

    This evening, I am getting
"Although your area is enabled for eir Fibre broadband, it hasn't reached your address yet. You can chat to one of our eir experts or call 1800 773 729 for support"

Same for another 4 neighbouring numbers.

You can complain about the frustration of not knowing why the database shows it as unavailable to you, but the sales guy probably literally cannot enter an order for a house that shows as unavailable.

Eir did seem to be gearing up for a big marketing switch to rural fibre over the summer with talk of a new map, but they decided to go very quiet in early September presumably because they need to keep their cards close to their chest re. the NBP. This may explain why the database is not up to date -it's deliberate.

I wouldn't read much into that, I've been getting that message for nearly 2 years now.

I 100% agree...that's why I didn't lose the cool with the Eir Sales guy (I have to admit, it was hard at times)...he could only go by what the system allows him to do...

I genuinely feel that Eir have given the sales guys zero training on the basics of FTTH...

Apologies if I missed it - but I searched through the thread and can't seem to find an answer.

Have Open Eir indicated whether they intend to upgrade (or at least offer the option to upgrade) existing FTTC installs in a FTTH area, to FTTH?
Or is it a case that once you have some sort of "fibre" broadband available to you, whether that be copper or fibre, that's it, you're done?

The promising blue line passes by the entrance to my estate on the fibrerollout map but doesn't come into the estate itself.

Not sure whether to read that as a good or a bad sign...

Upgrading of FTTC connections will come much later I suspect ...... but no definitive announcement has been made as far as I am aware.

If it passes your estate, then it you're not going to get FTTH anytime soon. This has been confirmed by a couple of people on here who've spoken with techs who have been working on the lines - the blue line is the blue line and it will not be deviated from. :(

As @Johnboy states you might get it eventually, but likely only after all us culchies get's us Gigabits 'n grits! :p

the blue lines that run past estates but not into them won't service the estates for a few years. Those blue lines that run past your estate is the fiber on it's way to a blue line into the countryside. Most people are on efibre in estates which is good enough till at least 2020.

Thanks guys, feared as much :(

It's a fairly new build estate that I'm in so there was a VDSL cabinet built especially for it.

However the estate opens out onto a rural road, which is also where the blue line runs along, with the line starting out from the local exchange and running out to the end of that road.

There are multiple houses along the rural road, presumably they will get FTTH off that fibre run?

Might be a perfect time to get more friendly with the neighbour who backs onto ourselves as their house is directly on that road...!

Two KN vans came today and installed Fibre Extreme for my next door neighbour. I managed to catch them in time and explained my situation. One guy kindly popped next door to me and confirmed 100% that I can get FTTH and told me to quote the reference number on the splitter box (he called it the DP number). It is so high up, it is hard to see...

He couldn't believe that Eir Sales are telling me it is not available but said that they really shouldn't be checking by telephone number as that will be checking for FTTC, not FTTH...

    Time to try again...

Yep, that was what I posted earlier ..... quote the DP number to eir on the phone.
Hopefully it will work ...... else you might be able to ask for a 'supervisor' or someone who knows about 'extreme'.

If you've got a good resolution digital camera, you could take a pic and then zoom in on the image?

More to the point what is your neighbour getting with Speedtest...? :D

I'll probably end up having to do the same. The DP number on the splice box beside my gate is very easy to read thankfully and already have it digitally photographed from when it was installed.
