Makes sense - but even then, I'd wager we'll be waiting a hell of a loooong time for that stretch to be done.

Incidentally, does anyone have the figures for the difference in cost for 2+2 versus the full standard motorway per KM?

Fair enough, but it hardly makes much difference to the price of bridges?

Had fun negotiating my way around a couple of cones in the middle of the lane yesterday morning at Coldwood again. Does anyone have any idea why this overpass is so slow to be completed?

Hearing lots of rumours about the bridge being too low but this can hardly be true.

The detour is getting to be a serious hazard now, nobody seems to be paying any attention to the 50KPH speed limit.

Not going to happen and it's kinda ironic to think it would once the motorway opens! Greenway all the way from Athenry to Collooney, Sligo is your only man. Would bring tourists and money to a region with a poor draw for that kind of business.

Looks like the progress on the M17 has really be sky rocketing in the last few months, M17 do you know how much tarmac have they laid on this whole project so far?

Thanks a million guy's for all the great comments we should count ourselves lucky that were getting a brand new road when you see that there's 10,000 kms of road falling apart in this country the m18 27.5kms the have tarmaced 13 kms jersey barrier 2 kms, m17 25.5 kms the have tarmaced 19 kms jersey barrier 12kms,the tuam bypass 4 2kms the have tarmaced 3.7 kms there is no jersey barrier but there using that chicken wire stuff

3.7km of 4.2km means surely we'll see an opening in the new few months. Is the remaining 0.5km far behind?

The M17 is looking really good now - wonder if it will actually open prior to the M18 despite the official line - M18 is coming along now, but it's somewhat behind the M17 (perhaps due to drainage redesign to take account of unprecedented flooding approximately 13 months ago). However, parts of the southern section of the M17 has still a lot of work remaining.
