I honestly think the current trend of "superfights" is only going to last so long. People are going to lose interest in seeing pointless, irrelevant fight quite quickly, give it two years and I'm fairly confident the UFC will be back to how it was in the past.

TO be fair I dont see how the so called ''superfights'' are pointeless and irrelevant. They put an entirely new dimension on a division. I love the notion of champions from different weight classes fighting each other.

    McGregor/Woodley
    Woodley/Bisping
    Cormier/Miocic
    Cody/Aldo
    DJ/Cody

All fights I would love love love to see.

Wow that is shocking bad in fairness. I wasn't expecting any more than half a mil, 650,000 tops, but thats very bad.

peaked at 5.1 million. Crazy good numbers but as Dana said there's literally fcuk all to watch on Christmas Eve. Same old Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Home Alone etc.

What do we make of Meryl Streep? I see JK is having a pop at her on Twitter calling her a multi-millionaire celebrity with no humility. Which, of course, is drawing some ironic replies.

Take the high road. Getting into sh*t throwing fights with celebrities isn't going to do the sport any good, other than gratifying the hardcore fans.

I honestly think she just used MMA because it ends in "Arts" and transitioned into her next point. If the last word in GAA was "Arts" she'd probably have googled it and used that lol.

Doubt she has anything against football or MMA to be fair.

I think it just reinforces how thin skinned some in the MMA community are about MMA.

Im not in the MMA community myself, but I'd imagine it gets very tiresome to constantly be told:

    "It's not a real sport"

    "Little more than dog fighting"

    "There's no skill"

And so on. If I trained in MMA and had a real passion for it, those constant flow of comments would get on my nerves.

MMA will soon pass out other combat sports in Europe.

Dana White calling Streep "an uppity 80 year-old" (she's 67) isn't exactly an inspiring response.

Sure, the demographic who look up to Streep are likely not what the UFC are aiming at but they equally could be mothers, grandmothers, fathers, grandfathers of kids the UFC will actually be aiming at and it's hardly going to make them want to splash out $60 for their teenager on the next PPV.

Meh. Negligible impact when all is said and done but just all seems so childish. Then again, he did stump for a man-child at the Republican Convention who is now the next President.

Pass out how? By what metric?
In terms of spectators it might be close out side of an Olympic year. Not remotely close in terms of participants, at a guess.

Precisely. This is one of the things a lot of MMA fans throw out there and accept as gospel. "Fastest growing sport in the world" etc. What evidence is there for any of it?!

It was at one point, probably.
    But not a hope anymore.

Then again, what's the metric for fastest growing?

    Cos Dana White said so.

On paper it was a bad card and the main event changed at the last minute. Some great fights though, the Cub and Choi fight was worth it alone. At what $70 a buy many fans probably kept their money for 207 so gave this one a miss.

1.1m buys for UFC 207 but Ronda gone now too, the only chance they will be bringing in big numbers is with Conor.

Honestly, the Woodley and Bisping super fight has me completely stumped...

Woodley needs to fight Wonderboy or Maia and there's no amount of talent lining up for Bisping. I'm glad McGregor went for the LW belt, as I don't think FW held much more for him at the time. Woodly and Bisping need to defend their titles before trying to arrange a "super fight" that no one is calling for.

woodley-wonderboy 2 has been signed for 209, the whole bisping thing was the two lads messing most likely

According to Newstalk, Mayweather said in a radio interview today that he tried to make the McGregor fight with purse of 100m for him and 15m for McGregor. But McGregor wanted closer to 100m so it didn't get much further.

Gas the legs the story gets

Helwani tweeted tonight in regards to the latest news, he said:
"I don't think we should be as quick to dismiss this so quickly anymore. It's def. not close at all, but it's def. a story worth monitoring"

That's interesting to me as Ariel has been quick to shoot down these rumours before. I got the impression he barely wanted to make reference to it.

Is this the first time that Mayweather has said they have spoken? I recall Conor saying that Floyd needs to up the money a few times. So having the other party actually speak about it gives it some legs now.

Wasn't a radio interview, he said in this interview on ESPN's First Take (8 mins in) that he would be willing to give Conor twice what he has made so far from a single bout.

He seems to think he has made only 7m or so and I think is ignoring how much Conor has made from fights after his PPV cut is taken into account (which I would imagine is $20m+) .

It's irrelevant. Compared to Floyd Conor is a bum. Thinking he should make the same money is hilarious.

The 15m would only be his purse. Mayweather said they would sort out the PPV split separately.

Conor should thank Floyd for giving him 15 million for getting the face jabbed off him.

When he can get much much more, don't be ridiculous.
