I have a 2006 Ford Transit Connect van 1.8 diesel. Over the last couple of days the battery light comes on, a few minutes after the engine has started and stays on. The engine starts first time without issue ... so is it an Alternator issue ?? Any ideas on replacement cost and recommend any specialists ? Thanks in advance for any replys. North kildare .

The ( thin ) wires from the alternator on Focus etc give grief

    - connector gets corroded or the wire get chafed off nearby metal and short out

As above, the wires for the smart charge system can break or corrode through under the intercooler. In which case the alternator defaults to a set rate of charge and the light is illuminated. Sounds like that is the case here as if the alternator wasn't charging the battery would have gone flat by now.
