Snow on the way

So I was watching the weather forecast and it looks like snow is on the way later next week. The mild weather we are having at the moment is set to be replaced by a polar downdraft that will see temperatures plummet. Currently Eastern and Northern Europe is in the grip of Arctic conditions with snow in Greece, Turkey and Italy.

So, are you looking forward to snow? There was a thread here in AH that we weren't experiencing winter but it looks that it is set to change.

I hope so. I bought a 4x4 recently, and I want to get at least some benefit from it.

It's gonna be the topic of conversation everywhere you go now for the next 3 days.
What is it with this country's infatuation with the bloody weather?

Our infatuation with the weather goes back to the times of the famine. Bad weather means you do not eat. Crops of spuds could be ruined via a big freeze.

It's in our DNA, just like there is an innate lack of confidence in Irish people from years of being beaten down by the British. Its our DNA, just like our obsession with Fianna Fail, psychologists have likened it to battered wife syndrome, "it'll be different this time"

There are things that happen in this country that no one would get away with elsewhere. They'd be out turning over cars and burning effigies.

In 2010 when the country had very heavy snow I was crossing the road as a pedestrian on Bootertown Avenue where it meets the Rock Road.

The lights for me were green and I proceeded to cross the road taking large steps to overcome the feet of show, so I prolly wasn't moving very quickly.

By the time I got in front off a 4*4 it beeped at me frantically as the lights had turned green for him/her.

I hope the benefits one feels one can get from driving a 4*4 isn't that they can be a dick, cause it looks like that sometimes where 4*4's are concerned.

I still have those yokes that go over the soles of yer shoes with spikes. You know, for walking on ice/snow. They were all the rage after 2010.

I hope I never have to use them! Ever.

This should be in the Weather forum.

The snow lovers over there will all be having organisms.

Always thought it was a good way of separating the children from adults. Adults dont like snow. I love snow...still. I know its bad for traffic, old folk and gardeners.... But its a fantastic display of physics, precious because of its temporary-ness, and makes everywhere look so clean & tidy.

    Are you mad?
I've been enjoying snowball fights for over 60 years.
I'll be the first out in it with the grandkids :D

What does M.T. Cranium have to say about the matter?

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Cranium has achieved the status of the Oracle of Delphi. If Cranium pronounces I follow...he/she is better than Met Eireann.

I'm actually looking forward to snow...

...which means it probably won't snow at all.:(

Would rather avoid it tbh. Could potentially the 40 minute commute in to over an hour.

99% of people with 4x4s don't have tyres appropriate for 4x4 use.

Therefore your 4x4 without snow tyres will be as much use as a rear wheel drive BMW.

Common misconception is your jeep will just go where ever you point it.
