Nathan Carter - His Irishness is way overrated.

    FYP :D

In relation to the OP, I find yer man from the Coronas' voice not the easiest on my ears. I can't deny their success or ability to write a pop song, I'd just rather hear what his 'real' voice sounds like singing some of those songs.

First person that mentions Christy Moore gets a ban.

But.... but, you just mentioned him.
    You gots to go.
Why did you do this to yourself?

    Howzier, the guy from Wicklow.

One hit wonder. Didn't like the sentiments to that 'hit' he had.

Niall Breslin. He had some success with the Blizzards, did nothing special with his solo run and then the Voice took him in. Also kind of felt like he leeched off the very real problem of mental illness to keep his name in the public eye, just my 2c.

Never fully grasped what the nation sees in him.

If you ever say that again, I'll put your head through the wall.

Damien Dempsey for sure. Absolutely brutal.

Damian Dempsey. Do not understand what the whole thing around him is. Not a patch on say someone like Luke Kelly. Also one has to mention Bressie. He must be riding someone in RTE to get the promotion he is getting.

I can understand that he might be a bit too working class Jackeen for some. His voice does become a bit grating at times.

But still though he is a fantastic songwriter. Listen to this and tell me that you don't see the genius.

Christy Hennessy was ****ing awful. It was actually embarrassing. A sort of earnest simpleton's whine.

Any one of them with a beard whining softly into a mic about some woman who doesn't love him while stroking an acoustic guitar. Hard to pick one, there seems to be thousands of them.

Your man from Picture This. Quare ould made up accent in his singing voice.

Mundy also. He really ruined that Steve Earle song.

Usually with braces and some banjo and mandolin. There's one on every corner now. So original. Burn them all with fire.

    Spraypaint Backalley is pure muck.
I have never fully recovered from hearing "Rollin' down to Dubbillin town".
I did once hear DD on the radio and thought the song was quite good. Can't remember which song.

Currently listening to Eric Bell: Live Tonight. Now there is an Irishman worth listening to.

I hate the term overrated. Just because you may not like the singer or how they sing doesn't mean they are overrated.

Sometimes music needs that visceral element.

Christy Dingham of Aslan, now I know the poor fella has his health issues but he was on the Tommy Tiernan show a few nights back. Said he's a classically trained singer or something like that - has being studying some some signing technique for 12 or 15 years or something like that.

So he gets up an gives a rendition of some hymn, along the lines of nessun dorma or something like that.

    Jesus wept.

    Ah, don't be knocking Christy.
I have to say, I have been at some great Aslan gigs.

Paul Brady and that awful whiny voice of his + the fella from Bagatelle & his summer in Dublin on the 46a :-)

Daniel O Muck. Absolute bilge. How anyone can listen to this sh1te is beyond me. The mammy and cups of tea, such horsesh1t.

Ah now Dingham has a great voice, however his contribution to music is minimal.
    Same as Dolores O'Riordan.

Can't understand the love for Damien Dempsey either. He butchered school days over on some documentary and can't look at him since .

Christy is piss poor . The bar I work in had Aslan playing a few times and they play that how can I protect you ........ Song three times . Anyone worth their salt wouldn't do that

Completely agree with Damien Dempsey. He simply can't sing, his voice is absolutely brutal. I wanted to like him for so long because I love Luke Kelly, the Dubliners, Liam Clancy etc. but I just can't.

Another Irish singer I can't listen to, although he may not fit into the overrated category is John Spillane. He doesn't have a note in his head, although he has also written some great songs.
