    Guys.

For chromecast audio. Does one need an internet connection for it to work.

What I was thinking of installing it in a car without having any internet connection.

connect chrome cast to aux connector in car stereo and use cigarette lighter for power

enable hotspot on the phone, go to chromecast app, find the chromecast audio, set it up there.

Then using somthing like Plex to stream local music and bobs your uncle it works in the car

Sounds overly complicated?? Why not just jack your phone in via aux and play that way?

wireless part and anyone in the car could play it (even in the back seats)

Of course Bluetooth device connected to the aux connector would be ideal thing but we dont have one of them at the moment

Don't suppose there's anyone around the Crumlin area with a VGA cable, or a VGA->DVI adapter? Trying to diagnose a borked server.

    Oh noes, BIOS update?

Nah, on latest. Think the power went out over Christmas, not sure (wasn't here). Came back and the server wasn't reachable, string of errors on the unRAID console via IPMI, had to hard restart. Haven't been able to get anything on the IPMI console display since. The hardware boots up - fans, etc. - but no display at all from IPMI. Doesn't look like it's even POSTing, though can't be sure because no VGA cable in the house at the moment.

I'm in Sandyford if that's any good to you? Can give you a lend of VGA cable

Thanks. I have one at my parents' place I can grab tomorrow (Rathfarnham). It was more if someone happened to be a few minutes walk away that I could grab today.

It's a pain-in-the-ass time too, because I was planning on waiting on Zen before doing a server upgrade. Looks like I might have to go with older Intel stuff instead.

I'm still going to test it, but I'm not massively hopeful. The only thing on the unRAID console before I started was a string of CPU errors. Can't remember the syntax though (should have screenshot it).

Did. Only thing showing there is:
315	12/13/2016 23:56:10	Unknown	OEM Record	OEM timestamped

Wish I could remember that error on the unRAID console. Googled at the time, and while I didn't find anything to do with my board, people seemed to think it was either a defective board or RAM causing it.

NMI: IOCK error (debug interrupt?) for reason XX on CPU 0

Where XX was a number, usually 60-63, 70-72, if memory serves.

    Dell+27+Ultrathin+gallery+1.jpg

    https://www.engadget.com/2017/01/02/dell-27-ultrathin-monitor/?sr_source=Facebook

Looks to be a pretty great display but its thinness comes from moving the smarts to the base. Which means no VESA mounts :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

No VESA means it's not an option for me, but it's really nice to see Dell continues to innovate with stuff like this.

seems to take up more desk space than a conventional monitor ..... that base and the wiring out the rear of it.

Different .... but I see no advantage

I was thinking about upgrading my graphics card earlier but I have a fairly limited budget and was looking more along the lines of value for money.

I currently have a 7970 GHz edition and in fairness I don't really need to upgrade as I can still play most games at high/ultra on my 24" 1080p monitor.

I was looking at Tom's graphics card hierarchy and it states that I need to move up 3 levels to see a major improvement but is the chart actually a good indicator? Do I really need to move up so far?

Moving up that far would have be at the level of a GTX 1070 or higher which isn't very budget friendly.

Now like I said, the upgrade isn't necessary yet and there are other upgrades I could go for but I suppose I was primarily wondering if the hierarchy chart is still a good guide?

RX 480 8GB would be a good upgrade.

Edit: scratch that you are better off waiting till Thursday to find out about the new VEGA GPU's.

Anyone know when OCUK take the payment for pre-orders? When you make the order or when it comes into stock and ships?

I have no idea to answer the question but I was looking at a monitor off them that was up for pre-order that was two months ago now and it is still not in stock.

    RX470/480 4Gb, then R9 Fury.

    Thanks lads.

Was looking at the R9 Fury alright and I saw you might be able to pick one up on ebay for about £250 (if you are lucky) so that might be the budget/ best value option.

Although with Vega coming soon-ish I might as well wait and see what that brings or even if it pushes down the RX480 with people trying to sell off those cards to upgrade.

So do ye still reckon that Tom's hierarchy chart is a good guide?

Just had a quick look at it there and while it seems alright I did notice the GTX750ti seems out of place so take it with a pinch of salt.

Hi lads, I bought a B Grade PG278Q from Overclockers just under 3 months ago and it now won't turn on. I emailed them as I'm still within the 3 month warranty for B Grade items but they told me that since it's past 30 days, I need to take it up with Asus. Is this true?

Under Irish law the seller is responsible as the contract is with them ...... what law applies here?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,307 ✭✭✭Xenoronin

Try Asus, chances are it's just the power brick that's gone and they should be able to send you out a new one. If that doesn't work, then you are well within your rights (to the best of my knowledge) to push overclockers on this further since you are within the warranty period.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,635 ✭✭✭Redfox25

Push OCUK on it at the same time in case Asus are slow to get back to you and make sure that OCUK log the call and give you a ticket number in case there is a delay and you slip outside the 90 days warranty period.

OCUK have a good rep for CS so they should look after you.
Fingers crossed you get this sorted soon.
