God is whoever and whatever you want him/her to be.

Maybe for you but not unfortunately for billions of followers of the main religions around the world who take their guidance from religious books such as the bible and the koran or religious leaders such as the pope.

Some people want to enjoy themselves and cause no harm. Some people are just plain evil.

It is just a very sad way for 2017 to start, but this is all too common and it is hard to see what can be done to stop this needless carnage.

No mention at all of it on RTÉ, I suppose they classify some lives as more newsworthy than others. RIP to all involved.

I find it bizarre that someone invokes one god to alleviate the pain suffered by those attacked in the name of another god.

Religion. The root of all evil.

Personally I think religion is not the root of all evil. People are evil.

    Pretty cold response.

You're so cool and edgy. I wish I was more like you.

    People are nice
It's groups of people that become easily led

BBC "After the shooting, the killer shouted the murder was in revenge for Russian involvement in the conflict in the Syrian city of Aleppo."

    No surprises there then.

Pity the shooter just didn't shoot himself in protest first.

Russia was probably bombing idiots like the shooter.

RTE is just sh!t at updating its site, would be the last place I'd ever check for breaking news.

Those pesky Asians at it again.
Or are we now allowed to say the followers of Muhammad did this.
As per intrustions from their most perfect man?
    Peace be upon you.

It's like a ****ing cancer as it spreads out. I would think Europe is in for a lot of carnage in 2017. Hope I'm wrong of course!

Just remember as we now doubt will be told.
This has nothing to do with Islam

Agence France-Presse is reporting comments from the interior minister, saying that the death toll has risen to 39, including 16 foreigners.

Come on Mammy Merkal.......... surely you can speed this up.

    Its not going to happen.

I'm actually surprised we've only heard of one event in Europe. I assumed there'd be more.

25,000 armed police on the streets of Istanbul tonight and it still happened. This is what we are dealing with now.

People were jumping into the cold waters of the Bosphorus to get away from the attacker.

In the last 16 months, over 700 people have died in Turkey from terrorist attacks.

The Balkans remains a cess pit of racial and religious conflict. Germany has always had a stupid fascination with the area; the rest of Europe needs to be guided away from Germany's leadership on the issue. Greece's economy has nearly broken Europe before now; the risk of contagion needs to be faced and quarantine is the only answer.

The attacker is an utter scumbag for making the start of 2017 already worse in how it begins in itself.

According to BBC News; there were 700 people in the nightclub at the time when the attack happened. Most of the people who fled the scene jumped into the water to escape injury or death.

A horrific start to the new year for all involved. RIP to all the victims who were killed or injured.

Horrible tragedy. Isn't it weird that no one really cares that much when it's in Turkey, but attacks in France and Germany garner much more shock and comment from us in Ireland and UK etc? I guess it's just because we don't see Turks as being much like us at all.
