Disgusting act. Do you happen to know the answer?

    Ooookay:confused:

I hadn't been aware I'd been appointed as Louise O'Neill's Garda liaison. She doesn't have to disclose anything she doesn't want to. I disagree with a lot of what she says, but she doesn't owe anyone full disclosure.

You threw in a jibe about vegetarians apropos of nothing. Presuming you dislike SJWs and therefore talk of safe spaces, yet you want to shut down speech you don't like.

Most people are actually ok you know.

Debate is fine, but some things are off limits. End of story.
Fúck me… It's bad enough - for this reader anyway - that we're going around importing this gender BS from America(with all the jargon, and often to the point of farce mid atlantic accents with it), but it seems we're also importing their oft times astounding dearth of a sense of irony. Fúck me. Welcome to the Now folks, the time of the [insert worldview here]echo chamber.

If you don't like a topic don't take part in a debate about it, but don't attempt to force your opinions or morals on others. End of story.

And what exactly are you doing with that post?

Telling someone not to try and suppress a debate if they are not happy with the subject matter. Instead, simply refrain from taking part if it offends their sensibilities. I thought it was pretty simple to follow myself.

One poster is trying to shut down a debate the other is saying don't engage with said debate. Two different things.

The hypocrisy meter is going off the chart here. Multiple times you've latched onto minor sections of posts and completely twisted the words of posters. My reading comprehension is working fine thanks, as is your high horse clearly.

I perfectly understood what was written, it's just simply hypocritical telling one poster to cease giving his opinion in that particular manner, tongue in cheek or otherwise.

Some seem to think the poster was offended, and they were forcing their moral sensibilities on others.. Bit of a leap. I agreed on their point that it shouldn't be debated, as that particular debate serves no purpose. It doesn't tick the boxes that others have stated as a reason for 'outrageous' topics being used to improve public speaking skills etc etc (one side is completely screwed in that debate and won't learn a thing).

Should I assume your delicate sensibilities were offended by my 'colourful' example of a debate on 'I should be able to rape whoever I like'? Interestingly you didn't answer (as far as I remember) if you thought there was any value to such a ridiculously one sided debate.

My own original point all along was, incest = wrong and clearly wrong, will always be wrong and a debate on it is utterly futile. The side debating it's pro's v con's has literally no argument to make. Equally the side arguing that it shouldn't be allowed isn't getting much out of it terms of debating because it's such an 'easy win'.

You have comepletely missed the point of what was said. again. and again. and again. If you dont think it should be debated then dont. just to be clear i am not stopping from you from debating it. If you do or not is entirely up to you. But you want to stop other people from debating it. and if that isnt forcing YOUR moral sensibilities on others i dont know what is.

Anything is up for debate. Even incest.

It's just the fact that people want to debate something as completely disgusting and so obviously wrong as incest that is the issue.

Whether thats some student lads looking for the shock value or are genuinely serious though, that's another thing.

Christ almighty, you're joking. Try answering a direct question.. for ONCE.. will you. Do you see any utility in a debate on 'i should rape whoever I want'? Who am I forcing my moral sensibilities on? You? You see nothing wrong with incest then I take it? REPEATEDLY, I've said it's an utter waste of time because it's obviously such a one sided debate. It has NOTHING to do my personal moral sensibilities. It's BLACK AND WHITE, and also happens to be illegal (and not in any way remotely comparable to other illegal things such cannabis etc, as some have compared)

Do you reckon college debating societies in Germany are having such on the benefits or lack thereof, of fascism?

I think you are going a bit hard there. Anything is up for debate if someone wants to debate it. A lot of rape has gone on and goes on in the world, so clearly many are in favour of it. They are entitled to their point of view and we are entitled to oppose it and punish it democratically by law. Whether even cultures which predominantly condemn it and punish it can nevertheless have significant minority elements of condoned rape, as contended by ONeill, is most certainly worthy of open discussion.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find any rapist (of sound mind), who genuinely believes what they are doing isn't wrong. And my point would be, there literally isn't a rational argument they could make to justify their point of view. Hence the futility, where instead they could focus their energy on a debate where they might actually develop some useful skills out of it.

I completely understand the point that everything is up for debate, but there are surely some common sense caveats meaning that's up to a point.

I'm genuinely asking(as before) what would the utility in such a debate on rape being legitimate? (In Ireland at least).

The two of them seem like a pain in the hole, with Courtney a bit ahead. She does some very things she criticises him for doing. What's this "Only a white man would speak to a woman in this way online" thing? Really? And I like John Cooper Clarke.

Is she Irish? Louise O Neill goes on with that white male line a lot too. Might make some sense in The States but sounds very silly coming out with stuff like that in an Irish context.

Ok, I am tired. Usually I would give these things a read, but not tonight. I am doubting I have missed out on anything.

You missed nothing. Very one sided. As in, not a solitary single one of yerone's posts was in that exchange, so we dont know anything about what she said. Only yermans responses.

Had a look at O Neill's recent Twitter posts and here's the original exchange. It goes on for quite a bit. Whatever tweet it was where she call's him a white male seems to have been deleted.
