Looking at a 2ltr diesel Insignia.
Any issues I should be looking for other than the usual?

I sure people are having good experiences but very high amount of issues with the ones we look after including complete engine main bearing failure and gearbox bearing failure

I was interested in buying one a few months ago but didn't. I spoke to 2 mechanics on the same day working in different garages. One said they are the greatest heap of sh!te that was ever made & listed loads of issues. The other said the were a fanatastic car, his garage had sold a few with no comebacks. Make what you want of that. I didn't buy anyway.

Wasn't there a revision made in 2013 which saw reliability vastly improved? If so that year and up are the ones to go for.

I would share the same opinion as above the first of the insignias are sh1te nice looking and some good power options but terrible reliability, a gearbox made out of wheatabix and poor resale value. A flood of them where offloaded here from the UK where they're a very popular company car so make sure all mileage checks are carried out.

There is a major problem with the M32 6 speed gearbox fitted to some of these models.
If it has that one don't buy.

    Yeah 130bhp 2ltr so I think thats the M32?

Feck, we were also looking at 508s, need something with enough room in the back for the kids, stipulation is not a Mondeo :)

I was looking at them a while back and surprisingly ended up with a Renault Laguna initials, 2l d, 150bhp....... Really nice spec car, very happy with it

Take a look at the 2009 to 2015 Skoda Superb, saloon/hatch is ugly all day but the estate is handsome. All variants are huge inside.

Yeah, I'd agree with this. The interior is huge, and the specs on them are wonderful. However my main issue with them was that the only ones I could find within my budget were 1.6 D, the choice of 2.0d was very very limited, and for me the smaller engine (whist perfect for cruising), just did not have enough "ummpphh" for me personally...

Plenty of 2.0 litre versions in the UK.

I sold a good number of insignias, and none gave problems. Had to do the DMF on two, but that's no different to any other diesel. Generally, the early ones (late 08 to mid 10) can have teething problems so go newer if you can.

Re gearbox, I bought one insignia with a noisy box, 09, Irish car, low miles. Cost 400 euro to rebuild box with new bearings. To put it in perspective, almost all VW/Audis that I have sold have needed the EGR valve replaced, costing 450-550 for the part alone, depending on model.

Actually looking at a very late 2012 model (regged in Dec I think)

Try to stretch to 132 models where stuff like SatNav came as standard from SC models and upwards. Facelifted model in SE spec would be my pick however

I think the facelift / Nav was early 2013 so there's a chance a very late 2012 might have the bits on.
