Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Christmas 1982 memories

I'm trying to remember what was on television back in Christmas of 1982 (my favourite year).

It was the Christmas where Renne and Renato were at number one in the music charts with "Save my Love", and "The Snowman" animation was first shown. We just had 6 TV stations (Channel 4 having only just started a few months earlier). It was the year after the big snow but I think the weather was kind of mild.

I remember there was a James bond movie on on Christmas day afternoon. But I'm not sure which one.

Was 1982 the year of the big snow??
My mam has a picture of her pretending to throw me out the door into it and i was sobbing haha! I was only 2 in fairness!
Pictures of my dad climbing over the front garden wall and the snow was up to his waist near enough!

Yeah I think 82 was the big snow, otherwise people in my family have been lying about the year they were born

1982 was the year of the big snow but that would have been closer to Christmas 1981.

It was just a really great year and the Christmas was just perfect - all the family together and loads of friends calling round. Midnight mass and The neighbours had a great party on new year's eve. Great presents too !

I was only a few months old during this christmas, having only been born in september. But I think it's fun looking back at old pictures and ads and stuff.

I *think* she might be referring to this post with the ads from a film shown on TV in 1984. It must have been aired a few days before Christmas because one of the ads is Maurice Pratt telling you that Quinnsworth will be getting stock of fresh fruit and veg in on Monday morning, the last shopping day before Christmas :D

It also has an ad asking people not to drink and drive but if you insist, no more than two drinks

It's a class video, I'd love if there was a 1982 version for OP here.

    Edit: it's from 22nd December 1984.

There's an advert in the 1982 Christmas RTE Guide (https://brandnewretro.ie/2013/12/16/...hristmas-1983/) that says "If you're driving... Just two (pints) will do!"
