No need to another Air Force one, the current one is operational and fine. Stop wasting money.

Well done to Trump for calling off the new Air Force One deal. No point wasting 4 billion dollars of tax payer money on a new 747-8

There's such a thing as end of life for vehicles, you know.

And after 25 years the current Air Force One is about to reach that.
Anyway, good to see his soundbites are popular with the usual suspects :pac:

No offence Jella, I think you are fantastic but I think the President knows better than anyone on this forum on what America needs.

President-elect and I doubt he knows that much, given he didn't even know about the White House staff. ;)

    Can you validate that statement?

A bit of research tells me that the current 747-200s were delivered in 1990, which makes them over 30 years old by the time they are planned to be replaced. Anyone in the aviation industry will tell you that modern jets have long lifespans, but eventually they need to be replaced. Plus, modern jets are far more fuel efficient.

The presidential jets are very different to commercial jets. They will have been heavily modified and hardened to suit the security needs of the President. Plus they probably don't fly as much as commercial jets and will have been exceptionally well maintained. But still, 30 years. And there is a long lead time between placing a jet order and receiving the plane. So decisions need to made now for delivery in several years time.

In fact, I'd love to hear what the avgeeks in Aviation & Aircraft think about this? :)

I don't know why they have that elect rubbish, the American people are looking towards Trump now, not Obama. No one cares what Obama thinks or has to say anymore. He should resign right now and let Trump in to get to work straight away. It is wasting peoples time.

Are we all going to accept €4 billion now be cause he tweeted it?

He has no credibility. Remember when he spent years tweeting about the president was a secret Kenyan and that he had the proof.

Just because he's president elect, doesn't mean he is any less of a liar.

You can get two 747-8 jets for $640 million. And Boeing are pulling this figure of 4 billion out of their ass. I'll bet Hillary was willing to waste money on these jets. Well done Mr President.

The price isn't actually that weird.

A standard 747-8 costs around 400m dollar, for the base model.

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2016/12/06/trump-attacks-boeings-deal-new-air-force-one/95033188/
The Air Force has requested over $3 Billion dollars and is expecting to complete the project in 2024. At $180,000 an hour to fly, the Air Force One is no joke. Part of the contract is to equip the aircraft with the latest communication technology, a full office and meeting area for the President, and a state of the art kitchen designed to serve over 100 people at one time.
Among the upgraded amenities on the plane, it is equipped with electronic countermeasures and flares to fend off heat-seeking missiles. The fuselage is being upgraded to resist nuclear blasts. When needed in urgent situations, the upgraded engines on the 747-8 can send the aircraft up to Mach .92 which is over 550 mph. The new range will be nearly 7,800 miles without being refueled, although it has the capability to be refueled mid-air. The new plane will be 786 square feet larger, will be able to fly 1,200 miles further, carry 20,000 pounds more, and carry 12,000 more gallons of fuel. A major reason to build a new fleet of planes is to not only ferry the President around the world, but to have the capacity to conduct a war from 30,000 feet if necessary.

Add to that a complete surgical area, a radar system,...

The 4bn number that's being touted is for using it for 4 years I believe.

Let's not even begin about the testing. I doubt many Boeing's have been tested to withstand EMPs, probably not many that have automated landing, be able to fire armaments etc? How about those engines?

How is the contract for it being structured? Is this fixed cost or cost + ? What are the variants and the payment structure for making deadlines?

Again Trump just throws a big number out there, says it's high and people just go 'Wow, that is indeed quite high, what a top lad'.

Yeah you can also get a Cesna for 180k, that doesn't mean anything.

edit: Isn't it Trump talking about 4bn ? I mean, it wouldn't be him pulling it out of his ass surely ? :pac:

Don't, you'll only upset the Trumpites with knowledge.

They have feeling and that's all they care about.

Do regular 747's come with EMP protection, missile defense systems, surgical suites, nuclear command & launch capabilities and all the rest?

The entire fcuking plane is a one-off custom build to spec. Of course it's going to be a lot more expensive than a regular 747.

You lot are ridiculous. Fcuk it though, let the orange groper fly around in a plane that isn't up to the standard of the job... shur after all, neither is he.

Everything is subject to change when you begin sentences without a plan as to how they'll end.

He hasn't said what he will do, just repeated that he's not legally bound to do anything.

He's suggested turning over the running of his businesses to Ivanka, whom he brought to a meeting with the Japanese Prime Minister. But I can't see the swamp drainer extraordinaire exercising his political clout to influence business.

She wasn't just there as window dressing, she was busy working on her own business interests in Japan!

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/ivanka-trump-japan-business-deal-donald-trump-shinzo-abe-prime-minister-a7457161.html
Ivanka Trump was reportedly closing a business deal with a Japanese clothing company – of which the country’s government is a large stake holder – as she sat in on a meeting between her father, President-elect Donald Trump, and Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. The New York Times says Ms Trump is finalising a licensing deal between her clothing brand and Sanei International. The company held an exclusive viewing of Ivanka Trump products as the 35-year-old listened in on the 17 November meeting.

If Trump is so concerned with saving tax-payer money why is he staying in New York when the daily cost to NYC for his security there is $500,000 per day?

So why don't the people who are shouting about the money he has saved, which he has yet to actually save, give out about the money he has already cost the tax payer? Such as the staying in new York or the secret service agents on his jet.

I mean I just can't figure it out.

    http://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/308990-boeing-says-it-is-under-170-million-contract-to-work-on-air-force-one
Boeing on Tuesday responded to President-elect Donald Trump's criticism over the cost of a new Air Force One plane, saying the contract is actually for $170 million.

Trump earlier Tuesday tweeted that the deal was for "more than $4 billion" as he called for the order to be cancelled.

"We are currently under contract for $170 million to help determine the capabilities of these complex military aircraft that serves the unique requirements of the President of the United States," Boeing said in a statement.

"We look forward to working with the US Air Force on subsequent phases of the program to deliver the best planes for the President at the best value for the American taxpayer."

How dare Boeing pull 4bn out of their ass.
    Oh wait.

Would be interesting if someone could look into whether his claim that he sold his Boeing shares in June is actually true.

At least we can all agree that he's a moron.

Which loses are you referring to? The ones who voted for him thinking he was less corrupt than Clinton? The ones who thought he was going to imprison his political opposition only to find out he was lying about that? The ones who thought he was going to build a wall? The ones who thought he was going to drain the swamp? The ones who favour small government and just saw him use his position to influence a state's finances and interfere with the free market. The ones who might not get jobs out because companies see the president influencing business and opt to invest in somewhere that looks less like a banana Republic.

You'd imagine they feel betrayed and used, but as is common in abusive relationships they're convinced that he loves them. They continue to compare him unfavourably to his beaten opponent at though it means anything anymore and fail to see through his lies.

If you're talking about the losers who said for the past two years that he was a liar and a fraud I'd imagine they're angry but not surprised by his ineptitude.

He is in NY Tower because the security arrangements would be even worse in Washington. Their is already a protest movement out there on the streets that want him removed from power. Leaving NY causes headaches for security and he's not exactly popular in DC. You know might have a dagger stuck in his back on the steps of Congress. Don't think it could not happen. President's have been assassinated for less.

Well actually many voters opted for Trump mainly because the disillusionment had long since set in. Trump carried on the message of Bernie & Obama that America needed change. It was the Democrats who were gritting the teeth and voting for a flawed candidate. The Trump voters knew exactly what they were getting themselves in for. Send a message to D.C. that was clear, sort out the economy and the politics not revert to same ole same ole. Once Obama was gone nobody would be backing a change in how gvt operates.

Here's hoping. I think Trumpleton would see himself as the sun in that scenario.

Maybe one of his pilots will become depressed over having to fly the Golden Cheeto around the globe in an outdated plane and plunge the thing into a mountain.
