Ian Guider doesn't have a voice for radio so I'd not give the gig to him. Nor Jonathan Healy. I thought they were getting rid of him .

Would agree on Guider...had terrible trouble with the "Th" peice and a mid atlantic twang that was soo annoying.

Would disagree strongly on Jon Healy ..I think he is very good ...would be far better than McInerney on the evening show.

Guider is now with the Business Post I think.

I'm finding Newstalk unlistenable ( if that's a word) to since the new schedule.
The exceptions are Pat Kenny, OTB, and Tom Dunne.
I've turned the dial to Today FM.
Sorry NT, I was a loyal listener but it's just all a bit annoying.

Don't know quite how you can include Dunne in that group. ?

Far to chilled and laid back for my taste and that south dublin drawl could be so irritating ...but...in fairness that's just me ...he has a good following.

This quote appeared on tech review last night, regarding the use of generic phone chargers.

"So aside from just giving you an electric shock and burning down your house, it could also destroy your phone battery which I would say is equally worrying."

    Drivel.

I used to listen to it when it aired first, but I am not listening all that much .....for some reason.

There is too much time given over to OTB IMO.That fella that was in for Sarah this evening, is even more duller.

Matt C is getting more of my attention now

Who is this wan they have on talking about movies, she sounds like a pantomime witch. Did Alan Hughes not have any work for her this year, or why is she in Newstalk?

I cannot get over how argumentative Sarah is with all her interviewees, you can really feel the aggression she's projecting on unsuspecting guests.
Chris is lost without Ivan to liven him up, he needs a strong personality to bounce off because he can't stand on his own two feet in that regard. I still like him though.
Williams in the morning is awful, just a terrible presenter who doesn't seem to have a clue about any topic.
Pat Kenny is a great, great radio presenter - whether you like him or not you can't deny it. He really gets the answers from his guests. I think he's absolutely awful on TV but he really works on radio.
Hook is Hook, I actually listened to his show today, the first time in ages I haven't jumped at the dial to change over. He's a gobsh1te, he knows it, everyone knows it. If you listen to him you know what to expect. Not my cup of tea but whatever.
I find Moncrieff a bit too fluffy, I wish he'd be more 'newsy' and have less of the wishy washy crap. But if it works then who am I to argue. He makes for harmless radio.
Ivan is missed, he played the fool for Chris very well. Someone like him would be nice instead of Sarah. At least tell her to chill out a bit, she's taking it far too seriously!
Sarah and Chris are close in age and opinions; if that combo grabs more listeners in their age group, 25-40, then that would be great for the station.

Sean Moncrieff is a show full of the sort of whimsy which is needed between 2 and 4, IMO. He interacts well with guests of different natures and hues of opinion, is excellent at extemporising and has a decent bull**** detector. It is rare that I would turn him off and often that I would regret not listening to him every day.

Possibly, but she handed TobÍns hoop to him ,in flitters, and well cooked.

44 Parnell Sq. took a fair hammering there.

Not really, she just talks over her guests, it's very annoying. I feel like she tries to irritate her guests into coughing up a nice juice sound bite

That she handed Tobin his hoop, as you put it. She just talked at him, gradually getting louder and more annoying hoping her voice would eventually melt his brain

Not the way I heard it JJ, Toibín got his hoop blanched and fried.

In fairness there was no way he could defend Mr Adams, but nice to see the Shinners having to play on the 'concrete' instead of firing from the safety of the hedges and ditches.

    Metaphorically speaking, of course.

Oh my God, Newstalk ... Will ye get over it. Britain are leaving Europe and Trump is the new President... None of ye're baulking and hand wringing and saying that the voters were "uneducated" will change that.

The woman that comes in to do the TV review is infuriatingly bad. Annoying voice, full of spoilers and can never articulate her point. She's just god awful for radio.

Thast all she does. She badgers and badgers, cuts off, interrupts, shouts down and talks over any guest she has a differing opinion to.

We get it toots, you are a woman in a mans industry and you are trying to make a name for yourself. Its adorable :pac:

It was an awful interview. The female Alan Partridge.

They have no podcasts up on itunes - I sent them a number of tweets on this but I haven't got any response.

    The programme is pretty weak.

    George Hook was far superior.

I wish Chris Donoghue would just ONCE grow a pair of b*lls and not agree with whatever the latest politically correct nonsense they have on the show.. Or once stand up for the young men in the country. The presenters in Newstalk.. And particularly the young male presenters .. do nothing to speak up for young men when they are being called rapists or being ridiculed in the media.

And today, "Joe what do you think about the new quotas for sporting bodies"... "Oh I think it's a great thing, Chris, just like the way that you think it's great, cos we're all petrified of airing a controversial opinion"... . Pathetic the lot of them. Give me George Hook over the lot of the cowards.

It really is shocking. How is Sarah McInerney on the radio? She needs elecution lessons. She can't even say her own name?? "Today on Newstalk Drive with me, Sarah McInmumble"

Pat Kenny had opposite view to the one on Drive. I actually wonder are only presenters that mirror your own opinions acceptable to some. What's wrong with different views being expressed. Oh and I quite like Sarah. I miss Yates but I think they could do worse than hiring her.

Completely agree. As the Mother of 2 teen boys, I abhor the way men are discriminated against constantly in the media. When I lived in the US about 10 years ago a friend remarked how the white heterosexual male was going to be the most oppressed and discriminated against in the years to come...how right she was.

It's not even that I want them all to agree with me. I disagree with Hook a lot of the time, but at least I know it's his honest view and he's not conditioned by being terrified of offending people. It's actually interesting that you should make that point about Pat, because it seems like the only people who are prepared to make any sort of controversial (/honest) statement all have their pensions sorted.. (i.e. and have nothing to lose).

It's just the same predictable opinions on Newstalk, and the same stories pushed by Newstalk that suits their agenda. I swear, if people thought that "group think" was dead because of what happened during the property boom, then they are hugely mistaken. It's worse than ever. Can you imagine what it's gonna be like when Hook retires?

Nothing, of course, it is the essence of democracy.

The posters on here who lose it when someone expresses an opposing view are unable to argue their point. And possibly they don't even want to, as they are committed populists.

As such they believe they speak for the people, who by neccessity are people like themselves. And anyone who does not believe as they do is automatically wrong, for whatever spurious reason they can come up with, even though they need no reason at all....

as they believe they are fountains of the truth.

I agree I didn't mind her too much the first few weeks but bloody hell she is getting unbelievably annoying. Fake quirky nothing worse. And that stupid laugh grrrrr

Yes it's utter drivel. While Ivan regularly annoyed me on breakfast show I always enjoyed him and now that Chris is without a strong co presenter he really is quite boring.
Sarah, however, takes the biscuit. She is awful. She's rude, unprofessional and completely out of her depth. I strongly dislike her, I don't normally have this reaction but I can't bear her. Have changed to Matt Cooper.

Neither of them have any charisma or personality whatsoever. I'm done with drive time radio really. Matt Cooper's show is a commercial in disguise. It's not a news review show just a series of paid for slots with someone advertising something or other..

Not bothered by McInerney but Chris Donoghue is as lightweight as they come. He has learned nothing after quite a few years in broadcasting.
He's either thick or lazy, maybe both. I wouldn't have him on hospital radio.
