And the kids have no interest in the wireless these days.

Doubt it - you could imagine the howls of indignation if the kid of a former chair of RTE got a gig there and was paid more than a penny.

I think he's far to PR-savvy to go down that route.

    Maybe something on TV3?

Is Anton not already presenting the 7 o'clock show (that's now the 6 o'clock show after the soaps came back) on TV3?

I never got the hear too much of him 9-12 but enjoyed it anytime I did. We wait with interest for the big Today FM plans in 2017.

    This is already complete muck

Lasted about 10 minutes and switched off.

I never used to mind Alison but don't think she's suited to this show. Today FM now has nothing I want to listen to so that's it for me with this station I'm afraid.

I think so, but I was wondering if there might be more scope for a show / chat show based around him - "Ladies and gentlemen......live from an aircraft fuselage in Sligo.....it's the Anton Savage Show...." - that sorta stuff :D

Didn't get the opportunity very often to tune into Anton's show, but always liked him. I liked when he filled in for any of the others, in the past, (especially for Matt Cooper) and I enjoyed the programme he used to do on a Sunday.

He also filled in for Mark Cagney on TV3, on their morning programme, and any time I happened to see it, I was always struck by how easy and professional his style is, no matter what the topic. Interested in everything, and well able for a bit of slagging too from the co-presenters.

Big loss to Today FM, in my opinion.

Anton is a big loss but the show was way too focussed on female issues. I'd have no problem with that usually but there was far, far too much - probably down to the fact that all the producers on the show seem to be female.

Talking about dating shows, Don't tell the Bride, Kardashians, sob stories etc, all that crap, - constantly.

Anton was very professional in approaching what was probably forced on him by the producers but unfortunately he kept losing listeners due to the mundane topics they'd create for him every day. Now and then - there'd be a gem of a story/topic - but not enough sadly.

Interesting to see who'll take over. Once it's not Paula MacSweeney. Nadine O'Regan is good but she probably wouldn't want a show like that to take over.

What's with the 2 national music stations wanting to revamp to 'younger' listeners. What's wrong with producing radio for people in their 30's and 40's.

I'm scanning the radio at the moment and Irish radio is in a bad way

I wonder who have they lined up for 2017? Perhaps the audience figures for that time of day were artificially high because of popularity of Ray D'Arcy. Whatever it is about him, he seems to have a devoted fan base. Whoever it is they bring in instead would have to be a heavy hitter. Please don't let it be Hector.

At the risk of making myself sound really old (I'm 31), I first started listening to Today FM in college, back when the internet was still mostly dial-up and smartphones weren't a thing. So in our house share in the evenings, if we weren't all sitting around watching telly together, we'd have the likes of The Blast on in the background. Most of us still switch over to Today FM at some point in the day all these years later.

Now that there's the option of Spotify, an infinite number of podcasts, and the option to listen to radio from any corner of the globe wherever you are, surely it's easier to keep the audience you have happy than to chase after a new one?

I made the same point a few pages back. I'm in that age bracket and of the generation that still listens to the wireless. There's next to nothing for me to listen to on the radio during the daytime. Sure, there's Spotify and Tune In radio but that's beside the point.

I have to say, I'd lost interest in the show over the last couple of months to the point where I ended listening to Pat Kenny instead. A problem for me was that there was a fair few interviews that were being repeated on Savage and Moncrieff and I preferred Moncrieff doing them. The rest of the line up beside Matt Cooper is terrible as well. Savage was alright but he wasn't strong enough for me to turn the dial over to Today FM which has become turgid over the last couple of years.

If they aim for the kids market I think they are doomed...2FM is only still going because of the licence fee.
I have the radio on here at work and am edging closer to silence....

I'm 37 and listen to tell radio quite a lot. As a medium I think it's great. But I work outside so only have little battery radio, if I was to listen to tune in radio or other Internet based it would kill my data usage.

Awkward for Alison having to read that statement out.

Ian Dempsey seemed annoyed and upset that Anton is gone, his comment "I hope today FM find whatever it is they are looking for" seemed a bit of a dig at the station. .

Is that a clue? I think Bono will be the new host.

also Anton to get the Top Gear gig.

I put on Galway bay FM when alison came on ... Keith Finnegan is a million times better and that says a LOT!

A statement from today fm referencing a drop in listenership for his leaving and big changes for the station next year.

Harsh, I really like Alison Curtis - right back to her days of hosting the Last Splash. She has excellent taste in music and is always cheery.

Drove to work with silence rather than listen to Alison Curtis. Her voice is like nails on a blackboard to my ears.

I think younger audiences might get higher advertising revenue as perceived more disposable income

Yeah, they're the ones that get to spend all their parents money…

The way, at times, she harks on about kids and everything about them reminds me of Ray Darcy after he became one of THEM people.

She sounds really thinny - moved the dial to newstalk.

So what do you do now.I'm 50 so Today FM don't want me as a listener even after all the years with it as the number 1 station on my car radio and on my computer in work
I feel as if I'm too young for Radio 1 and too old for 2FM
I only listen to newstalk in the afternoon after Dermot and Dave on Today FM
So I've switched to Q102 to give it a go in the morning slot because I hate Allison's voice it just wrecks my head

I'm going to be that annoying person but it's not female issues. It's what the mainstream media *think* women want to listen to. Loads of women have no interest in kardashians etc, and yes while I like make-up, fashion etc, I don't like hearing about it on the radio where I can't actually see anything. And Jesus knows I hear enough about babies and weddings in real life.
Less of the generalisations please ;)

I think Alison is doing OK. She is better than anyone else who previously stood in for Anton.
