I don't get the Damien Dempsey thing at all, he sounds like a drunk singing at a house party!! This Aunt Jenny song sounds like Mario Rosenstock singing in character as Roy Keane.

He's different, that's why people like him, including myself. I love his voice and singing style. There's far too many bland, samey sounding bands and singers in the World. The more Damien Dempsey's out there the better as far as I'm concerned.

What is it with TodayFMs love in with Damian?? He is always rolled out around Chrimbo
Ray used to love him also...but I don't think that he has had him on the state broadcaster any amount of time as much as he had on TodayFM.

Hope thats the end of Dempsey until next Christmas!

Damo Dempsey = instant channel changer. He sounds like Kenny Egan found a guitar in a hotel residents bar. Awful tripe.
I'm glad it's not just me.

Eh... Anton has quit Today FM. Can't link cause on phone but apparently it's over rows with Management.

Please don't let delamare get that gig. Savage is a brilliant broadcaster and will be missed. Today Fm need to get a big name now.

Wow. I can't help but wonder though did it suit him to jump? Even though, in my opinion, it was a better show than Ray D'Arcy's, he hasn't been able to halt the slide in listenership numbers. Unlike other presenters he has other irons in the fire so it's not as if he needs this gig. It is a shame though. I enjoyed his show.

News breaking Anton Savage has left Today FM.
Would he not bend for the redacted one?

    Statement:
22 months ago, I set out working with a brilliant bunch of people to create a magazine show we could be proud of between 9 and 12 on Today FM. We were told the objective was to create a great show and retain 65% or more of the previous audience.

The task of doing that was brilliant. Fun, challenging collegiate.

The team on the Anton Savage Show could not have worked harder or been more creative or dedicated, and it was through their hard work that we were awarded our PPI award for magazine show of the year this year…

Over the last year it became clear that my objectives for the show and the new management’s objectives for the show diverged greatly. We disagreed on a move to set music quotas, we disagreed on significant changes to the playlist, we disagreed on topics for discussion, on format, on choice of contributors and we disagreed on the choice of certain guests.

It led to a situation where we have parted ways.

I am hugely disappointed not to be continuing to work with the fabulous team on the show, I am hugely disappointed not to be continuing to work with the other show teams who could not have been more supportive and helpful, and I am particularly disappointed not to be able to continue the relationship we had developed with the people who wrote to us each week, who told us their problems, their hopes, their funny stories, who texted each day and who listened in homes, offices, cars and trucks around the country. I’d have loved to be allowed to tell them goodbye.

I wish my team and all the people in the station the best.

He'll be a huge loss. He was very entertaining and extremely quick witted.

Very sad news. I really like his show. Oh god we will probably get bloody Hectorrrrrrrrr now.

More like Neil Delamare I'd say...

I liked Anton and was glad he got the role initially but always felt he wouldn't stay there long.

I could see him heading over to England.

Sad to hear this. I listen in everyday at some point and found him to be an entertaining, witty and intelligent host. He's a cut above the usual presenter and a really great interviwer..well researched and interested in his guests and able to take the interview off on conversational tangents..the polar opposite of the show's previous incumbent. I'll miss him

Sorry guys - it's my fault.

Today I was late for work and I have never heard his show and I switched onto Today FM and listened to it. I normally listen to Newstalk but Pat Kenny comes on at 9 so I switched sides.....Apologies but in a way it was Kenny's fault really!

Not surprised really. Don't get to listen to the show anymore due to work but I happened to be in the car today and caught a bit of the show and he seemed to be dialing it in. He's more suited to the serious stuff like Matt Cooper's show. He just didn't have the warmth or the everyman appeal for a fluffy daytime show imo.

Really disappointed to hear this. I've been tuning in most days and found Anton to be a very charismatic and engaging presenter. It's Today FM's loss that they haven't been able to support him in his objectives for the show.
Hopefully another station will pick him up. As a listener, I'll be tuning in to wherever he is headed.

Actually devastated, love Anton and his show. Dread to think the drivel that will replace him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,888 ✭✭✭Patser

Today FM just mentioned it right at the end of their 4.30 news by saying his contract is not being extended.

Makes it sound less like he quit, and more like it was their decision.

    All about spin I suppose

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 941 ✭✭✭Typer Monkey

Today fm headlines just now phrased it as 'Today FM decide not to renew Anton Savage's contract'. Bit bitchy I think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 23,248 ✭✭✭✭2smiggy

usually listen to his show everyday. love his enthusiasm and he is always well researched when talking to guests. God only knows who they will put in his place

I enjoyed the show after tuning back in after D'Arcy left. Sad to hear he's gone, it'll be hard to replace him for interviews IMO.

    Here's Today FM statement

Ah yeah, not renewing his contract for next year, coincidentally just after he's announced he's quit.

Always felt he'd get bored in this magazine style show. He has brains to burn and is more suited to a current affairs style programme like The Last Word. This is a huge blow for Today Fm, he was legions ahead of any of his stand ins and I feel his departure was precipitated by Today Fm looking to dumb things down too much. I do think he could have brought more of himself into the show, as he had a clinical efficiency / coldness which I think cause some listeners to switch off. Either way I'd say he'll pop up elsewhere. Today Fm have a big problem now.
