They had the launch of his new team Eagles MMA in Moscow the other day and there were thousands at it chanting his name.

RT had a video on their sports section with him being mobbed by hundreds of people in a shopping centre.

    He's very popular.

Talking to a few of my eastern european team mates they reckon a loss and he becomes Dagestani again not russian lol same way Murray is British in the tennis when hes winning and Scottish when hes losing.

also important to note that most russians despise dagestanis and a lot of the population won't support someone from there...also think fedor coming back is going to hurt his drawing power big time

The Dagestan aspect doesn't matter. As long as he smiles in meetings with Russian leaders and has a Russian flag beside his name, he'll be pushed as Russian.

Hes been Russian to get the belt the last few years only injuries have slowed him down.

Fairly normal for fighters with records like that to have fought poor opposition, in fact, pretty much every fighter, boxing and mma who is on the way up fight journeymen and bums to boost the confidence, give them experience while ensuring they continue on the upward trajectory.

The fact is he is unbeaten in MMA, 8 from 8 in the UFC, he has dominated anyone put in front of him, which is all you can do and he is good value for a title shot. Did you complain when McGregor got the title shot off the back of luminaries such as Siver?

Ferguson is on a great run, also fully deserving of a shot, the best thing to do in the 55 division is have them fight, winner obviously gets the next shot. With McGregor taking the time off it seems the only reasonable thing to do, if he is wanting to keep that 45 belt that has to be the next fight anyway so it is going to be a long time before he is defending the 55 belt.
I thought Gleison Tibau beat him in their match to be honest. The rest he beat comfortably though.

Apparently they want to strip him. Better bring a fooking army.

Or they can be like 'hey that's our belt, cheers mate'.

Nobody to blame but himself. Interesting to see how it all plays out, though.

    An interim interim?

No. Plan is to strip McGregor. Aldo becomes champion and Holloway/Pettis is for the interim strap.

Nothing is confirmed here. According to Helwani that's what they want to do. Obviously panicking over the DC pullout...

Mental that because DC gets injured McGregor is probably gonna get stripped, albeit it was gonna happen anyway. If Holloway beats Pettis he'll have wins over both the FW Champion and Interim FW Champion.

We stripping DC of his belt too? hasn't defended it in over a year has had 1 exhibition fight inbetween v Silva at 200 after the jones debacle and has pulled out twice, Rumble should get an interim fight if they find an opponent.

The Jones thing wasn't his fault, which is why he's safe.

There's a difference between not being able to defend and choosing not to defend.

Getting an injury is hardly choosing not to defend.

This is a bit of a joke really, fair enough stripping Conor but why the hell is Holoway v Petis for an interim belt? Makes no sense.

Ufc just make title fights out of nothing now?

Conor's the one choosing not to defend...

Why not just make it a No 1 contender fight? the belt on the line is probably is there to enhance ppv buys or something joke of a situation.

I don't know how you can't see that the streak Tony is on in the last 2 years is why people think he deserves it over Khabib who has been largely inactive in that time, while on a similar streak. The two can be linked, they are all factors here. Khabib's wins from 2012 and 2013 aren't the same as Tony's wins from last year and this year.
Not sure if you are intentionally strawmanning ir just not getting my point. Not trying to be obtuse at all.
I completely agree that Tony has a claim to the shot by virtue of the fact that he's been on a tear. I'd still think that if he was on a 7 or 8 fight streak with similar high level wins. I just think that once we're looking st 6+ fight steaks. Individual high calibre wins are more important than the total number.

How am I strawmanning? All I was saying is that yes, Tony and Khabib are on similar streaks, But if I was choosing one to give the title shot too I'd pick Tony as he wins are more relevant because they were over the last 2 years rather then 2012 and 2013 when Khabib got the majority of his. I don't know why you have such a big problem with this as I think it's a pretty relevant point. It doesn't matter anyway as it looks they're going to fight it out.

This has been discussed to the death here at this stage, you fail to see my point so I don't see what good is going to come from us discussing it any further.

I don't have a problem with that. I have no problem with giving o nod to Tony. Which was why I said strawmanning btw.

After 205, I said that people were forgetting about El Cucey way too quickly.

    Agreed.
"Make them fight" solves most situations in MMA imo.

To be fair to the UFC, he's had three fights outside that weight and has given no indication that he's likely to defend.

He's made history and held the two concurrently, but how long can you hold and not defend?

Interesting to see what happens next.
