Cheers, you must be sick of answering the same questions over and over :D

That Anker speaker looks great. Again, cheap enough that I wouldn't feel bad about getting something more expensive later on and using that speaker somewhere else.

Just a question on the speaker for the Echo

I will be using this in an open room for listening to the radio & Spotify. What is the volume like ? I was thinking of getting an Anker Bluetooth speaker to compliment it but for everyday use is the internal speaker ok?

Also getting the dot but that s going to be used as bedside radio also so what s the speaker like on this?

You cannot connect an external speaker to the echo, you can to the echo dot.

Oh so you cannot connect any Bluetooth speaker to the Echo? Must have mis read it somewhere that you can so its the Echo speaker and nothing else

Was impressed by the speaker on the Dot -- have them throughout the house, and they're fine as a bedside radio, for podcasts etc.

There is a hardware hack if you go looking for it.

The Echo can easily fill a room on it's own. I've it in a large living room with kitchen and it easily fills the room. I'd rarely increase it to over 7 (of 11!) due to it be too loud and annoying the neighbours.

Ah man you should get soundproofing in... usually have mine up to 11 ... neighbours blissfully unaware ;)

I think I'm deaf now though

I don't have premium on spotify. Is this needed to use it with the echo? I have no lights or gadgets to control so is worth getting the echo just for a bit of craic with the family or can you do lots of other stuff on it, if so what? Thanks

There is a FAQ thread you might want to read. For music you need premium spotify or amazon music. You have full access to TuneIn radio. There are 'skills' you can get to enhance your experience.

If the dot is reduced to 40 tomorrow, then I think it could still be worth it for a bit of craic. It will still play radio stations from all around the world via tunein radio and you can also use it as a Bluetooth speaker.

150 for the full size echo might not be worth it without spotify or similar.

Full size Echo will probably be 110 tomorrow... judging by the trend on the US site.

Just discovered another cool thing you can do with the Echo Dot thanks to a new bluetooth shower speaker I picked up in the Amazon Warehouse sale for £8:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/VicTsing-Waterproof-Bluetooth-Rechargeable-smartphone/dp/B00Z6PDKS8/

It has next/prev track buttons on the speaker itself and I was able to jump between Spotify tracks using the speaker in the shower, without having to be within earshot of the Dot. Excellent!

Perhaps this is a Bluetooth 4.0 thing as I haven't seen it on any other speakers (I think the UE Boom 2 allows this too by tapping the top of the speaker although not possible to jump backward?)

Now all they need to do is get the Echo Dot responding to voice commands through the mic on the speaker.. should be possible in theory.

Not to a ROI address, but can use a forwarding service.

Parcel Motel, AddressPal & Parcel Wizard are the three most common.

This. My Dot is going to be the gateway drug to increased expenditure in IoT gadgets in the foreseeable future... I think I may go down the Hive route as the one router connected hub will serve thermostat, lights, locks, plugs etc.

Does anyone have the remote for the Echo? I guess since it uses Bluetooth its range will be very limited?

    Hi All

3 quick questions hopefully someone can help with please:

    1. Do you need to buy the remote as well?
    2. How well does it work in Ireland, I know that there is reduced functionality
versus what is available in the US and UK
    3. What services do I need to subscribe to , in order to use it?

Sorry for basic ques, I would like to buy for someone as a gift

    Thanks
