Still not able to run, I have attempted it on a few occasions, completed 5k on grass and that was it....have been to physio/chiropractor and he thinks the knee joint is ok, not really sure what's wrong but says I am not as strong on my left side and it's my left knee that is in bother. I've been doing the exercises he gave me but no better, back to him on Wednesday. :(:( Very pissed off :(

That sucks. Maybe a second opinion would be worth thinking about??

I got out for 4 easy miles this evening , no complaint from my back during the run , I had forgotten how enjoyable running in the cold is once you get going. Was like an onion going out tonight will drop a layer next time.

Love running in the cold too. Was reading today about project sub 2 trying to break 2 hours for the marathon and they reckon one essential element of achieving it will be running it in quite low temperatures. It was really fascinating stuff .... For a research nerd like me anyway!

    Evening all,

Thought I'd just have a quick check in but shur ended up with 3 pages to catch up on!!!! Sorry to hear some of ye are still experiencing niggles. It is worrisome when something doesn't feel right. I feel asleep on the couch Friday evening and was woken by a pain in my hip. I've been running fine but there are the odd niggles in my knees and hips...minute niggles but doesn't stop the worry.

I took 10 days off after Dublin then a slow 4 miler. Last week was 4.5 miles Tuesday, 4 miles Thursday and 6.5 miles yesterday. Only intended to do 5 yesterday but felt good so pushed to the next roundabout on the link road and felt good after it. I was silently thinking of doing the half marathon here in Waterford on Dec 3rd but I just thought after waking with the hip pain plus the niggles, I just might not be ready and decided to put it on ice and just concentrate on keeping running 3 times a week until after Xmas.

Limerick is the aim for the end of April and then the half here in Waterford at the end of June with Dublin in the distance of all is going well. I realised today that training for Limerick will be very different to training for Dublin given the time of year...God we really were spoiled this year weather wise...if anything it was too hot as i actually got sun-burnt on a few occasions but I reckon winter training will be very different.

Bungy I actually feel a bit thick as I'm not really sure what questions to ask!!!! Look forward to your answers to any that are asked tho and applying them to my future training.

Sorry to hear that. I used to have something like that gave me some exercises to strenghten the leg. I will try to find them and send. Hope you get better soon.

Looking forward to getting back to the aul running again. Haven't run more than 7k in a month, that's insane. Foot is pretty much healed up by now thank god. I remember there was a group park run or something in the lead up to the marathon that I couldn't attend, would anything like that be happening in the future?

@Fitza really sorry to see that recovery is taking longer than expected. I hope it gets sorted for you soon. Take care.

Just over 5k done. Chilly out there tonight. Forgot my belt - put my car zapper under my hat.

Got just over 5k in myself again tonight, I though it was milder than last night, less wind anyway. Beautiful clear night , ideal for stargazing, I did a bit of that too, it's good for the head.

Felt a bit guilty after reading your posts tonight so got my a**e off the coach at 9.15 and headed out for about 3 miles. So glad I did, felt great after it, was a lovely fresh night, forgot my watch too but glad I did, it felt great to be just running and not worrying about pace or distance!

No niggly issues thankfully! Plan for the next two weeks is to go out about 4 days a week for shortish runs at a nice easy pace to get myself back into the swing of things.

Apologies for the late response, my goals could obviously change in the coming months but these are my thoughts right now.

a : What are your next goals?

I am hoping to run the Jingle Bells 5K and will try for a sub 21 5K, truthfully, I will be happy with somewhere between 21 and 22 minutes. My PB just before Marathon training was 22m45s.

b: What type of training to you intends to do over the winter?

Between now and Jingle Bells, just some nice handy short distances, no speed work or anything like that. I am going to start The James Dunne 30 day strength and conditioning course too as I really need to improve on this side of things!

c: Where do you hope to see yourself to be in 12 months with your running?

I hope to run the Limerick Marathon at the end of April and to just continue and improve on consistency and see where that takes me. Hopefully that will benefit my 5K and 10K times. If all goes well, I will start thinking about training for Ultras at the end of next year but lets see how 2017 goes first.

Sorry I just realised I didn't answer these!

a : What are your next goals

Main goal is sub 4 marathon next year. Planning on doing 2 but mainly for the experience and miles on the legs. Some half's along the way.

b: What type of training to you intends to do over the winter?

Going to keep running 4 days a week - one lsr, and three shorter ones . One of those will be faster paced, one with some hills, other just easy. Also going to be more consistent with strength training. Been lucky with zero injuries so want to try keep that way. Is 20-30 miles per week OK for maintenance?? Obviously going to alternate the length of lsr over the weeks

Bc: Where do you hope to see yourself to be in 12 months with your running?

Running more marathons, getting below four and learning more about how to run effectively. It really kind of fascinating how it all works ....or maybe I need to get out more!

Most of my questions have been asked already so looking forward to reading them. Intervals are something I'm looking to do more of, so really want to know how to approach that

    Thanks

Don't forget, tomorrow is the deadline for registering IF you want your race number posted out to you. You can still register online up to 30/11 but will have to collect your number from Donore Harriers clubhouse in Chapelizod.

Thanks Bungy Girl.. does anyone have any details about the kids race? Is it the same 5k but just no chip timing?

That's it. Same race. Pretty sure they all get a goody bag and a medal but don't hold me to that !

So if I'm doing a parkrun this Saturday should I go for it or save my PB attempt until Jingle Bells?
I also can't hang around after JB I'm afraid. I have to get back home pretty sharpish.

Who was looking for a replacement DCM cap?
They've released a batch for sale for 5 - along with all the leftover DCM merchandise - give the number at the bottom of the page a call as the online sale link isn't working http://bit.ly/2faxdt9

Save your legs would be my advice! JB is a fast course (although maybe not if there's gale force winds like last year ) so shoud be good for a PB attempt. So personally I would wait, but if you're feeling good and conditions this Saturday are conducive to a PB you could, of course, go for it and just treat JB as a training run (maybe even pace someone else to a PB if you've got yours in the bag). Up to you. What's the target either way ?

Well nothing to report on the running front from me! Mrsscotindublin has been away the last two weeks so not had much of an opportunity to get out with work and organising things at home.

Plan is to get back out Saturday; get down to Donore on Wednesday to suss out the set up there and do the Jingle Bells Saturday week.

Would definitely recommend Berlin for a foreign marathon....dont think there is a single hill in the city; I think it is pretty hard to get into though!

Didn't have the stones to chance the pavements this evening. Looking forward to getting an 8 miler done on Saturday morning. Will also hit the gym and sauna on Sunday.

Thanks, I think I might just see how Saturday goes then and take it from there.
Pre-marathon PB was 23:28. I ran 23:18 last Saturday on a solo run so I'm hoping in a race to get under 23 and somewhere close to 22 minutes. I'd lack the confidence to go out for a faster time than that.

Had another physio appointment yesterday (this was only my second one, my previous post might have indicated I had been going a while and getting no results)....anyway....he said I was doing one of the exercises incorrectly so fixed that, he worked a bit more on the muscle running down beside the shin bone and just above my knee, he also suggested I try a run like I was running on the spot, more action to the front (like the Brownlee brothers he said) as opposed to my more kick back run. I went home last night and did my exercises, did them today and went for a 5k run this evening....and....I ran it all pain free :):) It took a fair bit of concentration to run like I was running on the spot but moving forward. My OH bought me a magnet strap for my knee...aaaahhh :) and I wore that too, so I don't know if it was a combination of both but whatever, I was able to run. I just hope it continues now. :):)

Then again, yr.no shows perfect weather at the moment for JB with no wind. I think I'll take it steady this week and bank on next week.

That's great news! I had to YouTube the brown Lees running style to see what they meant. You'll be doing Iron Man next! Delighted for you!

Good news, A! Onwards and upwards. Keep doing those exercises and focus on your form.
